Hi again! I‘m writing home from #LitsySummerCamp twice in one day since I missed writing yesterday. Today is arts and crafts and I‘ve never been very artistic. So I may find a hammock to hide away in and read about artists in this month‘s #BookSpin book.

Chrissyreadit Sounds perfect! 3y

With shades of Little Women we follow Virginia "Ginny" Loftin as she enters the literary world of Gilded Age New York in 1891. As part of an artistic family, Virginia excels in the written word. Thwarted in love, she pours herself into her writing and with new contacts enters an upper class artists salon. But all is not as it seems and Ginny finds her family embroiled in a scandal they may never recover from. Highly recommended!

Bit late posting these but here are the books I read last month.
All were 4 or 5 stars for me, I had an excellent reading month (probably why I'm slumping a bit this month).

I enjoyed the first half and the ending of this book. I found the first half to be intriguing and inspiring. I didn‘t really care for the plot twist, although it was definitely unexpected. I feel as though it wasn‘t the right path the story should‘ve taken. However, the ending made up for it. I didn‘t know that the author had based the story on her own ancestors until I finished the book, but it definitely made the story more meaningful to me.

BookBabe Lovely photo! I didn‘t enjoy the book as much. The writing left something to be desired for me. Glad you liked it, though! 6y
shelbyy @BookBabe I found that the writing style didn‘t really fit the time period that it was set in. For the most part I liked the story and the characters, but some things bothered me. Perhaps I should‘ve have reviewed this as a so-so instead of a pick haha 6y

A book and a bath kinda night 🕯🛁

Linear 😰😮😱 6y
shelbyy @Linear I don‘t understand 6y
Linear @shelbyy lol its nervousness from the water. My clumbsy butt would have dropped the camera and then the book while taking this picture. 6y
Linear @shelbyy to add to that, i would have somehow set the book on fire with the camra first. And then dropped it in the water. 🤣 6y
shelbyy @Linear ohhh haha I did feel nervous taking the picture, I‘ll admit 😂 6y

I could not resist the cover, but the characters and dialogue seemed too modern, and I was not feeling it.

Mehso-so

I have very mixed feelings about this. There were a lot of elements that I liked, but it didn't ever seem to all come together. An epilogue set 40 years later tying up the loose ends felt like a cop out. The author's notes indicate that the basis of the story is some family history, and perhaps that history just didn't meld with the fictional elements. I really wanted to like this and give it a "pick," but I can't get there.

#BookNLunch! Subway edition. Grabbing a bite with @MrBook before dropping him off at his library and then heading to the print shop to pick up the Tea and Tome Prints! 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Italian Herbs & Cheese Bread, turkey, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, spinach, cucumbers, black olives, & oregano, toasted, with iced green tea & honey, Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips, and raspberry cheesecake cookie.

I received an email from Book Outlet that 50 historical fiction titles were 50% off. This happened as a result...

EchoLogical I'm trying #nobuyjuly because I just ordered a few from book outlet myself. I work in a library so theoretically, it shouldn't be too painful. 😖 7y
Librarybelle I should do that too, @EchoLogical . I have no willpower. I too work at a library, but that argument hasn't won for all books yet! Haha! 7y

"An engrossing snapshot of 1890s New York City. . . . Filled with well-drawn characters and lush historical texture, this tale sweeps you into the midst of writers, artists, and musicians, some of whom wrestle darker muses than others." —Jill Morrow, author of NEWPORT
