Summer has predictably curbed my reading activities a bit. A but of a reading slump happens every year. But oh well.

I've mostly read non-fiction, did a reread on Darwin's On the Origin of Species which was lovely.

And here are some new anticipated releases and few good oldies. Autumn is going to be brutal, there are SO many awesome books coming up. 🙈

Uh so, did some book shopping. Again. 🙈

But in my defense been also reading a LOT, even if not the books I was planning to read. Oh the joys of being a mood reader and having the attention span of a duck. 🦆📚

Phew. I had a pretty hectic few weeks trying to make my escape for summer holiday. At last I made it, without biting anybody even, so, success!

Been reading lovely books, lots of nonfction by my beloved Richard Fortey and the like. And managed to reach my reading challenge goal so that's nice too. 📚🥳

This has been a weird reading year so far. I've mostly done soothing rereads and it's ok. On the other hand, there is a constant flow of interesting new books that I keep piling on my TBR (pictured above) and soon my TBR will reach the moon.

But since I'm a mood reader to the Extreme, we just have to go with the flow. 🤔

So. I went down the Patricia Wrede reread hole. Can't say I mind, dragons, melting wizards, and competent women wrapped with fairy tale references and light fun.

The only trouble is that now I want the glorious hardcover in the picture, it is so.. weird. I have a hardcover in finnish and an ebook, but oh I want that one. 🙈

I am utterly disappointed in my past self. I remember being actually disappointed in this and now I'm bewildered how that could've happened. So weird how reading experiences vary.

This was charming, funny, and who doesn't love manners combined with magic? Cecilia and Kate are wonderfully no-nonsense heroines and the storytelling via letters works splendidly. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"So Tanja, now that you have just gotten SO many new books you've been anxiously waiting for, you are probably diving right in and reading them all?"
"Hahaa, of course not! I will reread Pratchett for the 100th time instead!"

☀️Bloom and Starfell: The Forgotten Tale have absotely glorious covers underneath the dust jackets, plus wonderful illustrations in black and white
☀️Extraordinary Insects has delicate drawings.
☀️The monster of a book by Le Guin (only 1008 pages) is illustrated by Charles Vess, both in color and in black and white.

Oh to be free just to read. 👾

This week was an absolute shitstorm and I kinda wanna go sit in some cave for a month. 🙄

But my books arrived today! Perfect timing, for once. 🥳📚🥳📚🥳

I've actually read most of these already, but collection must be kept up to date. 🙈

So. This has not aged well. The not so casual racism was jarring. I cringed my way through, and the whole mess was most certainly not helped by the narrator who managed to be such a nasal embarrassment. She made Rose sound like an uppity idiot all the time.

So.There were some nice bits, Iike the elemental magic stuff. But I think I will not be reading this again.

Ugh Monday. But I'm continuing my reread binge.

Lackey's book get points for having the most horrendous cover, but since I'm listening it, I don't have to see it too much.

I remember having some trouble with Wrede, but let's see how I feel now. I do like how these books are structured, the way the story is told via letters.

And you can hardly go amiss with Le Guin.

This was a reread. And it annoyd me so much more the second time. I think this could be summerized with "Mary had no idea what was happening." I don't know what happened between the first book and this, but apparently it contained a fairly succesful lobotomy for most of the main cast, especially Mary.

Sheesh ?

I may have done a thing concerning books and ordering and bank account going owwie. 👾📚

Easter Readathon was fun and I finished up nearly all I wanted. Only Nine Goblins by T. Kingfisher was left hanging, but oh well.

Oh and one short story missing from the picture is the wonderful A Witch's Guide to Escapes: A Practical Compedium To Portal Fantasies by Alix E. Harrow.

If only return to reality wasn't so jarring.. 🙈

So, it's time for my traditional Easter readathon, my only one during the year. This year I seem to gravitate towards comfort (for some ODD reason) and been mostly rereading books the whole year anyway.

Apart from the ones in the picture, I'll reread few short stories: A Witch‘s Guide to Escape: A Practical Compendium of Portal Fantasies by Alix Harrow and Mrs. Sorensen and the Sasquatch by Kelly Barnhill. 👾📚

Finally it's Friday! Hopefully I will have a restful weekend full of books for a change.

I'm finishing up The Return of the King, and, as I am wont to do, started a few new books. Attenborough is a joy always, Black Sheep a soothing reread, and The Empress of Salt and Fortune awaited new release. So I should be content for the weekend. 📚🎧👾

So. Finland (too) has gone full shutdown, everything is closing, and nobody knows what's happening. I'm currently working from home, so the doggie is happy.

Concentration is a bit tricky and my eyes are giving me grief so I've been listening to audiobooks. It's been a while since I've reread LotR so here we go. And after I finish the first three, I shall enjoy more of Sir Attenboroughs tales. 🎧👾

Ah, finally it's Saturday and I can sit down and read. Also listening my beloved Rose Daughter by Robin Mckinley which is an absolute treat. 📚🎧👾

I've had a nice, peaceful weekend filled with reading and long walks with the doggo. And so far have finished up these.

