pick@CSeydel headed home! I didn't necessarily "enjoy" it, but Baldwin didn't write to entertain; he wrote to make you think. This was a masterclass in characterization. With depictions of the Black church, family rallying together for the birth of a child, Black love & the policing of Black bodies, I was in awe of the writing. Some things didn't age well, lack of chapters at times made it difficult to digest,& I wanted more closure at the end. 3.5⭐️s

Well, #LMPBC #Round5 #GroupD kind of sizzled out. I‘m not sure where we ended up. I mailed my book (Maid) to @BookishMarginalia back in March. April would have been LazyDays‘ book. She sent me @WanderingBookaneer‘s book (Off the Rails) in May, which I read and passed along as well. I didn‘t ever receive Gloria‘s book for June. I think life happens. 🤷♀️ It was still fun. Will you ladies send along my book when you get a chance?

I'm not entirely sure what I just read lol. Equal parts anti-war satire, social critique, musings on family & dealing with grief, ending with a fever dream of revelations...this book was indeed weird & lacked cohesiveness, but I like weird books! I've heard his non-fiction reads better. He has some powerful 1-liners & I felt some emotion towards the end, so I do see potential! Maybe ⭐️⭐️💫?
