How to Talk to Girls at Parties
How to Talk to Girls at Parties | Neil Gaiman
How to Talk to Girls at Parties by Sunday Times bestselling writer Neil Gaiman is a graphic novel with extraordinary artwork by the Eisner Award-winning duo Fbio Moon and Gabriel B. Soon to be a feature film starring Nicole Kidman, this adaptation is 'a quirky delight' (Audrey Niffenegger) and will appeal to fans of Alan Moore, Dave McKean and beyond. ENN is a fifteen-year-old boy who just doesn't understand girls, while his friend Vic seems to have them all figured out. Both teenagers are in for the shock of their young lives, however, when they crash a local party only to discover that the girls there are far, far more than they appear! From the Locus Award-winning short story by Neil Gaiman, one of the most celebrated authors of our time, and adapted in vibrant ink-and-watercolour illustrations by the Daytripper duo of brothers Fbio Moon and Gabriel B, this original graphic novel is not to be missed!

My only complaint was that it was so short. I loved the storyline, loved the art, but I wanted more!

I read the short story a few years ago when it came out. It's such a strange story that really stuck with me. I was thrilled to see a comic version of the story.

I don't know that it adds anything to the content of the story, but the art is beautiful and really compliments the story. If you enjoyed the short story, or haven't read it yet, I definitely recommend checking this out.

This gets a pick for Moon & Ba. This was not an easy story to adapt, but you can feel the magic and strength of the “girls” and the confusion and loneliness of Enn through the art and limited text. My TBR stack has been reshuffled and I‘ll be starting Casanova tonight.

Sigh. Neil Gaiman is so hit or miss for me it I cannot stop trying. The only saving grace is that this was a short story so it finished it quickly. I didn‘t care for the story, the art, any of it. On the surface, it‘s an odd idea with no point. But if I read it as a an allegory, it annoys and insults me. Pass.

This is one of those books where you finish and think, “What did I just read?!” But I enjoyed it. I didn‘t realize it was a short story. I read the graphic novel, and the quirky beauty of it seeps through the words and pictures in a strange and beautiful way.

This has never been one of my favorite Neil Gaiman stories, and it puzzles me a bit that it's so popular with so many adaptations. But this is a beautiful, evocative graphic adaptation, and I definitely like it more than the original prose.

ju.ca.no I just saw the movie and loved it😄 still have to read the story though🙈 7y
Clare-Dragonfly @ju.ca.no I am curious about the movie! They must have added to the story for it, because I can't see how there's enough in the story itself to be a full-length film. 7y

Ok not quite sure what I read here but hey it's written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by the brilliant Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba (I adore Daytripper!). It's a strange tale of a 15yo guy who crashes a party w his cool friend Vic and tries to talk to girls at the party. Gorgeous artwork and such a strange and somehow sad story. #readathon

So this was hard. I don't think this is a story that translates very well to a visual medium. It wasn't written that way. The whole story is based around things that we can't quite see and can't quite understand and anything an artist outs down, no matter how good, is going to fall short of our imagination. But it is a good story. And good art. I'd say if you're a Gaiman fan, read the short story first, then check this one out.

Not sure what I just read, and I am positive I didn't understand the larger meaning, but it was on my shelf, it's GAIMAN, and I was very attracted to it. The language/story is very poetic, the art super beautiful, and the feeling both calm but also unsettling. I need to refresh myself on the original story and it says a movie is coming. Should be interesting!

It's a perfect short story, telling you what you need to know, leaving the rest up to your imagination. Illustrating it just heightens those effects.

alanacristin @RealLifeReading it's an adaptation of Gaiman's short story into a very short graphic novel. Graphic novella?
