On ch. 14 of listening to this novel. The voices of the characters have been quite an adjustment to my ears- Over time I have watched every season of the series on Britbox-I cannot get the film‘s distinctive voices out of my head to make room for these audio voices -they grate on me.Despite this issue,as usual Cleeves‘ story line has me hooked.

Mystery, police procedural, and/or Vera Stanhope fans can read this installment regardless of previous series experience (or lack thereof). Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-dark-wives-vera-stanhope-11

Vera, Joe and Rosie are searching for Josh, a staff member of a residents home. They need to find a 14 year old Chloe Spence to get to the truth. The book moves at a steady pace with multiple POV's from the team members. As usual, Ann Cleeves keeps the story close to her chest so it's hard to figure out what is going on until the very end of the book.

EadieB If you like books that are hard to figure out, then you will love this book. I look forward to the next book in the series but I do highly recommend reading this book. 3mo

I‘m a big fan of the Ann Cleeves Vera series (although I do like the Shetland series even more). I really like how unapologetically grumpy and terse and fixated Vera is. I‘m almost finished the tv series as well, which differs from the books while still retaining the heart of who Vera is.

It‘s a good day to stay inside and read!

Whereas after four chapters of Butter I felt like I‘d been reading it forever, it was easy to get through 535 pages of this intriguing mystery. I was literally going to leave it on the shelf for a while longer, but it was picked as one of the June selections for Bloody Scotland Book Club. Best laid plans!

I have four books out from the library, and I‘m actively in the middle of at least two books for June, so of course I started another book today!

My #hyggehourreadathon was so successful, I read three chapters then laid down and slept for two hours! Not the book‘s fault though.
