Work is interfering with my reading time this week!
Make a great day everyone - 🙂
So, I‘ve been pretty abysmal at #WinterGames so far, and a horrible #SnowflakeSquad teammate. But I have been reading, and have finished 5 books so far this month (which is pretty good for me).
I‘m also watching Big Brother Reindeer Games (which is *technically* based on 1984).
So, as of now, I‘m up to a pathetic 88 points, but now that I‘m off work, I‘ll try to be better about contributing.
4-9-23: My 38th finished book of 2023! I went into this expecting scary or at least spooky because I watched the Netflix show first. It was neither of this things. Ilonka and her friends are living in a hospice for sick teens. They are all going to die so to pass the time they meet at midnight to tell stories. They hope that once one has died that person can reach out to give a sign that it isn‘t over when you go. Sad yet somehow comforting.
Book 67📚 2.6⭐️
I unintentionally saw the show first so I knew what I was getting into with this one. But honestly, I preferred the show, there was a bit more spook too it - which I kind of expected from a Pike novel?💁🏻♀️
But it was also quite moving and heartbreaking💔
Going through things at my father's house, while both physically and emotionally exhausting, has also turned up some childhood gems. I thought the last of my old Christopher Pike books had been destroyed in a basement flood incident, but it turns out they were stored up high! I'm so tickled to revisit this old favorite, among others.
#reread #childhoodfavorite
Read entirely over one sleepless night, I didn‘t enjoy this one. I wanted YA horror and this was more Paulo Coelho / meaning of life. No horror at all.
Meh. I read it for book club and I'm not sure my rating is fair, dying kids and existentialism just isn't my thing.
So here‘s the thing, I loved Pike as a kid,I have such great memories of some of his books. This isn‘t one of them. I have vague memories, but this one didn‘t make the impression on me that Whisper of Death, Chain Letter or Remember Me did. With that said it didn‘t blow me away now, which does kind of make sense.
Diving back into my childhood.
I've been busy, digging up my copies of Christopher Pike books and ordering used copies of what I don't have (although hopefully more of his books will get republished, I know a few have been released as ebooks because of the show). So in 2023 I'm hosting a #Pikeathon Reading Challenge. I'll host discussions as I read (I'm probably not going to read the Spooksville books, but I might), and do random giveaways to participants who tag me ⬇
Finished up my watch of The Midnight Club and really enjoyed it! I read the book when I was a kid so I don‘t really remember much, however I found it not only pretty spooky but surprisingly touching. Mike Flanagan does it again! Also watched 2 more episodes of Ghosts, which I love! +111 points for #teamslaughter #scarathlon2022
First I will say that I really liked this book. I loved the premise, and the stories told by characters kept me turning the pages. And now I rant: I do not understand the marketing of this book. The only thing scary about it is facing one‘s own mortality. It is not horror, or thriller, so if you want to read a spooky book, or revisit Pike‘s 90s thrillers, this one is not it. Lastly, I‘m pretty bothered by the image on the cover (cont. 🔽)
My nephew and I binged The Midnight Club on Netflix this weekend and it was so good! 10/10 Highly recommend!! Perfect spooky (but not scary) show! +51pts #TeamMonsterMash #Scarathlon2022
I finished this series. It was very good. It is a YA horror show (so not extremely gory) however it has some very serious topics as it is about a group of teens in hospice. So know that going in.
7! Episodes yesterday.

A decent weekend of reading! I‘m enjoying these reads & I think I might actually finish my TBR this month!

