Bailedbailed

I enjoyed the first book in the series. Good premise, interesting characters. This one felt…. Bleh. If I had to listen to her say “lightning girl” one more time… Maybe it was the audiobook and I would have done better reading it. Bailed halfway through and moving on. Life is too short to be annoyed by a book.

The 2nd in the Red Queen series, Glass Sword is slower moving at first. No spoilers for those who haven‘t read the first book, but I can say that this book is grittier in a way that adds to the peril. The last third of the book moved faster. It concludes on a cliff hanger, so I started reading the next book right away! Not as good as the first, but still an enjoyable read, and heart pounding at times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 /5 #serieslove2023

🎧 As this story progressed, the author just kept getting better and better at writing fight scenes. Had I been sitting I would have been on the edge. However, in between the fight scenes things tended to drag. With the amount of information that needed dumping, things started to feel a little list-y, like reading a list of ships a la Homer. But overall it was enjoyable, and the ending… oh man did I scramble to start the next one.

Characters were a bit flat, there were many secondary characters that I was interested in but never got to know more about them. That made me to care less of the story.

This was quite cruel & dark book, but I liked how much action there was. Something happened all the time and I was intrigued. This was quite strong second book.

Writing was quite repetitive: same descriptions or things were used/said several times so some editing was needed.

Andrew65 Well done, you are making good progress. 🥳 As you say it feels there is a bit of lazy editing in the book. 2y

Compared to the first book, this one was slow-paced, but still, Red Queen has easily taken the spot of my favourite series. Maven, the “villan” is by FAR the best character and i‘m so glad this book gave the readers more of a look into what he‘s like as a cruel unforgiving king. I definitley have trust issues from what Maven did, because just the implied betrayals from Kilorn made me have to stop to prepare for what I thought would happen.

Just as good as the first one, Red Queen. Waiting very impatiently for my hold on the next one to be in from the cliffhanger! Such a good read, couldn't put it down. 9.9/10

5⭐ AMAZING BOOK, but I wish Mare didn't have to change like that or suffer that horrible fate at the end. Also I would have liked to see her trusting someone. Like TRULY TRUST someone.

OK, so it probably didn‘t need all of those first 100 pages of the main character‘s angst about the last book‘s happenings, but once it got rolling, I enjoyed it. Red Queen had a Hunger Games vibe to it that I really I liked but the sequel set itself apart more. I‘m here for Cal and Maven and also all the clever abilities Aveyard can dream up. This was August‘s #doublespin

I enjoyed Red Queen a lot. Glass sword al little less so. It felt like a transition between book 1 and book 3, with very little plot on its own, especially in the beginning. By the end, I felt so bad for Mer, that I wanted to pluck her from the book and wrap her in gauze and protect her just a little by not staying book 3 yet. We both needed a little bit of breathing room.

2nd in a YA series full of imagination, this book was enjoyable, mostly. With a varied cast of characters and good v evil storyline, Glass Sword carries on the Red Queen's quest to fight injustice & prejudice in a future world of fantasy. I found the protagonists constant self-doubt bordering on martyrdom tiresome. Still, I'll read the next because I have to know how it ends.

I am done with the book but not with the series. This book was really good -sorry, not good but great- obviously I so not like every single part of it for example the parts where some of my favourite characters die. I would recommend this book to anyone and I encourage people who have red the first book and the others to read the next books. Also if you want to read this book then you must read the book before or else you won't understand a thing.

I managed to read the book to the end. The book is full of action until the very end, but still I was not too impressed by the story itself.

I had a really hard time getting through the second book in the Red Queen series. I couldn‘t get invested in the characters and the plot was very stereotypical and low stakes. I don‘t think I‘m going to finish this series. #ya #dnf #redqueen

Book Stash of to be read books, which I'm hoping to finish by end of September:
✅ Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard (current read, 2 of 3)
✅ King's Cage by Victoria Aveyard
✅ Proxima by Stephen Baxter
✅ Here, There Be Dragons by James A. Owen
✅ The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld
✅ Cathy's Book by Sean Stewart & Jordan Wiseman which is really interesting-looking
✅ The Fireman by Joe Hill

This book was just ok for me. I liked Red Queen better and was excited to read this book. It was such a slow build that it was boring for most of the book. I would have liked more details about the newbloods as they came into the story and for it to be a little faster paced. The last quarter of the book finally picked up. I‘m not sure about reading the rest of the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
