A Brooklyn mom embezzles from her daughters' school and goes on the lam, hiding in plain sight when the school is audited. It's satirical in some ways. Just started this. I am annoyed by two things: microchapters & the rough edge of the book. I have a personal dislike of books with unfinished edges. The microchapters make me feel like I am watching a tennis match on 1.5x speed. #2018 #bookclub #noveldiscussions

Why would anyone DO this? More specifically, my desire to sit and read in peace is greater than my desire to find one of my kids and ask "wtf?'
panFor a book that I waited quite a while for through the holds at my library, this didn‘t live up to the wait or hype. This debut novel is about Marion Palm who embezzles from her daughters‘ school and then takes off. That‘s about the sum of it. The story plot was bland and the characters were very one dimensional. The one thing I can say it was a quick read. #supportyourlocallibrary

After the intensity of my last book it‘s back to our ‘previously scheduled programming‘ of Marion Palm...hopefully it will involve a lot less psychological torture and tension, especially if I ever plan to sleep tonight. Like my lazy cats and dog are doing quite noisily right now 😻#readathon
Ok, I‘ve got a #readathon stack! I won‘t get to all of them, but I‘ve already started two of them (#ThisDarknessMine and #StalkingJackTheRipper). I thought I would put in an indie press read, ‘Invoking Nonna‘, and ‘Sleepy Hollow‘ and other short stories by Washington Irving. I REALLY want to get started on #ThePower‘ from my #botm box! AND my ARC of ‘The Broken Girls‘! #deweys24hourreadathon
I read about this book in Entertainment Weekly. The synopsis makes me think of Where'd You Go Bernadette which I loved.

so-so3.5: uneven with moments of humor and brilliance. It's short, but it took me over a week to read. I will eagerly read Culliton's next book. In some ways, it reminds me of how I felt about Maria Semple's first novel.
