I‘ve had this for ages (it‘s 2nd in trilogy), and I‘m so glad I got the push from #DoubleSpin to continue on. It‘s been a minute since I devoured the first one (and loved it!) so it took me a chapter or two to refresh my memory on where we were at. There‘s fantasy, romance, suspense and lots of action here. Also wonderful world-building and ditto on the character development (growth/maturity). My only con was a repetition of a theme, Cat and ⬇️

robinb her team find danger (in the form of magical creatures/villains), Cat takes the lead to vanquish, gets in over her head and is grievously wounded, is aided by her team and makes a victorious comeback to save the day. I know this was used to illustrate the bond/closeness of her team (“family”), but it could get a bit predictable. ⬇️ (edited) 4y
robinb The romance is steamy, but Cat and Griffin are deeply committed and very much in love. I really enjoyed this, and it was exciting to return to their world. If interested, I do recommend beginning with the first book A Promise of Fire. I look forward to the conclusion of the trilogy. 4.25/5⭐️ @TheAromaofBooks 4y

This second installment has more heat and action, but the pacing doesn't quite work as well as the opening novel. I think because everything happens back-to-back, the story didn't 'breathe' as much for me. Cat and Griffin consolidate their power, defeat several challenges/enemies in multiple settings, and receive help from the Gods when they need it most.

I continue to enjoy this series, which is an interesting mix of fantasy/Greek mythology/romance. Cat, the heroine, is a great character and she and Griffin are easy to root for. At times there are amusing bits of dialogue or thoughts from Cat, which I would like to see more of in the third book. A large portion of this book is dedicated to battle scenes, some of which I skimmed. Overall these are fun and I‘m looking forward to the final book!

“Real freedom is answering only to yourself, and being responsible for no one. Since that‘s a moral vacuum, none but the truly wicked are ever truly free.”
I confess I am not reading The Kingmaker Chronicles, which is romance/fantasy, expecting thought-provoking nuggets of wisdom. Love is certainly a responsibility. But must freedom be only for the wicked???

Just finished reading all three books of the Kingmaker Chronicles and really enjoyed them. They are adventure/fantasy/romance set in a world with Ancient Greek gods. It ended up ver satisfactorily but I could see room for further adventures for various characters. I have no idea if Bouchet has plans for that.

Finished my first book of #25inFive! (I was about 2/3 of the way done when I started the readathon) I enjoy the heroine, writing, and world of this series (Greek mythology!) but there's definitely some issues with sexism and I'm not a fan of the male main character. I do want to see how the trilogy ends so at some point I'll probably read the last book.

Book 2 of the Kingmaker Chronicles picks up in Sinta, where Cat & Griffin are working out their relationship and plans for world domination. 2 is very reminiscent of Ilona Andrews‘s Kate Daniels series and the Hunger Games trilogy. A young woman must be persuaded to abandon personal safety and engage in violence for the greater good. I still like the characters, though Griffin has the least development. Still interested in the 3rd book. #romantsy

Beachesnbooks I feel like this series borrows quite a bit from Kate Daniels! Glad it's not just me 7y
Jaya @Beachesnbooks definitely. I wonder how much of this is publisher pressure to hit some trend... 7y

I didn‘t enjoy as much as the first one but still plan on finishing the trilogy.

melissanorr I've heard very mixed things about the second book so I am very hesitant to read it! 7y
moarbookspleaze @melissanorr my recommendation would be to skim the battle scenes. There are many and they are long. 7y

Went into this one a little leery, mixed reviews had me concerned I wouldn't like it and I really liked the first one. But, I like it!! Cat's inner dialog has me laughing out loud when I read (usually during lunch... usually in my office where the whole office can here me Gah!). I enjoy the twist on Greek mythology that is blended in and the side characters are great (Can't wait for more on Flynn and Jocasta and Kato oh what is in store for you??)

Second in the series, the banter and relationship between them is heartwrenching. The character development is amazing, the main girl Cat had a bit of a frustrating personality. But it's understandable from what she has endured. She is closed off, but she always put everyone that she loves in front. The romance is so adorable, but it's not overpowering. It also intertwines magic through out. #magic #power #romance #danger #fighting #fantasy

I still needed more escapism and threw myself into the sequel immediately. Still good! Entertaining, escapism, more romance, more Greek Mythology. Somewhat predictable- but in an entertaining way. This is exactly the read I needed. Can't wait for the third book.

I greatly enjoyed this romantic fantasy. It's a good bridge book for the trilogy - the plot moves ahead substantially and we know what the final confrontation and goal will be in the next book. As in the first book, I enjoy the use of Greek mythology in the world-building. Good romance too.

Stellar continuation of this #fantasyromance series by Amanda Bouchet. The heroine has grown out of her immaturity and is ready to accept the mantle of leadership. #bookbloggers #romantsy #fantasy

The plot of this book is incredible. I loved the storyline immensely. I was a little disconcerted by the different style of writing, in the sense that sometimes the scenes felt disjointed, where I felt in the first one everything flowed really well. That said, not reading transition scenes might just be something I can get behind. 😂 Highly recommend! Also, Griffin is 😍😍#romantsy

Kat is sarcastic and her humor keeps me entertained. I really enjoy the comradery she has with the Beta Team. I'm also a fan of Griffin. I just love that there are tons of characters that are just really entertaining and I'd love to read more about it. Also, the journey Kat and Griffin went through during the book was never dull. Overall, there was a lot of action, a lot of sexy time and one great story.

An action packed, knife wielding romance about a young woman overcoming her past and finding a true love that is more powerful that she ever thought possible. Where fighting for what you believe in may change for the better. You just need to believe.

Breathtaking actions, nail biting scenes, violent fights "to the death," and then the healing, resting, sweet moments between Griffin and Cat.

Griffin wants to rule all three places and make them one. Cat now finally understood what the prophecy was all about and her role. Not to destroy, but to unite.

At the end, they became King and Queen of two...and then there was one. I can't wait for the next book. #fantasy

So the first chapter was a little problematic (a few red flags when it came to Griffin's response to Cat's secret) but once the story picked up the pace, especially around the Agon Games, it was really enjoyable. I wouldn't put it in the same league as CL Wilson or CS Pacat, but it was fun.

I was conflicted about picking up book two in this series because the romance in book one is pretty rapey. BUT I LOVE (adore!!) the world that Bouchet has created. Still a so-so read - better romance, still somewhat meh writing, still a amazing world. I still think it's worth the read for the world!

Earlier this week, I talked about my most anticipated 2017 releases. Breath of Fire was one of them, and I noticed it was available for request on NetGalley. As an international blogger, I rarely get approved for review copies so inagine my surprised when I was for this one! It's like a Christmas present. I started reading a few chapters immediately, and I have a feeling I'll keep reading until the end.
