I‘m slowly making my way through this one in 20-minute bites each night, while my kids do their evening reading time for school. Wow, Henry Ford was such a crank. And SO SO SO on the autism spectrum. Between him, and Dr. Kellogg up at the Battle Creek Sanatarium…what the heck was going on up there, Michigan? Also, Ford reminds me of H. Ross Perot, but with antisemitism and paranoid xenophobia. #readingtheamericas #brazil

Mehso-so

I really enjoy nonfiction that reveals the inside story of an institution, and this tale of Ford‘s dance with doom (and ultimate resurrection) in the late 2000s is well-told and full of juicy details about the company‘s ridiculously toxic, dysfunctional corporate culture. The depiction of turnaround expert Alan Mulally borders on hagiography at times. Recommended for anyone interested in the auto industry or leadership in extreme situations.

Living the dream 😅🐾🌲📚😍

Dilara Can I ask where you found the picture? It's very pretty, and the girl reminds me of someone. If it's taken from a book, I'd quite like to look at it... 11mo
Soubhiville Yes!!! 🙌 11mo
AllDebooks @Dilara unfortunately not, I found it on Facebook. I'll do some research x 11mo

Day 8 of the #wintergames photo challenge - Wildlife

I‘m sharing some pictures of animals that showed up in my backyard near the bird feeders.

Photo 1 - This is a Cooper‘s Hawk. This picture is from the day before Thanksgiving this year. My birds saw him and they all flew off.

Photos 2,3 & 4 - These are Black Bellied Whistling Ducks. These pictures are from August.

#GhostsOfXmas

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) This isn‘t the first time this Hawk has been in my backyard. The first time he visited was 1 year ago. A year ago, I was sitting outside watching the birds eat because I fed them and he flew down on the ground and got one of my birds. It freaked me out when I saw it. I liked when the Ducks visited but when my dog saw them in the backyard, she lost her mind. She wanted to scare them off because she doesn‘t like big birds. (edited) 12mo
BookwormAHN Fantastic, my dog would have lost her mind at those ducks 🩶 12mo

This is my most recent stop on my quest read a biography of every President. My thought that President Ford, our only unelected President, was amongst our most decent and ethical was bolstered by this book. Very interesting read if this sort if history is your thing.

Bookwormjillk Thanks! His house when he was a congressman is in my neighborhood and I‘ve been wanting to read a book about him. 1y
Ericalambbrown @Bookwormjillk I felt like this was a wonderfully even handed biography. There‘s a lot about his time in Congress, so give it a go maybe! I plan to visit his libraries after reading this. 💕 1y

Bookwormjillk @Ericalambbrown we went to Grand Rapids this summer and it was super interesting. Even my kids liked it. (My 12 year old daughter said “I love a coverup” 🤣) 1y
Ericalambbrown @Bookwormjillk Hahaha!!!! That‘s funny 1y
fredthemoose I‘m on the same quest! Any favorites so far? 1y
Ericalambbrown @fredthemoose this book was fantastic and it‘s about one of our lesser know presidents, James A Garfield 1y
Ericalambbrown @fredthemoose Sure! This is not a comprehensive biography but it‘s s fun little book about Truman‘s post presidency years. 1y
fredthemoose @Ericalambbrown Fun! I just listened to the McCullough book about Truman a couple of months ago. This sounds like a fun add-on. 1y
Ericalambbrown @fredthemoose the McCullough Truman was fantastic! 1y

Guinn's book is about some of America's most popular historic figures from the early 20th century, getting together for both pleasure and publicity. His work is a good read and captures well the personalities of Ford, Edison, Firestone, and Burroughs. It also is a good reminder that historic figures are complex - capable of both genius and folly or charity and hate. I recommend this book.

This was a fantastic read. As a convert to Ford during the Mulally era, it was a very well written and in depth look at how bad it really was at the Blue Oval.

❤️ Grandin. This book explores Ford‘s Midwest-style company town/rubber plantation in the Amazon. Fascinating to read alongside Capital, which my partner & I are currently tackling. He shared this quote with me: “Of course, we have all read, & all do read Capital…every day, transparently, in the dramas & dreams of our history, in its disputes & conflicts, in the defeats & victories of the workers‘ movement...” — Louis Althusser, Reading Capital
