I chose to listen to this book on audio to get me through some spring cleaning. The book has been around for as long as I can remember, but I had never gotten around to reading it and honestly, probably wouldn‘t have finished it if I had been actually reading it lol The information seemed out of date, however there were some good tidbit such as remembering we‘re different and to write a letter before speaking in anger. I definitely expected more🤣

Downloaded this on kindle as it was free and I was intrigued I found it sexist, out of date and wholly ridiculous with its gender stereotypes, so bad it was laughable and couldn‘t finish it

For @Eggs #JulyColdplay prompt (revised!) for today #XandY, chromosomes came to mind - XY and XX, men and women, seemingly from different planets! I‘ve never read this book, never wanted to read it, and imagine it would seem a little outdated now.

madamereadsalot1 Oh my gosh! I read this in highschool, and would carry it around and read ridiculous passages aloud to my friends between classes and at lunch, etc. So funny! I completely forgot about it until this triggered the memories! 😅 5y

Hey everyone! I'm moving (luckily house, and not city). I tend to move my books with me but this time, I'm giving away books which I'll not re-read. First one for today #BookDrop at Chappaqua, NY. If you like to join in and spread the #booklove. Select a book, place in a public place, take a pic, share it in social media with location and tag me. Please use #BookSwapBookDrop

I didn't pick this book for some relationship advice or anything. The title really intrigued me and made me pick the book. The book really has a good starts and keeps you interested. But, after a while if you aren't looking for any relationship advice and are just reading for fun, it might get a bit boring and doesn't keep you hooked if looking from that perspective. Overall a simple and a fast read.

My January challenge pick for #theunreadshelfproject2019 . This has been on my shelf since the longest time and feel like tackling it first. Not a fan of non fiction now but I had bought this when I didn't bother about genres much.

lauren.lerner I‘ve never seen that cover before. But then again, I don‘t think I realized this book was a thing beyond when it was first published 27 yrs ago. Interested to hear what you think of it! 6y
swatreads @lauren.lerner Yeah I've seen the white cover but I like this one better. Wow 27 years? That long? I had no idea about that. Read a few pages and finding it interesting. Relatable:P will review once I'm done:):) 6y

Lot of hate for this these days but it really helped me understand women better and I've avoided a number of arguments as a result. It taught me to really listen when my GF is upset rather than try to fix it. Not everyone will fit into the gender roles but that's like any self help book and the author does repeat himself a lot but as a man this has helped so much. Men and women are equal but we're different and there's nothing wrong with that.

Aleida That book is very sexist. I‘m glad it helped you, but remember above all women are human. Not some strange exotic mysterious species to be figured out. 6y
myers85 @Aleida There were some cringeworthy stereotypes - women love shopping, men not asking for directions, women doing the majority of housework. Sometimes it felt like a bad 50's sitcom! But its a shame as there is some very helpful advice in there. And I agree, we're all human but there are big contrasts between men and women and I think the book helped me realise times I thought I was right I was really not seeing my GF's point of view. 6y

Tangentially book-related post: I'm obsessed with this podcast I just discovered: By the Book. Jolenta and Kristen read a self-help book every episode and live by its advice for two weeks, then talk about what worked and what didn't. I'm always curious about #selfhelp books, especially the titles I see everyone check out at the library!

MaureenMc Me, too! I was laughing out loud today on the treadmill, listening to their episode about The Miracle Morning. 😄 7y

it was a good book for those who are in a long-term relationship and likes to keep the love alive. Relationships are hard to work out and this book helps in lessening the load. It is a very practical guide and is very insightful into the psyche of the opposite sex. However, John Gray is redundant and kept paraphrasing himself. I would appreciate pictures or some funny comic strips.

So, the book says Men and Women are naturally different and we need to embrace them gently for a happy relationship💑👩‍❤️‍👩👨‍❤️‍👨There were a few facts in this book, like the one above ☝,which Im glad I noticed and they made real sense. But, I felt there were too many of redundant explanations, for which I was too impatient😦. As a result I had to skim few pages🙁There was one idea I loved and I wish I could try though - Writing love letters😍

Gezemice I never read this book but even hearing about it makes me angry. Generalizations and stereotyping! Misunderstandings that can happen in a relationship and are not gender specific. For example, in my marriage, my husband would say that I never listen. We had to figure out that I am just bad at signalling that I am listening and I needed to learn to give feedback. I suggest counseling instead of this stereotyping, terrible book. 8y
OvyReadz @Gezemice Yes there were many generalisations 😕 and I agree relationship issues are not gender specific. Anyway, now that Im done with the book, I chose to pick what I felt appropriate and ignore the rest 😅 8y

ImaginativeMom My husband, who read this book twenty years ago before marriage, will occasionally trot this stuff out. 🙄 I'm not saying it's not worth a read, just maybe with a little bit of salt and a whole lotta perspective? 8y
OvyReadz Haha... I am halfway through now.. I already feel its redundant @ImaginativeMom 8y
