Had to stop reading this in bed last night because I was laughing too hard and keeping my husband awake. 😂

Today was not a brilliant reading day....

I bailed on Emma (see previous post)
I started reading my set text instead (that didn't last long!)
I tried All The What Ifs as I had it on my Kindle. I didn't like the style of writing so I gave up on that pretty quickly.

I ended up reading Geek Girl for the 5th time instead - I can always rely on that to make me laugh 😂

One month ago, my little sister gave me the series to read. And I am delighted she did.

A story about geeky Harriet, and how she becomes a model - the weirdest one.

A funny, geeky read, I couldn't stop giggling. A perfect book for the teens, and a perfect relaxation for the adults.

I liked this book in theory... The plot is light and amusing, the main character smart (though almost impossibly awkward), the writing fun... my problem is Harriet's father. I don't think I have ever read a more immature, ridiculous, poor caricature of a person. He was so jarring that I'm not sure I'll bother reading the otter books in the series.

Geek Girl 🤓 by Holy Smale #livrelollipop

I'm on All That Glitters now in my quest to finish all the Geek Girl books before Sunday - when I get to chair the Holly Smale event at Cardiff Children's Literature Festival! I can do it! 💪📚

I really did not like this at all. Which is rare for me - I usually take pleasure in finding some redeeming feature, however small, in even the most woeful examples of tedious tosh.

This had none. Weak characters, cringey humour and clichés a go-go. Yes, I am a good 30 years too old for it (if such a concept exists) but when my daughter is 11 I hope she's reading something more rewarding than this.

With the caveat 'I am not this book's intended readership' I have to say that, so far, I have found this fluffy and a little silly. I've never been a bailer - could this book have the honour of changing all that?

I love this series.
