This was a quick read and short book, but I found myself skipping over paragraphs. The characters felt shallow to me, the romance wasn‘t very believable, and I found some aspects confusing, like how she had an 8-year fight with her dad then suddenly, they‘re both okay with each other. Maybe it was the pacing, but it felt weird to me.
I actually had a Christmas movie marathon yesterday! I watched the Hallmark movie based on the tagged book, and the 2018 Grinch movie as well as the OG Grinch. And, I got my holiday cry on with Last Christmas. It was a good day!

#NovelNovember was quite productive for me! I finished Beheld for #LiteraryCrew, and 2 #ARCS for #NetGalley. If you enjoy Jane Austen, and want to kick your holiday reading off with a quick, sweet romance—check out Pride, Prejudice & Mistletoe! I cannot recommend The Penguin Book of Christmas Stories; and I really enjoyed Anne Perry‘s latest Christmas offering. I will be diving into more of her works in the new year.

Ugh…Darcy Fitzwilliam…why is she compelled to constantly refer to her wealth?! We get it, it was firmly established that you‘re a very successful partner at your firm…why do we need to keep hearing you state how you‘ve paid for everything and/or how much money you‘ve made for yourself?! So glad this ended quickly. #bookspin #bookspinbacklog
Book spin backlog from April…let‘s see how this goes… 🤔 🤨

It‘s a #holidaytradition that I work a half-day on Christmas Eve but this year, today is our holiday. I‘d love to tell you I did something fun or productive but I am still trying to catch up on rest from last weekend‘s vet visits & so I ran to the store & then took a 5-hour nap. Starving when I woke up so eating a. lunch/dinner poke bowl & trying to actually read the tagged book ⬇️
This book didn‘t live up to my expectations, but I still really love the title.

Watched this awesome Hallmark movie!!

Wow this one was not for me. The story itself wasn't too bad, but she really just should have written the story instead of trying to make it a P&P retelling. For me, the core of Austen's Darcy is his commitment to his family & responsibilities, but this Darcy has left behind her “unsupportive“ family to pursue her own career (& somehow magically, without any of her dad's money... which to me sounds like she should have started with $0??... ⬇
@Squidget is also hosting a readathon that starts today!! I am on track to read 9300 pages by the end of December, so for right now my goal is to try and hit 9400 pages by the end of the month. I'll come up with a new goal for this readathon for its January portion!!
#ShutdownReadathon
This book was super cute and such a fun read!!! I loved this twist on the classic story and to have it set during the holidays was the icing on top of the cake!! I highly recommend!!!
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
This book was...not good. I think the only reason I stuck with it was because it was such a hot mess it became amusing.
The storyline from the first 1/2 barely made sense, the equivalent of Darcy saving Lydia in this story was Darcy saving delinquent twins Kit and Lyle from juvie and was just...awkward.
It felt like a bad 80s romance, and it was written in 2017! #PemberLittens
Another entry in what is becoming a weird verb usage series for this book.
In this installment, every character that is either nervous or long-winded, ends up panting. 🥵🤨
I think this is the 4th time a character has power walked somewhere. I‘ve never seen so much power walking in one book, and mostly for such tiny distances! 🤷🏻♀️
I‘m being picky, but this story is partially set in Ohio, and there are zero Bloomingdale‘s in the state of Ohio.
Little inaccuracies like that drive me nuts!
I barely managed to get through chapter three. This book is awful. Thank goodness it was cheap. I‘ve decided not to waste my time.
I‘m kinda grumpy today (probably due to the cavity I had filled this morning 😬), so I‘m settling in with a light P&P retelling, and maybe a nap. 😃 #PemberLittens
Here‘s the thing: I liked it! I saw so many negative comments that made me think “but what did you expect?”😹 It‘s like a 3.5/5 stars, because it‘s a quick read and I found it entertaining. Predictable and some stuff seemed unnecessary, and there is a lot going on that doesn‘t make sense, but I mean, give it a try if you want something quick and Christmasy!✨
Morning mood with a new book✨ Look at my mug! It has Christmas sloths😹
“She unzipped her Louis Vuitton suitcase and took out her favorite Kate Spade deco dot pajamas.”
I GET IT. SHE‘S RICH. Do we need these reminders!? It‘s only chapter two!
Also only $78 for the pj‘s?? C‘mon Melissa you could have found a more expensive pair of pajamas for little miss 3rd richest woman in New York.
ALSO, I saw a used pair on Poshmark for forty bucks. Should I get used pajamas?
Chapter 1
“She turned then to face her reflection. She was confident in her good looks and considered herself to be just as gorgeous as everybody told her she was.”
Hmmm I‘m not sure I‘m going to like a book with such an insufferable Darcy 😂😂😂 maybe she will grow on me.
Of course, I did get this in the $4.99 bin at Christmas Tree Shops so that could be sign???
#pemberlittens
Hmm. Not sure what (aside for the name Darcy Fitzwilliam) this has to do with Pride and Prejudice. It was...not good. But I got 8 bingos (red), and it's apparently based on the book, which I definitely won't be reading now.

A fun Christmas Movie!
Enjoyed snuggling with this one yesterday afternoon, I don't think it's the best romantic Christmas movie but still fun.

