Loved this one
Grace Lin wrote the book she wished she had as a kid, but it is a lovely treat for all kids! It would be a great option as a read aloud for early elementary. It‘s a sweet story of friendship, family traditions, and growing up Asian American in a predominately white community.

#audiowalk pit stop for a matcha latte and a quick read while I wait for the nearby Target to fulfill my pickup order. 😃 I love urban greenways that go by major shopping areas so I can multi-task while I exercise!

Grace Lin grew up on a community with few Asian American families. She wrote this book, about a girl (named Grace) feeling isolated as the only Asian American in her class. Lin‘s author‘s note says she wrote the book she needed as a kid. But this book is good for all kids, to help build empathy and understanding. And it‘s a cute story.
The kids and I enjoyed our day at the Asian Festival here in San Antonio. My son and I did a tea-tasting, we toured the bonsai, and lots of Asian food.
Happy New Year! 新年快乐!
Happy almost Year of the Dog! It's New Year Eve today and I'm almost done with spring cleaning, decorating, went shopping for our hotpot reunion dinner tonight and baked two kinds of cookies (pork floss cookies and these Best Chocolate Chip Cookies from Serious Eats http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/12/the-food-lab-best-chocolate-chip-cook...
Pop sugar reading challenge #24 The year of the dog-diff ethnicity
While celebrating the Chinese New Year with her family, Grace (Pacy) finds out that the year of the dog is when you‘re supposed to find out what you want to do with your life. So she tries her best to find out what she‘s talented at. I really enjoyed the characters & the story, especially the different family stories Pacy‘s mom tells her children at various points in the plot. I‘m interested in reading more of Grace Lin‘s Pacy novels.
My daughter was the first one to finish a book for #readathon this morning! She picked a good one to start with! Next up for her: an A-Z mystery.
