Starting BOOK2 of this magnificent series!!!
Starting BOOK2 of this magnificent series!!!
This one was wasn't as good as the first. Still good, but not quite as good as I remember it being.
Tons of witty lines that don‘t add up to much of a story. Adams must have amused himself quite a bit.
“You guys are so unhip it‘s a wonder your bums don‘t fall off.”
""...as a result of an argument with the ghost of my great grand-father. No sooner had I got there that my former self, the one that operated on my brain, popped into my head and said 'Go see Zarniwoop'...
"Mr. Beeblebrox, sir," said the insect in awed wonder, "you are so weird you should be in movies."
"Yeah," said Zaphod patting the thing on a glittering pink wing, "and you, baby, should be in real life.""
I can understand why some people might not like this as much as the beloved first book. It's not as wacky, hectic or quotable but the sly Adam's humor is still there in force. From a visit to Milliways (the restaurant of the title) to the true ancestors of man on Earth, it's a rollicking joyride. 4💥💥💥💥 1/4
2nd book finished for #SuperSeptember readathon @Andrew65 @EadieB
Now on to Book 3: Life, The Universe and Everything
Ford, Arthur, Zaphod, and Trillian are back for more universal wackiness. They are avoiding capture and death. Zaphod has a mission but he can‘t remember what it is. Just a fun romp through the galaxy. Although I was disappointed that Trillian didn‘t have anything to do. She was so resourceful in the first book.
Having just finished the first book I am so excited to start this one!!! I love the silliness and the adventure in the first book and this one seems taking right off from the first. #42 #TheRestaurantAtTheEndOfTheUniverse #longtitle #Ford #Vogons🤢

Day 15: Stars (which I'm obsessed with)
The restaurant at the end of the universe by Douglas Adams. 💖🌟✨💫👽
I love Douglas Adams quick wit and quirky way of looking at things. This is chalk full of British humor, peppered with real moments of wisdom, and creative sci-fi predicaments. The characters are wild and out there, and only seem fitting for the wild ride the plot of the book takes you on.
This is the second in the Hitchhiker‘s series, and I‘m very much looking forward to reading the ones that follow 🚀🤖🍽👽
Weird af, man. But I liked it (just not as much as hitchhikers)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - absolutely bonkers. The first book I enjoyed the how bizarre and well put together it was, however I think book number 2 feels as though it took a step too far as it felt difficult to remember/follow the story at times. That being said, I still enjoyed the book and will continue to finish the saga...now, where can I buy my next pair of shoes?
Fun but the early parts don't stick in the memory like the first one. I had completely forgotten about the Frogstar scenes. I only remembered the scenes in the restaurant and the B Fleet coming to Earth.
I enjoyed this much more in print than in audio. I think I‘m going to have to watch the miniseries again soon!
« The major problem [of time travel] is quite simply one of grammar »
« The event will be described differently according to whether you are talking about it from the standpoint of your own natural time, from a time in the further future, or a time in the further past »
« the term ‘Future Perfect‘ has been abandoned since it was discovered not to be »

The phrase “at the edge of the unknown” made me think of the tagged book.
“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.”
I had to bail on the audio. I love Martin Freeman, but the American accent he used for Zaphod was incredibly grating, and this book spends a LOT of time with Zaphod. Would have liked to hear Mark Wing-Davey (Zaphod from the 1981 miniseries) narrate it instead. I did like the voice of Gargravarr and the Vogon though.
The sequel to the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy". As much as I loved the first book, I did not get as much enjoyment for this one.

As the first one of the series, this book is very funny and at equal parts insightful and incredibly absurd. Can't wait to read the third book of this "trilogy of five"
We rather have the Earth "covered with tar, full of smoke and short of fish" because it is better than the uncomfortable hassle of thinking about all the disadvantages that come with many of our every day decisions and (God forbid!) than taking responsibility for them
I think this series is overrated and each book is worse than the last. the first one was the best
A fun continuation of the Hitchhiker series. I laughed out loud a couple times.
Started this yesterday. I need some humor after some of the books I‘ve been reading and of course with all that‘s going on.

Just as good as the first! I can‘t get enough of these books!
What and where is the RESTAURANT AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE you ask!!!
Well here is your answer, and the restaurant is called MILLIWAYS!!!
Here you can meet and dine with a fascinating cross-section of entire population of space and time whilst watching the whole of creation explode!!
The show #restaurantontheedge did an episode in my town and they screwed it up. Lois Lane antiques is in another town. Also the designer didn't do anything. She painted it darker blue. I checked the website and it's the same menu they have had since taking it over. I sure hope they got good exposure at least.
A solo business trip = reading time!
I made it about 1/3 through this one on my way back to San Antonio today. Since I'm here alone, I can hibernate for a few hours & finish it up this week.
I did better than I expected - 38 books, 1 of those an audio book. This was a very mixed month with great books I loved and also such I really didn't like. But I've finished my #Popsugarchallenge2019 which I'm happy about.
Sadly, I wasn't really able to participate in #LetsTravelAugust 😞
See you in September!

Listening to one of my favourite books while I work on my knitting project 🎧🤖💗
Not as much fun as the 1st book in the series but still highly entertaining.

“I am so hip I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.” The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Douglas Adams
Hanging out with the lovely Lulu this evening while settling down to read this. 😻 #CatsOfLitsy
"Why can‘t people just learn to live together in peace and harmony?” said Arthur.
Ford gave a loud, very hollow laugh.
“Forty-two!” he said with a malicious grin. “No, doesn‘t work. Never mind."
“How can I tell that the past isn't a fiction designed to account for the discrepancy between my immediate physical sensations and my state of mind?”
The second book in the series. Honestly the plot takes a backseat to the jokes mostly but I still enjoyed this adventure!
I don't need this existential crisis right now Doug!
