The style of constantly throwing in social media posts and then immediately quoting the authors (with their glaring grammatical errors) was annoying. Still, I thought the message was good & worthwhile. Thank goodness it is a fast read. I will give her other books a shot & hope the style is more prose & less reposting and quoting…
Very short and quick. I‘m a self help book junkie and loved this book. You can get the gist of it from her Ted talk:Stop screwing yourself over - but I love me some good testimonials. Lol 4 stars
Basically if you want to do something you must do it within 5 seconds before your brain kills the idea and has too much time to think. That‘s all you need to know. The rest of the book is just fluff and gives examples of how others have used the rule. Wouldn‘t waste my time on this
I‘ve gushed about Mel Robbins‘ work before- enough for a lifetime. This Audible Original is no exception. I just get so inspired and motivated listening to her dosing out reality in these coaching sessions and I find something valuable in every one of them. And Mel‘s talk show starts next week. Eek!! 🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉

I've created the habit of reading for 10 minutes before I get up. Next up Mel Robbins. I live listening to her motivate.

Thanks @MelAnn for recommending this on audio. Definitely the way to go!
I was v resistant to this initially, but she backs up her simple (but not easy) '5 second rule' with both academic research and social media stories. The research she's looked into covers all sorts- anxiety, procrastination, social stuff, mornings - and I found that particularly helpful! I will actually be listening to this again, and using several of her tips & tricks. 👍
I know that I have books I prefer to recommend and if you‘ve followed me for a bit, you won‘t be surprised to know this one makes my top 10 list!
What I want to know is what YOU would recommend to high school / college graduates as must reads for the life ahead of them - books you wish you had read earlier in life. Use #booksforgraduates and tag me so I can check it out! (Or comment below.)

Just finished second time thru this book, this time the audiobook! I highly recommend getting the audiobook! The first time I read it was right before my brother died and I just didn‘t retain or apply it all ... This time I already have and it‘s changing my life ... one 5 Second decision at a time .... 5...4...3...2...1...Go!
This is something I‘ve wanted to do for 10 months. It‘s a memorial wall / shelf - my brother and my dad. ... The James Bond funko pop is for my dad who loved James Bond. My brother‘s coon skin hat and his cowboy hat... The canvas is a photo my brother took - he was an amazing photographer. ... It was 5 Second Rule book that kicked my ass and I finally got this done!
Truth ... often I just don‘t feel like it! Audiobook is like having Mel Robbins right next to me coaching me! Love it! (And she kicks my ass!)
Listening to audiobook tonight ... instead of reading. It‘s amazing what I pick up hearing that doesn‘t connect when I read it the first time. #5SecondRule
Hmmm which to choose - Kindle ebook? Audiobook? I can‘t choose the hardback because I loaned it out. That‘s how much I love this book! It really seems so simple - but it has gone a long way to help me deal with my tendencies to self-sabotage! I‘ve reset them for March! I have a few books that I re-read thru the year and this is one of them! #marchbooks #marchtbr #5SecondRule
Photo in pic is of me in Ruidoso, NM on vacation in February!
For February vacation, I wanted to read some motivational books. However...I think there‘s a reason I‘ve never picked up books like this. I cannot handle the second person point of view or constant “real life” examples. Anyone have some suggestions on books that are easier to read? I‘m sure it speaks to some, but 200 pages of the author telling me counting down from five will give me everything I‘ve ever dreamed of is not my cup of tea.
I have heard Mel briefly talk about the 5 second rule. Easy to read book about a simple but not easy tool. I am going to be using it.
My new mantra for 2018

Wow. Stop what you are doing and go pick up this book. Seriously. Right now. Do it. Im normally not big on self-help type books but this was recommended to me by a stranger as a way to help with emotional spending. It did so much more! It really provides an extremely simple way to get up out of bed in the morning and tackle the world. One of my favorite lines is “Leave nothing important unsaid.” A reminder to be present. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finally got my reading nook set up exactly how I want it, thanks to a recent trip to my storage unit. Of course my fur child had to sneak into the picture.