I could get a few more points by posting these separately but that‘s a lot. What I‘ve watched for Week 1 #TeamMonsterMash
I‘ll probably finish up a few more episodes of the tagged show tonight too.
Movies:
Interview with a Vampire-Team Movie🧛🏻
Beetlejuice
Little Monsters 2019
The Witches of Hollywood
Series:
True Blood (first 2 seasons 24 eps)
Zomboat (6 eps)
Hemlock Grove (2 eps)
The Midnight Club (5 eps so far)
I picked up these Christopher Pike novels at a library sale years ago because I remembered loving his books when I was in Jr. High! I‘ve let them languish on my TBR shelves, but now that there‘s an adaptation of The Midnight Club, I might finally read them! But I‘ll probably watch the show first, lol.
Watched 3 episodes of The Midnight Club yesterday and continuing the binge today. It is very good, very sad.
#Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash
Watched the last 7 episodes of this fantastic spooky(and very very sad)Tv series about a group of terminal teens living in a spooky hospice who every midnight, gather in the library to tell scary stories. Until weird stuff starts to happen that forces them to come to terms with dying. I jumped a lot but I also cried. A lot. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 36pts
Watched 3episodes of The Midnight Club so far tonight, probably gonna watch more, it‘s kind of addicting. It‘s about a group of terminally ill kids in a spooky hospice who every night at midnight get together and tell scary stories to help deal with what they‘re going through. But there may be something else in the house watching & listening to them. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 16pts
It‘s my favorite reading month! With #DeweysReadathon later this month, my TBR is full of seasonal, atmospheric reads. I particularly like to include some middle grade reads that are quick to get through. Hoping to read the tagged book before the Netflix adaptation comes out, and as a #Booked2022 prompt. #Bookspin
Posting my #Scarathlon TBR pile- at least a partial one. Most of these are books I've already got in my audio queue or need to read for book club, with a few purchases I made just for this month. I can't wait for tomorrow! @Clwojick #TeamSlaughter
I hadn't heard of this book but wanted to read it in preparation for the new show. This was thought provoking and touching, though I do confess I found the ending a bit hurried.
I love Christopher Pike, and years ago, my friend Court and I started a book club that I named the Midnight Book Club after Pike's book The Midnight Club. When I moved back to Virginia, I decided to start a book blog, and used Midnight Book Girl (and started a new version of The Midnight Book Club here in VA). So I've been Midnight Book Girl (or MidnghtBookGirl bc Twitter) ever since!

I know I read this in high school but I really don't remember it. I just saw the trailer for the tv show so I guess a reread is in order 🤔🤓
I wanted to reread this book before the Netflix show. I read it in high school and I don't remember it being sad, but man, it was a bummer! I liked it, but the blurb had nothing to do with the actual story, so I was surprised by the plot.
Not my favorite by him but I thought I'd share. I would have rather seen his "Last Vampire" series or his "Remember Me" trilogy adapted instead. Just hope it's better than part one of the Fear Street Netflix series. That was pretty bad. ?
On my #bookquilt because my book club is the beating heart of my bookish being (and both my social media name and book club name was inspired for my love of Pike). She surprised me by adding the cat and books that are the symbol of our club, which made me happy and weepy.
Classic #90skid #YA #suspense reads. Recently rediscovered these while finally getting my attic in order. I know I owned a LOT more Christopher Pike books but haven‘t found the box they‘re in yet. Fingers crossed that it‘s not one of the boxes that drowned in our garage this spring! #icantbringmyselftoseewhatsurvivedfromthoseboxes #wemovedinalmostfouryearsago #theyshouldnthaveevenbeeninthegarageatthispoint #itsaprocess • #nostalgia #babbling
My coblogger and I switched back to blogger after 5 years on Wordpress (blue host prices were ridiculous). Here‘s what our new design looks like. Couldn‘t be happier! Check it out. www.midnightbookgirl.com
This showed up in my TimeHop. So my social media name, book blog and my book club were all inspired by this book (Pike is one of my favorite authors from childhood). When I had @Loriimagination design my blog, I also had her make a graphic for my book club with (and without) our rather sassy book club motto.

Love this idea because I'm always curious! Thanks, @Chelleo
Real name: Kate or Katie
#LitsyHandle: MidnightBookGirl
Story behind my Litsy name: I love Christopher Pike, and years ago I started a book club which i named the Midnight Book Club because of Pike's book The Midnight Club. Then in 2009 started book blogging under Midnight Book Girl, and that's my handle most places (except on Twitter where I had to shorten it to @Midnghtbookgirl).
Then one of them dies.
And the story begins.
The most wonderful story.
The most horrible.
Second book in the #BuddyRead with Jason (@korbus) So far so good! Can't wait to see what these are like all these years later! #nostalgia #ChristopherPike #TheMidnightClub #90sKid
