I have two books in progress, but the #bookspin and #doublespin numbers came out today. This is my #doublespin and is all I want to read. I think I‘m going to make myself read at least a few chapters of one of the other books, but I will probably cave and start Nero later today.
Nero starts off wanting to avoid becoming like his formidable mother who poisoned her way through husbands & to power with abandon, but he is gradually seduced (in more ways than one - eek!) to Agrippina's way of thinking. When he becomes Emperor he tries to throw off her influence & a battle of wills begins. It was a good read but there was just something missing for me so I rate it 3.5🌟

I‘m diving into my second #newyearwhodis selection from @Itchyfeetreader Starting 506 pages worth of book now, I probably won‘t finish before my reading life obligations overtake me (Feb-Aug) but I can try!
I‘ve been meaning to read a Margaret George novel as she‘s a fellow Madison resident. While Historical biography is not my usual genre, I really enjoyed the care, research, and thought that the author put into the novel. I will definitely read the sequel!
Another strong first person historical novel from Margaret George. Not only does she bring 1st century Rome vividly to life she also repositions Nero from the degenerate we mostly know him as to a significantly more nuanced character. Can‘t wait for the second part! (Photo taken in 2004 of the Forum from the Palatine Hill and is one of the first digital photos I ever took!)
I can‘t decide if I‘m more excited for the book or the bookmark #finally #mypreciouses
I stole this from @Graciouswarriorprincess :)

So excited to finally get my hands on her newest book! I love Margaret George‘s works! I have three more of her books in line to be read as well.
Oh wow 🙌🙌 awesome historical fiction. Can't wait for the next one!! This has busted a few Nero myths that have obviously been in my brain from popular culture. Have been lost down the internet rabbit hole reading up on him. Great stuff.
I have had a 3 day reading binge and finished 7 books. I have literally done nothing else. It's been great 😀
Obviously taking off the tbr shelf yesterday meant I needed to read this. Just starting.

Some historical fiction and non-fiction still on the tbr!
I call this photo "books I saw in Barnes and Noble tonight that I think @mrsmarch should know about and potentially add to her library holds". #thatswhatfriendsarefor #theymovedallthebooksaroundinburlington
Margaret George does not disappoint in this newest book. I thoroughly enjoyed her reimagining of the life of Nero told from his perspective. 👍
My full review of this book is on my blog: https://missbookishgirl.com/2017/04/16/book-review-the-confessions-of-young-nero...
Margaret George is one of the best historical fiction writers but I found this book a bit tedious.

I have always hoped there was more to Nero than just "fiddling while Rome burned". After reading this and the afterward where Margaret George provides all of her sources, I am much more interested in Nero as an emperor and not just an evil figure in history. I realize this is historical fiction but I believe that the author dedicates an enormous amount of time to research and it has certainly piqued my interest. I want to know more!
Happy Mothers Day (UK). Gifts from my children 😀
I love this. It also makes me ache for Nero because happiness is so fleeting for him.
Poor Nero. I am trying not to snicker at just how literal the sibyl was
Nero has no idea the can of worms that is about to be opened.
Agrippina is awful! Worse than I had considered; it is no wonder poor Nero is remembered as a bit mad.
The weight of the Empire is mighty, especially with all of Agrippina's scheming.
The tension is mounting between Nero and Agrippina (seen here in the statue she commissioned upon his ascendance to emperor).
I am super excited to start this novel! I have loved just about all of Margaret George's books and can't wait to see how she brings a failing Rome to life.
"Let them call me cruel. Better that than dead." ~Nero
Library Haul! I just went to pick up the rest of my holds (Slave to Sensation and Caraval), but darned if the rest of these beauties didn't demand to come home with me as well!
New #bookreview at www.theirregularreaderblog.wordpress.com! Confessions of Young Nero is a stunning historical fiction book from the queen of the genre, Margaret George!
So excited to see a new Margaret George coming out this month !!
Not bad for February!
I adore Margaret George and historical fiction. This new novel of hers was wonderful! She has attempted to make Nero palatable to today's readers and erase the stigma of his notorious past. While he still came across delusional and narcissistic, she did a nice job showing his artistic and "humble" side to an audience that has been led to believe he was a monster. ??
One of my favorite authors has a new novel coming out... had to pre-order it! Thank you, Christmas gift card! 💳😬