First #wintergames2020 book is done! This was okay. A quick, easy read but nothing special. I‘ve never read Pride and Prejudice so I can‘t say how it compares. But it gives me 26pts for #merryreaders and 4 hours for #crushtherush and #readyourway readathons. @TheSpineView @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick

Okay , I am going to try again. First seasonal read attempt was a bust. Let‘s hope this one is better. It is being made into a Hallmark channel movie so assuming it‘s Christmasy #christmasread #christmas
I don't mind a light story, but there was almost nothing here! Not to mention the uneven pacing and none of the wit, feeling, or growth we see in the original characters. The LGBTQ representation in the Bingley/Jane love story saves this from being an outright pan, but it sure comes close! #PemberLittens
Mrs. Wattlesbrook was reminding Jane of Miss April, the spiteful, tight-bunned, glossy-lipped, stick-cracking #ballet teacher of her elementary school years. She hadn‘t much cared for Miss April. #QuotsyFeb20
Happy New Year Littens 🥳 May 2020 bring you health, happiness, all the books and endless reading time
I have a new reading spot for the next couple of days with my new wine sippy cup I saved just for here ❤️💚thank you again @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I am totally living my best life right now
Just started this Christmas retell of P & P from my #canuckchristmasswap #poutinepenpals @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego ❤️
Melissa De La Cruz might be a bestselling author, but I didn‘t think the book was well written. The idea was good, but the execution fell flat. Rather than giving Pride and Prejudice a new flavor, the story strips the original plot from all its depth. Conflicts get resolved too quickly and emotions are not communicated very well through Darcy‘s narration. Moreover, both pride and prejudice are abandoned as actual character flaws, which is a shame.
I‘m so excited 🎉I opened my #Canuck Christmas swap package from @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego and I LOVE everything! That festive red juice cup is going on my ski trip FOR SURE! In fact I‘m putting everything in my beautiful new tote and I‘m pretty much packed now 😘😘thank you thank you thank you
#weeklyforecast, part deux ?? @Cinfhen
The beauty of being a gainfully (and gratefully!) employed grownup is that you get to be Mrs. Claus for yourself and #treatyoshelf to some new seasonal beauties. Yay! ???
I'm a HUGE fan of contemporary retellings of Pride & Prejudice and the tagged title happens to be a gender-swapping one! I also love me some YA and as stated on the cover, "Let it Snow" is now on Netflix!
Excited to dive into these!
Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa de la Cruz is inventive with character names, genders, and sexualities, making Darcy a woman and Lizzie into Luke. Darcy returns to her hometown, Pemberley, Ohio, for Christmas after her mother has a heart attack. This retelling is devoid of the social critique, while watering a complex novel into a cliche.

#festivephotochallenge day 2- sappy holiday romance. I‘m patiently waiting for this one from the library. I‘ve read it before, but I can‘t wait to read it again. I may have to watch the hallmark movie while I wait. #merryreaders #wintergames @Clwojick @StayCurious
I may have turned my 2020 TBR into a Christmas Tree
Yes, I‘m reading a book that is not only not one I listed for my #weeklyforecast but is also Christmas themed. I thought if I posted pictures of some of my Halloween decorations and nestled the actual book in with the Halloween plushie smash mallows, I‘d be forgiven for rushing the season. 😂
It‘s been snowing since about 10am and there‘s no sign of it stopping anytime soon! It feels very much like Christmas so it‘s timely that my hold on this book came through on Overdrive. Even though this has been pretty universally panned by my fellow Littens, I thought I‘d give it a go. Hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday. Snuggle up and stay warm!❄️ #hibernating
It's the Goodwill box for this one. In the authors defense, it's hard to write modern version of P&P. 1st Impressions works in the now, rest of the story doesn't. Today no one is going to starve in the hedgerows for not marrying. Rescue Lydia redo doesn't work at all. Worst is Darcy explaining 'she's not selfish snob but just Independent.' Uhh No. She's awful. Both her & Luke are totally unlikable in this Gender Swap of P&P. #notmydarcy
After busy New Year's Celebrations it's lovely to have a quiet day at home. I've got the book but haven't yet read it. Movie has been on DVR since Thanksgiving. I refuse to watch Christmas movies in November.
What do ya'll think? #movievsbook
#day9 #12daysofbookmas
Wow, this book is...something else. When it decides to dip into P&P it does it badly, and almost every character is a terrible person (especially the two mains). There's not one, but TWO revenge engagements. Wow.
Not even a fun light read.
#readharder #romancenovelbyoraboutapersonofcolor @bookriot #litsyatoz @BookishMarginalia
My last holiday read and it was just meehhh. Darcy drove me absolutely nuts with her inner dialogue. I wanted to strangle her most of the time. Bingley and Luke kept me reading. 2.5-3 🌟for it being a quick no brainer read for the busy holiday season.
This was... unfortunate. The writing and story were so bad it was as if a high school student read P & P and thought, "that doesn't seem too difficult. I think I can reverse the roles and set it in modern times." Except they couldn't. And I checked, the person who wrote this is not a high school student so I don't know what her excuse is. If you're an Austen fan and feel compelled to read it I can't stop you but borrow, don't buy it!
Read this on the plane home for Christmas and just got a chance to finish it. It was eh, the almost 30 year old characters acted like silly 14 year olds. I could see it as a Hallmark movie but the book wasn't worth the read.
