I thought I could read this book (the first in a trilogy) and then quietly move on but I got sucked in and have thus added to my growing problem of series I have started and need to finish. Min gets murdered on her birthday every 2 years like clockwork by the same guy and wakes up in the same place as if nothing happened. At the same time there‘s a huge asteroid hurtling towards Earth. Lots going on here but I couldn‘t stop reading. 4⭐️
Since her 8th birthday, Min has been murdered by a mysterious man every 2 years, but always wakes up unharmed.
The premise of this looked intriguing & I quite liked the Virals series the author co-wrote, so I gave it a go in spite of mixed reviews. Glad I did as I really enjoyed it. After an initial slow start, things really take off & it‘s worth sticking with. 4🌟
Wow! A terrifying end-of-days scenario depicted in a YA Hunger Games-esque world.
The intro shows MC Min's murder-5th time she's been hunted & killed by a mysterious man. The bigger mystery is not the identity of the stranger who comes back every other birthday to kill her, but why she comes back to life. The most recent kill coincides with the day NASA will announce whether or not an asteroid will smack into Earth ending all life on the planet.
Lord of the Flies meets the apocalypse, with a razor sharp, fast-paced plot, & a gripping mystery that pulls you in. Though the writing was a bit clumsy at times, I loved Min & Tack, who were rebellious & fierce. I liked Noah despite myself — his lack of spine & the way he kept feeling sorry for himself despite his privilege was annoying, but still his character arc was compelling, especially at the end. An explosive, thrilling ride. ★★★★☆.
Another pick! I‘ve done well to be reading books I‘ve entirely adored so far!
Min has been killed on every even birthday, murdered horrifically and waking the next day in the same opening without even a scratch. Hiding the pain of experiencing her own murders, as well as being in a financially struggling household, Min is trying to figure out her life, as well as waiting to find out whether the world around her is going to be obliterated.
#SpringHasSprung (kinda, sorta, not really)
1. The forecast says snow starting around 6:45 (which was 5 minutes ago). I haven‘t looked outside, because I don‘t want it to be true, which is why the parenthetical after the hashtag.
2. I don‘t think I have a spring-season fave dish.
3. I plan to take it with me when I travel to NC tomorrow. (Sadly, not a fun trip, but a work trip).
Yay! I got #bookmail today from the awesome @LibrarianRyan for having a #messydesk (in addition to the normal desk stuff, I also found two packs of spare Christmas lights). Being messy pays!!!
And I haven‘t read this book ... yet. It looks intriguing, so it‘s next on my tbr list. Thank you 🙏🏻 R.A.!
An intriguing concept and an easy read for me, but it could have been shorter. I‘m sensing a love triangle that hasn‘t been revealed yet, so that annoys me a bit. She could be less angry, he could be less carefree, and the other he needs to wake up and man up. But, the beginning and the end were reasonably captivating and I look forward to the next book. I will say that I went in know it was a stand-alone & that probably made me not hate the book.
This was one strange book. I quite liked it at first, and the concept was pretty fascinating, but it took too long for anything to be revealed, and then around the last quarter of the book it felt like a whole new book had started, in which everything needed to be explained. A lot of things stayed quite vague though...
Power just went out in north east Atlanta, time to break out the ebooks and solar chargers. Stay safe if you're getting any of this crazy weather! #currentlyreading #readingoutthestorm #hurricanirma
Holy crap this book was such a great pick me up after the crappy one I finished before it. The story was riviting and the characters were very well done. I can't wait to read the second one when it comes out!
I think this is my most #minimalistcovers except for a few galleys that are at work. #jubilantjuly
i'm super excited to read this gorgeous book and you can't see it in this photo BUT IT HAS STAINED PAGES 👀👌🏼 (umm yes please!)
what are you currently reading? ✨
Just started this literally 10 minutes ago. It sounds really intriguing and it looks to be a weird mixture of sci-fi/mystery/doomsday/fantasy 😂

Interesting read... it had such a cool idea and so much potential! I would've loved it more but the ending was kind of a disappointment. To each his own though!
Ugh! Bailed at 1/3 in. The story sounds interesting but the writing is so boring and slow. For a mystery, conspiracy, maybe sci-fi book, you need to grab my attention and make me want to find out who is doing the bad stuff. The main girl comes off as kinda dumb. Who forgets and then suddenly remembers things nonstop when it's suddenly relevant? It took her way too long to finally think "maybe all this weird stuff is related?" Of course it is!
Has anyone else read this? I'm having a really hard time getting through it and thinking about bailing. Is it worth it to push through?
Interesting idea and beautiful cover...the beautiful cover may have influenced this purchase along with all the blurbs--this book is blurbed by everyone imaginable on the back of the book so 🤞
The riddle of my entire life, explained within these pages. Somewhere.
I nodded. Didn‘t say something stupid like, “It‘ll get better with time,” or “Think of the good stuff.” All the well-intentioned crap I‘d heard after my mother died. A grieving person needs to grieve. It‘s better to just be there.
There were a thousand things I wanted to scream in his face, but the words piled up in my head like a freeway crash.
The Internet invited every crackpot with a theory into my kitchen, each certain they knew the “real” reason. Aliens. God. The Iranians. Thor. All were “attacking” our planet, along with too many others to count. It was the tinfoil-hat community‘s finest hour.
I wasn‘t crazy. I was being played. But wasn‘t that even worse? At least crazy made sense.
Nemesis. I considered the word. The inescapable agent of someone‘s downfall. A long-standing rival; an archenemy.
I‘m not afraid of much. Not after what I‘ve been through. And I forgive as little as I forget.
I guess pretending everything‘s okay is more comfortable than admitting things really, truly might not be.
The world might be about to end, but what did I care? My world ended all the time.
I paused a moment, staring into the mirror. Saw the ghost of my mother, thirty years ago. I looked away. Some things you don‘t want to see.
I finished Nemesis by @brendan.reichs and my head exploded. Not at all how I saw this book ending. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. What an evil mastermind you'd have to be to write a conspiracy like this one. Hats off to you, sir! Now I will be holding all future books to this level of mind blowing-ness. Such a clever, witty, exceptional book. I eagerly await book two. •

Ugh. The premise of this book had me so excited, but it was pretty slow. Only the last 40-50 pages were interesting. Here's my real problem with it- there were a few times the characters did things that made no sense. The author should give the reader a reason why the characters can't do the thing any reasonable person would do. It's annoying.
#SparklingMayBookishDreams #day5 #GreenAndWhiteBooks I love a green & white colour scheme,a lot of my house is painted in those colours because green is my favourite colour. It's really difficult to find a nice green bookspine though, black & white being the prominent colours with red a very close 3rd. I would love to have a large swathe of my shelves loaded in shades of green, but till then these will have to do. BTW, Nemesis is a book to checkout!
Is it ok that I want to automatically knock a star off the review just because this line is in it? Horrible, I know, but I'm so, so sick of this line. Why does everyone in YA have so much trouble breathing? Argh!
"And that Thomas doesn't want to talk about his bruises"
Damn you're hitting my deep feels!!!

Awesome thing to read before you start a new book! Which, by the way, is super good so far. 🙂
