How cool are these?!

I buy and sell vintage items and i came across these cool author card games. The top one is from 1938 and the bottom one is around the same time. I may be holding on to these!

DivineDiana Very, very cool! ❤️ 3y
LeahBergen Ohhhh, I love them!! 3y
SeaToSkyes I used to play this with my dad as a kid! I think we still have it somewhere 3y

Anitareads More than half of the books I've read are new to me authors (I think 60% of the books I've read). Which doesn't surprise me, because I always look for new authors and don't usually stick with the same ones. 6y
JBA I'd say probably 70-80% of mine were new to me, which is far too many to list. 😊 6y
SilversReviews @Anitareads Sounds like a great plan. 😊 It is always fun finding new authors. Thanks for sharing and commenting. 6y

@Jess7

Today‘s Prompt: Male Author

I have a few male authors that I enjoy:

Todd Borg
Ronald K. Balson
Charles Todd

Kaye Most of my favorites are male . I believe females CAN write just as good a book as males , but I think the types of books I like often tend to lean more into stuff men write about, like lots of true crime writers, lots of NF writers, are male. Females lean more towards romances and relationships and family stuff. Just my opinion. Some of my favorites -Pat Conroy, Wally Lamb, John Irving, Richard Russo , Bryson, Truman Capote, Larry McMurtry ... 6y
SilversReviews @Kaye Thanks for your terrific answer and list of authors. Good choices. 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Niall Williams, Richard Flanagan, and David Mitchell. ❤️ 6y

1. I always think that I read more female, but when I look over my notes it's 50/50. Apparently I forget about reading male authors
2. 10
3. Orange
4. Black
5. Stephen King
6. Few

Jess7 Ohhh this is fun. I‘ll have to repost this later, but I think im going to comment my answers below for now.. so fun! 7y
Jess7 1. Female | 2. 10 Es on the Beartown cover | 3. Purple (I rarely see purple books) | 4. Blue (most of the ones I own are some variation of blue) | 5. Stephen King | 6. “up“ is the last word on page 63 of my copy of Beartown. What‘s the hashtag for this quiz if I repost later? 7y

My University is holding a literary festival in October and I‘ve just been given a sneaky look at the draft programme! It looks awesome and includes Val McDermid, Kit de Waal, Colm Toibin, Paul Du Noyer and Sebastian Barry!!! I can‘t wait. Those in NW England I‘ll post link to programme once it‘s all confirmed and hopefully others can come! It‘s the weekend 19-21 October 😁

Cathythoughts Sounds amazing... I‘ll keep an eye on those dates, if my husband happens to be working in England , I could tag along 👍🏻 7y

This might be the last one I do unless I can figure out how I can get the font size bigger.

Jeg The one that comes to mind for me is Patricia Cornwall . Really liked her first books back in the early 90s. Can‘t read her now. 7y

I was tagged by @merelybookish and I turned it into a bit of a process. First, I made a huge list of authors I would recommend. Then I took off authors who've only written one book I've actually read. Then I removed children's and YA authors. And finally, I removed any authors that I've seen someone else list for this prompt. I had twelve left, so two got the boot! If you'd like to do this, consider yourself tagged! #10authorrecommendations

batsy Sophocles! 7y
merelybookish That's a great list! I need to go back and re-visit Leslie Marmon Silko. Read her about 20 years ago. Loved Ceremony. 7y

I was tagged 3 times for #10authorrecommendations but I have the HARDEST TIME bc I think to recommend an author as opposed to a book I have to have read at least 2 books by them & liked both. Bc I transitioned from children's books to Classics for MANY YEARS and only got deeply into contemporary fiction more recently, that list is mostly classics authors, some of which I wouldn't universally recommend, you know? SO TOUGH! This=best I could do 😆

Natasha.C.Barnes I don't have as many repeat authors yet in more recent stuff I've read bc I'm trying to taste a lot of different stuff, except for palette-cleansing series and the like (Steig Larson, VE Schwab, Gillian Flynn and what have you). But I don't go around recommending them bc if you're in the mood for a Gillian Flynn style book, you know where to look. They don't need my help! 😆 7y
Tamra Very hard, too many! 7y

readinginthedark Some of my favorites, too, like Woolf and Borges! Great list! 7y
BarbaraBB Great list! 7y
Texreader I did same. I had to have read multiple books and liked most of them to be on my list. 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Texreader Exactly! This has made it clear what authors I need to read another book of in 2018! 😆 7y