The Prince and the Dressmaker was a lovely, lovely reread of 5 ⭐

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo was so much fun, will definitely get my hands on the just released sequel. 4 ⭐

The Starlit Wood was a disappontment. All those wonderful authors, and it was a solid meh. 3 ⭐

I finally found a lovely edition for this book. Not one for vampires, but McKinley could write about toadstools and make it all kinds of wonderful. 🦌🌳☀️

OMG. Pubdate October 2020! And it will be a trilogy. OMG 🤯👾🤩

Oh it's time to reread this glorious oddness. I loved it when I read it last year. It compines text with totally contrasting pictures, and is a wonderful political satire, and an adventure all at once. Oh and a quite good commentary of on propaganda and fake news too. 👾

More books I am piling to my overflowing shopping basket.. But I seem to have missed The Epic Crush of Genie Lo when it came. Chinese folklore brought to this day, monkey king, and demons, and a perfectionist heroine who finds herself to be an immortal. Fun!

And The Empress of Salt and Fortune is a Tor novella coming out in March. Asian period drama, revenge, angry women, and, hear me out: WAR MAMMOTHS.

Well, I've been meaning to read this for ages, for here is a book that combines my two intense interests: astrophysics and dinosaurs. And that doesn't happen everyday, let me tell you. 😂

At 250 pages in, I'm quite pleased with my reading experience so far. Not just surface briefing, and the book is long enough that the writer has space to scope stuff out. Not the most eloquent writer, but interesting on the science-front.

You know when you have a towering TBR already and you keep finding oddly interesting new books.. And you REALLY should be on a book buying ban spree. 🙃

I don't understant why I haven't read these before. How stupid of me. 🤨

What better way to spend a wintery Sunday than reading.. And hoo boy have I waited rereading this one.

I've had an aggressive start for my reading year, to say the least. This is my 20th read and I have several other books going on as well. Probably running towards a reading slump, but oh well. 📚📚📚👾

I ordered my first ever book from The Folio Society. They've made an absolutely gorgeous edition of Howl's Moving Castle and, well, here we are. Waiting. 📚👾

A fun thing among the havoc: I got a free period of 6 weeks of BookBeat, and I've been listening audiobooks like there is no tomorrow. It's been fun. Not sure if I will continue after the free period, but for now I'm fully entertained on my walks. 📚 🎧

This year has certainly taken off with an unneccessary bang. I had to put away twitter and the news for a spell, there is just a limit to take in all what is happening.

I realised that even my reading was affected, did not want to read anything that gave me anxiety. So here's to Walliams and Bryson. May they give me a gentle day. With a chuckle even.

These are my 10 favorite reads of 2019. I could have put more T. Kingfisher there, but I think she is pretty present already. Did not count rereads, except for Attenboroughs lovely updated Life on Earth that I've read approximately 20 years ago. Lovely reading year in all accounts. I've been rereading through Austen and had the pleasure to read my absolute favorite of them all this weekend.

I'm always hunting the Über Edition for my favorites. For some, it is a challence.. For Persuasion, it only took hmm maybe 5 editions to find this one. 📚👾

So. This is possibly the most beautiful book I have ever seen. I most certainly hope the content lives up to its lovelines. Wow.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January is so far surpassing all my expectations, incredible use of language, a wonderful story. My small cold heart is full. And Bryson does know how to make information sing. So my Sunday is quite luxurious on the book department. 📚👾

Finally it's Saturday. And I got some book orders, which is always lovely. I'm still eagerly awaiting my Waterstones edition of The Starless Sea. And the time to read all this..

The irony is, amidst all the TBR's and new shiny books, I am rereading Terry Pratchett. Again. 👾

This has been a year of somewhat slow reading, and I did have an epic reading slump of many months too. But I managed to reach my minimum goal, so yay for that. 🎉👾

Ugh had a bizarre compulsion to read the Belgariad by David Eddings, and after five books in a row of THAT, I think my IQ dropped at least 10 points. Yay for nostalgia, but dear heavens the books got on my nerves after a point. 🤨

I shall rest my poor brain with this lovely book for a while. We'll see if I am masochistic enough to continue with uncle Eddings later. 🙈

I must confess that I wasn't that amored with her Six of Crows, but I loved her short stories in The Language of Thorns. So here's hoping her adult book wows me, especially since I splurged on this Waterstones edition.. 👾🙈

Usually I'm not one for horror, but when it's T. Kingfisher, I will read anything she writes. And this was creepy, and wonderfully messed up, but at least at the moment I think I can sleep without keeping every light on. I will be thinking about this for a while.

Life's been ..interesting, and I took a longish sabbatical from my social media. But books have been happening, here is my current reads and TBR in sweet disarray. 👾📚

So, it has come to pass that my relationship with my regular bookseller of 10 years has come to an crash and burn-end. They increased prises for about 40 % and it took longer and longer to get your books, I waited my latest order for a month. And the customer service basically said f*ck you.

So now on I am in a polyamorous relationship with Amazon (😑), Waterstone, and Bookdepository. 👾
