❤️ Rick Bragg. Always so self-deprecating and fiercely loyal and loving of his culture. 😆
Listening to this collection. I love how Rick Bragg's career is a continuous love letter to the South and his family 💖
Hey all,
I am still around and reading even though I've been extremely quiet.
Lots of life stuff but I'm surviving.
I love Rick Braggs visual scene setting.
Getting reacquainted with my Southern roots on this lovely fall day.
Welcome @cjr to Litsy! Loving this time together on our southern journey, listening to this new favorite author, eating great food, and creating memories.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
The always wonderful @Librarybelle is celebrating a milestone of reaching 200K in Litfluence (way to go!) by hosting a #200KGiveaway!
I would love to read the tagged book because...well...I can relate to the title. 🤣🤣 Oh yeah...and Rick Bragg is hilarious! 😊
Thanks for the offer and congrats! 🎉🎉🎉💐💐
Switching gears back to Rick Bragg. He‘s so funny. 😂
This was great on audio as Rick Bragg reads it himself. This is a collection of essays that he‘s written over the years for different magazines. I have yet to read any of his other books but will definitely seek them out as he‘s such a wonderful storyteller. I think I‘ll check out the audiobooks as I could listen to him talk all day!
I‘m torn on my favorite audiobook to pick for the #bfc photo challenge. But if @wanderinglynn is going to force me to pick I‘ll choose My Southern Journey. (Goal 6 books, 5 read after 4 weeks.)
I absolutely loved this as an audiobook. Rick Bragg is an excellent author and reader, and I will look for more by him.
Week one #bfc check in:
15,000 steps a day- ✅
(Yesterday was only about 9k but I made up for it on the other days. A work retreat kept me in meetings all day yesterday. Life happens.)
Vitamins every day- ✅
2 audiobooks read while walking/moving (goal is 6)
My Southern Journey
An Incomplete Revenge (Maisie Dobbs)
Looking forward to next week when the weather should be better and I don‘t have to travel
Pictured is a pretty pond I saw on my walk
Today was so busy I hit my step count without trying. And maybe I washed my vitamins down with some ice cream, but at least I took them!
I‘m loving this audiobook and am sad it‘s almost over.
#bfc
Pictured: a tiny bird egg I saw on my way home from dropping the kids at school this morning
Today was one of those days where I had to drag myself out to meet my goal, and then I sat down as soon as possible. Oh well, I got it done.
Seen on my walk: a random shoe on a fence.
#bfc @wanderinglynn
I had to take three shorter walks today in order to dodge the monsoons sweeping through. I would have never made the effort if it weren‘t for the #bfc so thanks @wanderinglynn
I‘m really loving this book too! It‘s great on audio.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This collection, largely culled from Southern Living, also contains articles originally published in Sports Illustrated, GQ, and more. Bragg‘s stories of Alabama and New Orleans, food, family, and SEC football together form a nice little love letter to the south. His soothing drawl - I listened to the audio - and wry wit are a delightful combination. He writes with such love and humor. I adore him.
If you are from any Southern state like Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi or if you're Cajun, this hits close to home. @JoScho @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @kaye
"I have seldom felt helpless in my life. I hold to the hillbilly standard that there is no situation so hopeless that, through perseverance, I cannot make worse."
I need me some more Rick Bragg audiobooks stat! Loved listening to these heartfelt, heartwarming stories of the South. I am not a southerner, but I sure did enjoy these yarns.
1) Turkey
2) spuds and gravy [if I can make it without lumps...gravy is always a crap shoot)
3) Cornbread dressing
4) Lemon Meringue Pie

Spent the last day and a half with a terrible migraine 😫and didn‘t get a chance to post what I picked up at the Louisiana Book Festival. Great books but even better was getting to hang out with @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @Slajaunie and @thevictoriousone . It was a great day, thank you ladies!
This made me holler.
I haven't been able to find this in the library or bookstore at home but now that I'm in Kentucky for a few months I found it at Barnes and Noble. :)
Back to muffins and short stories on this relaxing Sunday.
Lazy Sunday reading short stories. ❤️watching this bull stargaze from her couch. 🐶
On Sunday's I enjoy short stories with my coffee. ☕️
"It's not hard to do something," he said, "when you ain't guessing. "
Reading aloud to my mom in the hospital. One day I'll have to let Rick Bragg know that he was the only thing that could make my mom and I laugh together in such grim circumstances. 💕
We're all set up and ready for the Tennessee Williams Festival tomorrow.
Stumbled onto this batch of yarns while looking for something available on Overdrive. His audio version is excellent, just like having a family reunion and having a conversation with a cousin. Memories of Moms, good food, fishing and childhood delivered in his Alabama drawl. Do yourself a favor and listen when you need a break from the outside world.
Comfort reads for the holiday season! I described this book as "sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair with your uncles who are drinking whiskey, and listening to them all talk about how much they love their mama." Happy Holidays, from the imperfect South I can't help but still find beauty in, to your home.
I wonder if, north of here, they might even run out of stories someday. It may seem silly, but it is cold up there, too cold to mosey, to piddle, to loafer, and summer only lasts a week and a half. The people spit the words out so fast when they talk, like they are trying to discard them somehow, banish them, rather than relish the sound and the story. We will not run out of them here. We talk like we are tasting something.
Great bathroom read bc the chapters are 2 pages on average and stand on their own. Must-read for people who understand coleslaw, tomato sandwiches, and sausage gravy.
Loved these stories! Told in his southern voice, the listener slides smoothly into the nuances of southern living; past and present colliding, realigning and moving on.
I finished this one a couple of days ago. Loved it. If you are from the South or know someone who is, you will relate to at least one thing in this book. Bragg delves into different cultural aspects of Southerners by telling us stories of his travels throughout the South.
I have a pretty long drive back and forth to college, so I've been listening to this to pass the time. It's read by Rick Bragg and his accent is great. His southern journey has me contemplating my own. When I'm listening, it feels like home.
