I enjoyed the 13th book in the Three Pines Series. This one takes place in July with flash backs to November throughout.

Baking ham & cheese sliders for a work party while also attempting to get my reading in this morning. Wad able to get a few pages in before it was time to get ready for work. Love the very Agatha Chrisitie-like writing in this novel. I'm wondering how the title fits into this story.

I took a little break from this series but recently picked up book 13. It did not disappoint! It was wonderful to visit Three Pines again, and this mystery kept me turning pages. I loved the structure Penny uses to tell the story through flashbacks while we listen to Gamache's testimony on the witness stand.

Penny does it again! Great mystery, kept me guessing, Three Pines characters kept the story moving and the discussion of conscience and good and evil was compelling. So good! Great on #audio #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

The 13th in the series: I thought this was well written but a bit harder to get into emotionally, maybe because it shifts away from the cosy village and gets into the opioid crisis and courtroom drama. It also tackles challenging ethical conflicts. That said, I can understand Penny not wanting to fall into a bland rhythm.

Well, not my favorite of the Chief Inspector Gamache series but that doesn‘t mean it was bad by any means. Louise Penny has the capability to write of two different stories with rich, historical depth - all happening simultaneously and then woven together at the very end to the point where no detail is forgotten. I love her writing!! This book just didn‘t hit the usual wow factor for me.

March has been a slow, reading month for me. Fingers crossed for a much more productive April 🤞🏻

I liked this one a bit more than the past couple. I was not on board with Gamache's plan no matter how hard they tried to justify and wrestle with the moral of it. This was the first time I really struggled with Gamache.

I don't know, Gamache...I just don't know if you'll pull it off this time!!

It‘s probably just bad timing as I‘ve had a couple of really stressful days but I could not get into this at all! I was hoping for the usual cozy, murder mystery in Three Pines but I couldn‘t get into the drug cartel storyline or the jumping back and forth and the court room drama! Nah! 😑

Despite the title, glass houses don't play much of a role in this novel. As I read these books, I'm made aware of my unconscious United Statesian view of Canada as a kinder, blander version of the US, which is not like Penny's Quebec at all. I've visited Ontario and PEI, but our 2020 Montreal trip was scuttled due to the pandemic. These novels remind me that I need to reschedule the trip...and now make time for the Eastern Townships, too.

What a book! The tension in this one started at 100% and just kept going. Best in the series so far.

There‘s some bad stuff going down in Three Pines, and a character who #murders isn‘t even the half of it! #MayCharacters

Love this series!

I don‘t remember when I started this book, so I just chose a random date. I lay it aside because I had over read the series and needed a break. Now that there‘s another new book, I‘m back in and catching up. As always, I am so invested in the characters that they feel like friends and family. Three Pines is once again the hub of bizarre circumstances. There‘s a dark mysterious figure, secrets, lies, murder, mayhem, and so much more.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Almond Gamache is head of the Surete, but he doesn‘t appear to be himself. Even commits perjury on the witness stand...or does he. Two mysteries intertwine through this trial and explodes in Three Pines.

Another good mystery in the series. Philosophical debate about conscience and end justifying the means.
Love the backstory of the characters, considering it‘s a quiet place in the middle of nowhere, it has a high murder rate!!

May finish Glass House today, got some work to do so that may scupper plans.
All Fall Down comes out Thursday and the Greg Iles should do in between, because as usual they‘re very big! 😁

Good mystery set in Quebec.

Moved outside to get some sun! Beautiful day here in south Louisiana with my outside kitty, Grace.

Plans for this morning and hopefully most of the day. This is the last day of my week off. 🙁

That beautiful orange kitten many of you have commented on has done it again! This is the second book he has spilled coffee all over. He takes his paw and slaps at the coffee. I happen to be in the other room at the time. He‘s lucky he‘s so cute! 😡😡

Heaven! I hope this is a good book. Baby Tiger is cozy and purring like crazy. My husband just brought my wine home and I have a fresh adventure in my lap. 💙💙💙🐾🍷📖

Have any of you ever gotten so attached turn audiobook narrator that the series just doesn‘t feel right without them? The Inspector Gamache series was narrated by Ralph Cosham for the first 10 books. When he passed away he was replaced by Robert Bathurst. Although he does an excellent job, it‘s just not the same. I‘ve given it three books now and it‘s still not working for me. I think I‘ll switch to the print for the next one.

OMG, another murder in Three Pines! I hate to think how much nefarious activity would go on there if it was more accessible 😂 Seriously, though, I really enjoyed this instalment in the series even if I wasn't completely convinced by all of it. I liked the way she told the story and I thought she handled the time shifts really well. Thought provoking re the role of conscience in the criminal justice system. Do the ends ever justify the means?

Indeed. Your conscience is for your own actions, not to police the actions of others.

The small town of three pines becomes the center of another investigation when a mysterious figure appears in town. Goes deep into how Gamache is trying to tackle his new responsibilities and moral questions about decisions. Most of it takes place in a courtroom so has a more procedural feel than some of the other Gamache mysteries. Love it as always and am pacing myself so I don‘t catch up with Ms. Penny and still have more to read.

I was right. Not my cup of tea.

I was going to give it 50 pages, but I opened page 35, read two sentences, and mentally went “oh my god I DON‘T CARE.” 😐

I‘ve never read a Louise Penny book before. Didn‘t sound like my cup of tea. But my friend says there‘s a character in this book whose entire job is to follow people around silently while dressed as the Grim Reaper. I, too, love dressing up, walking, and not talking to people, so I‘m hoping to pick up some career tips.

I loved this installment of the Inspector Gamache mysteries! Some of the earlier ones were a little slow to get started (for me) but this one hooked me from the start. I loved the way she structured it, the mystery kept me guessing, and there was a creepiness that made me want to read it fast! I enjoy where she‘s taken the characters. I have one more book before I‘m caught up with the series in time to read the new one in August. #CozyintheSun

Have you ever read a French/Canadian mystery? I have, and I really enjoyed it! It reminded me of Leavenworth, WA so I included some of our pictures. This story held my attention rather well. It had great character development, and even a duck ♡ I definitely recommend Glass Houses by Louise Penny for anyone wanting to read a mystery.

I finished this audiobook yesterday while painting my craft room. This is the 13th book in the series and I‘ve read them all except for # 14 (the ebook of which came through on my library holds yesterday). I love the Inspector Gamache series and wish I could live in Three Pines, but I felt the one rambled on a bit too much and dragged a bit. Also I didn‘t get enough of the Three Pines good feels in this one.

I‘m spending my 3-day weekend painting the room that will become my sewing / craft room. This is a great opportunity to finish the 5 hours left on my audiobook of the tagged title!

I‘m bingeing Glass Houses on audiobook trying to finish before my library ebook hold of Kingdom of the Blind comes in (which should be any day now). Also still working my way through An Echo in the Bone (Outlander book 7).

These are the most beautifully written and emotionally devastating mysteries. These characters live on after each story is finished. You couldn‘t pay me enough to live in Three Pines. The streets of Chicago are safer by far. There are no obvious answers here. There are people with strengths and weaknesses, loves and hatreds. There are people who feel their last option is murder.

This is why I love Louise Penny‘s books.
