So this is book adjacent. I watched this series of Netflix. Please tell me the books were no where near as awful as the Netflix series! After 2 episodes I started rage watching the rest. Oh my anticlimactic! And the dialogue ugh! The acting wasn‘t great either.
I would not recommend watching the series on Netflix.
Here is a pic of the only critter in my house not currently pissing me off.

Soubhiville I didn‘t hate the first book, but the second was a quick bail for me 2w
OrangeMooseReads @Soubhiville the story started with great potential but it went down hill fast. 2w
julesG Don't bother reading the books. I thought it was going to be a trilogy and read the first three books, book 3 was the weakest. Only to learn that the series continued. Read the other books last year and can't remember much, apart from my favourite character still not getting their own book/story told. 2w
See All 8 Comments
OrangeMooseReads @julesG that‘s disappointing. I‘m not sure how the author was able to more than 1 book out of the story let alone more than 3. 2w
julesG @OrangeMooseReads a friend ask the same question and I told her the same goes for Outlander. Somehow the authors make it work. 2w
Cuilin My daughter and I wanted something witchy to watch and we started it and then soon gave up. The dialogue was embarrassing. The idea was so good but poorly executed. 2w
zezeki I liked the 1st book the best, after that every book was a little weaker than the one before. 😅 2w
Sparklemn @Soubhiville Same. Sad. (edited) 2w

Pickpick

Set in a rural Minnesota town in the 50s. The body of one of the most hated men in the town is found in the river. Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies both to themselves and others.
This was a good story and the writing was good.

This could have been half as long as it was. Figured out the mysteries/twists fairly early on. Honestly it wasn‘t worth the effort of finding out how it played out.
This could have been a really good book however the author just tried to have too much going on.
Don‘t recommend

Another fantastic Kate Quinn. Set in the few weeks leading up to the 1906 San Fran earthquake and proceeding days and months. It follows 4 women from different backgrounds that come together for a common cause. The historical research is fabulous.

The Flint sit down strike(s) that got GM to allow the UAW in the plants. I huge part of Michigan history that doesn‘t get talked about much. Growing up in Michigan you know about sit down strikes in the auto industry most often in relation to Ford.
It was interesting and worth the read.
Recommend for history, auto industry, labor history.

Mehso-so

The premise of this is excellent, using confederate monuments specifically Nathan Bedford Forest‘s, to look at racism and how these monuments still affect.
For me it fell short somewhere along the line. Maybe it was the writing in general, or the way he told the story. I‘m not sure what it was exactly it just didn‘t work for me. I wanted this to be good and informative and thought provoking, parts were, but not enough.

Librarybelle I felt the same way about this. Such an important read, and yet it may have been the writing that made it a so-so read for me in the end. 5mo

Possibly unpopular opinion, I wasn‘t impressed. I finished with hopes of getting interested. I know it‘s magical and fantasy however I just couldn‘t see it. It was a little beyond what could be possible for me. The basis works she just doesn‘t execute it well. Some of the story felt forced and odd. There were things that weren‘t needed as well.
I can see why it was/is a popular book. I personally don‘t care for it and won‘t continue the series.

DGRachel Her writing just doesn‘t work for me. I‘ve tried several of her novels and I don‘t think I‘ve even managed to finish one. 5mo

Two life long friends move to London just before the blitz begins. A friend of Grace‘s late mother takes them in. Both dream of being shop girls and moving on from their pasts. Excellent book.
Mental health and feminism. Rebuilding yourself and understanding yourself.
Tendler told her story is a way that was easy to follow. I don‘t know if it was slightly sugar coated or more detail just wasn‘t necessary. I did get frustrated that she mentioned her divorce multiple times and yet we never get any story on that. We get the story on other men but not that one, it‘s odd to me.
Well written. Interesting.

merelybookish Great review! Her famous husband was conspicuously absent. I wonder if she signed an NDA as part of their divorce. Still, I think we are meant to infer that he is similar to all the men before him. 6mo
OrangeMooseReads @merelybookish I guess I need to do some googling. I wasn‘t aware he was famous. It‘s very likely that is the case though with the NDA. 6mo
OrangeMooseReads @merelybookish So that‘s the ex! Yeah, I‘m going to say the drugs and alcohol may have contributed to the divorce. I also feel like I haven‘t heard great things about him and women. 6mo

A lot happened in 1776 in the colonies and a lot didn‘t happen. Several of the key events that we think of for the Revolutionary War happened in 1776, and yet there was a lot of just moving men and planning.
This was easy to listen to and interesting. The focus was on Washington and what he did. I wish there had been less focus on him.
Over all good worth the time.
