Bailedbailed

This pretty book can‘t hold my attention right now. The world building and explanation of the science/magic isn‘t gelling for me. So at 60 pages, I‘m #hibernating it. I may try again later this month, or it may be a complete bail. Too bad, I also have book 2…

TrishB Too bad, that cover is fab! 3y
JamieArc @TrishB I agree. I saw the cover and was like, “ooohhhh 😍” and then immediately was disappointed when I saw the Bail 😂 3y
Soubhiville @Trish @JamieArc it could just be me! It‘s sort of steampunk fantasy, and I bet it‘s just right for someone else. 3y

1. Throwing books in the garbage. My husband will do this sometimes when he finishes a book that he dislikes. I usually see it sitting on top of the trash and save it.
2. I do like.

I really, really wanted to love this book. I was so excited. But Ellen came across as over-privileged and self absorbed. The storytelling failed to suck me in and I found myself trying to get through this as quickly as possible so I could move onto more interesting books. The end was a bit abrupt, though the sweet notes to pets were heartwarming. Disappointing all around.

#Hibernating this book for now as I keep falling asleep when I go to read it. I still want to read it some day though, it's just not the right time at the moment. #marchunshelfing failure with first book! @Clwojick

Clwojick It happens! I have some books that I still really want to read even though they‘re not my regular genre. The thought of reading them now is not exciting and yet I don‘t want to unshelf them lol 5y

Pickpick

After falling in love with Vermont on a vacation, Ellen Stimson and her family move from St. Louis to a small town, Dorset. They then decide to buy the town‘s country store, a fixture of the community, and make one incredible mistake after another.

I understand how this book has gotten some negative reviews. You can‘t help but shake your head at some of their mistakes and feel a bit bad for the townspeople, but I found the stories very humorous.

Dolly Sounds like my kind of book - stacked! 5y
CoffeeCatsBooks @dolly She even includes some recipes at the end. 5y

I started this but was not in the mood to read it.

But what I read was about dancing. So #cabaret

Freespirit Sometimes you just have to move on when the book doesn't engage you. I used to plow through. So many books to read😊 6y
LibrarianRyan @Freespirit if I am interested but not in the mood I will keep it to try again later. Then usually the next time I breeze through it. If I wasn‘t enjoying it, I do t usually force it unless it‘s for a book club. 6y
Cinfhen Same, Ryan!! I call those books #hibernating 🐻 6y

LibrarianRyan @Cinfhen I like that. Totally stealing it. Currently I‘m hibernating 4 I think. Children of blood and bone. Rose blood. Three dark crowns. Girl who circumnavigated... (edited) 6y
Cinfhen I think @julesG coined that phrase...it‘s soooo good 🙌🏻 6y
julesG I have had a Goodreads shelf for "hibernating" books for ages. @Cinfhen It sounds much better than "books I bailed on but intend to give another try one day" 6y
vivastory Yes, we're waiting for Litsy to update with a hibernating feature! 6y

It‘s been snowing since about 10am and there‘s no sign of it stopping anytime soon! It feels very much like Christmas so it‘s timely that my hold on this book came through on Overdrive. Even though this has been pretty universally panned by my fellow Littens, I thought I‘d give it a go. Hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday. Snuggle up and stay warm!❄️ #hibernating

Cinfhen Stay safe 6y
PurpleyPumpkin Thanks @Cinfhen Will do! I‘m not going anywhere if I don‘t have to. 😉 6y

Cathythoughts I havnt read ... I love the cover ... there seem to be a lot of lovely “slowly falling” covers. Did you see Big Love , the telly series... the start of that was all falling too & lovely ... 6y
JennyM @LauraBeth 😆 me and Arthur just didn‘t get on for some reason. 6y
JennyM @Cathythoughts there are lots of covers like this aren‘t there? I haven‘t seen Big love - there is something quite hypnotic about the falling image 6y
vivastory @Cinfhen Was it a bail? Or just #hibernating 🐻? 6y
Cinfhen This was a BAIL 😂😂😂😂 @vivastory ‼️‼️‼️‼️ 6y
Reggie @LauraBeth no, We stand two strong here. @vivastory This book was great. Middle age gay author goes on midlife crises adventure after he receives a wedding invitation from his lover. It is funny, it is poignant, it makes fun of itself in the best way possible. And there are these little gems all throughout the book that let you know the author loves books. Check it out. 6y
LauraBeth @Reggie I loved it so much that I want to re-read it! ❤️ 6y

Mehso-so

Stimson & her family move to a small town in Vermont, bring a contractor and crew from St. Louis to remodel their home, buy the local country store on a whim and run it into the ground & generally upset the locals. There was definitely humor in here and her sections on what makes Vermont so special were beautiful, but I was more annoyed with her than anything else. Rich people moving to “quaint” towns and then trying to change them annoy me.

Suet624 There were some great 1-star reviews on Goodreads that really made me chuckle. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17591643-mud-season 7y
MicheleinPhilly Well at least those reviews were fun. 7y
LibrarianToujours One of my summer library patrons is like this. The three months he‘s here he spends telling me how to run the library. 🙄🙄 (edited) 7y

LauraBeth Agree with @MicheleinPhilly - the one ⭐️ reviews were fun to read. 😂 @NHLibrarian 🙄 he sounds throat-punch worthy 7y
rockpools Wow, that sounds bad! Every so often we get people moving into pretty villages down here, and complaining to the council because the church bells make too much noise. She sounds like one of them! 7y
LibrarianToujours @LauraBeth 😆 Definitely. He also complains that he can‘t have bookshelves in his Florida home because most of the walls are windows looking at the ocean 🙄🎻 7y
Suet624 @MicheleinPhilly @laurabeth I was trying to read those reviews out loud to a friend of mine and I was laughing so hard I often couldn‘t finish the sentences. 7y
Suet624 @NHLibrarian isn‘t it just ridiculous? Why do people want to be so impactful on others? 7y
Suet624 @RachelO Yes! Exactly! 7y
