December‘s #bookspin and #bookspinbingo is composed of half Christmas themed books and half Christmas presents for my mom, husband, three adult children, and niece. We‘ll see how many I get pre-read by the 25h. 😁 @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Literally one year my mom gave me a book and as I'm unwrapping it she says “but you can't take it home yet; I still have five chapters to go“ 😂 1d
BookNAround @TheAromaofBooks I love that! I was given book one year that was signed but missing its dust jacket. Turns out mom read the book and then let dad, who throws out all dust jackets, read it before wrapping it for me. 🤣 1d
BookNAround @TheAromaofBooks My daughter just reminded me of a book I gave her that she loathed. I didn‘t like it either but had bought it for her so gave it to her anyway. When she unwrapped it, she asked if it was good. I admitted I didn‘t like it but said I hoped she would. She‘ll never let me live it down since she thought it was terrible too. 😉 1d

Penny and Josephine Williamson appear to be sweet, little old ladies attended by their lovely nephew Archie but in actual fact they have a lot of secrets and history behind them, starting with their service in WWII and ending with a crazy caper in current day Paris. This was a delight to read and deeper than expected. Full review at http://booknaround.blogspot.com/2024/07/review-excitements-by-cj-wray.html

Hedgerow | Anne Leigh Parrish

Mehso-so

I really like Parrish‘s writing but this sequel to her novel an open door (lowercase intentional) is not her best. Her main character drifts along without much agency for too long and this resulted in me being frustrated by the story and its lassitude. I started this one sitting in bed last night. It‘s going in my husband‘s Christmas stocking. He was in bed next to me and never noticed the cover of the book. If he had, he‘d have known something was up because I am not a bourbon fan. Now I just have to finish it before he clocks what I‘m reading.

Kimzey We naively thought we could get our boss a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle for his retirement. 😂 The book might have been a good second option! Hope your husband enjoys his stocking stuffer! 🎄 1mo

Sitting here reading with Miss Gatsby. Her beard had to be shaved off because she was so matted from her new drooling problem. This revealed a growth of some sort on her jaw. We‘re hoping for an abscessed tooth because the alternatives are far worse (not that the tooth situation is good for a 14 year old pupper). I‘m just loving her while I can.

Once Upon a River | Diane Setterfield
post image
Pickpick

This moody, dreamy novel of a young mute child saved from drowning, the three missing girls she might be, the people who want her to be theirs, and those involved in saving her is very much a typical Setterfield novel. It is well written and centers the power of storytelling. The end is a bit quick but er all, this is well worth the read.
