mcctrish It‘s like we‘ve started a whole new book “meanwhile the lesser characters x, y and z have arrived at that place we met once 600 pages ago to kick off subplot c” 2w

TheAromaofBooks Apparently someone just needs to be in a creepy castle so since Emily is out for now, gotta find someone else to chuck into one 😂 2w
Clare-Dragonfly Emily is going back to the convent but Blanche (?) just left the convent so… are they going to meet? Why didn‘t they meet when Emily was at the convent burying her dad? 2w
Bklover Ummmm…who the hell are these people?!?! 2w
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks There‘s a creepy castle around every corner in this book. Somebody has to live in them! So the obvious answer is to introduce more characters. 🤓🤣 2w

Infinite Jest (-20th Anniversary) | David Foster Wallace

I wonder if there's a significance to the date 1 April? This date is mentioned twice in our week 1 reading - once in the YTMP (p.27) and once in the YDAU (p.42). And while we're at it, what's with all the acronyms? 😱#whatsthepoint #infinitejestbuddyread

Hooked_on_books I noticed the April 1 recurrence as well. Could it be a reference to April Fools' Day? 8y
Sarahr875 That's how I feel with dr seuss and the 15th of may... 8y
britt_brooke @Hooked_on_books The first time it's mentioned is during the "conversationalist" section. Toward the end Hal mentions April Fools Day. Curious to see if it pops up again any time soon. ? 8y

britt_brooke @Sarahr875 😁👏🏻 8y
rachelm So many acronyms. Damn, you all are making me want to reread. Almost. Allllmost. 8y
britt_brooke @rachelm Come on, you know you want to! 8y
drokka Can you imagine how much more paper would be required if he hadn't used acronyms? 😳. 1 April has an Pagan/Earthly Belief systems significance (Ostera) - beginnings, fecundity, basic springtime motifs. 8y
britt_brooke @drokka Thanks! That's interesting about April 1. And you're so right about the paper saving. 🤣 8y
readinginthedark Was DFW ever in the military? They use a lot of acronyms in the military... 8y
britt_brooke @readinginthedark I don't think so (but my husband was and you are right about all the acronyms 😱). 8y
readinginthedark @britt_brooke My husband used to be, too. That's why I asked! Couldn't understand 80% of what he said about work the first year we were married! 😆 8y
britt_brooke @readinginthedark The most confusing was listening to soldiers speaking to each other! I remember my first FRG (ha, acronym) handing out a common acronym cheat sheet. 8y
readinginthedark @britt_brooke That's handy! I wish mine had done that! 8y
