#SeriesLove2025 #WhereareyouMonday

I‘m pleased to be back on board and in the early 19th century with Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin as they sail to what was then known as New Holland (Australia) and the Spice Islands (Indonesia). This is book five in the 20 book Aubrey-Maturin series.

LeahBergen I need to get back to this series! 3w
Ruthiella I pretty much only manage one book from it a year. 😅 3w

#chunksterchallenge2025 check in: I‘m 315 pages in. I‘m enjoying reading this…he‘s surprisingly funny in his letters. I do wish the maps (battlefields) were labeled more clearly.

@Amiable

Amiable Ooh, I have this one, too. Glad to hear you are liking it. 3w

Many might not know his name, but may have heard his voice! Simon Vance has narrated many an #audiobook from the Temeraire series to the Aubrey/Maturin series to the Dune series! His voice is grand in style, comfortable in both male and female voices and dialects. When I listen to his stories I‘m transported inside the narrative thanks to his voice.

His in-house recording studio burned along with his house in the Eaton, California fires. ⬇️

bookishbitch Thanks for sharing. Sadly we will be seeing a lot more of these since so many people have been affected. 1mo
Ruthiella He‘s a fantastic narrator. I‘m sorry to hear he‘s one of the many affected by the fire. 1mo

Pickpick

Overall, I'd say this was a Pick. The pace was good for a historical novel, and I enjoyed reading about the Battle of Copenhagen given that I visited the city this past summer. The only downside to this book: few female characters, and what ones exist are not well rounded. (I don't expect many given the setting, but it would be nice for the ones there ARE to be interesting.)

Repost for @julieclair

Looking forward to a year of great reading ahead with #FictionalTraveler! My January selection is Mrs. Adams in Winter. I‘m excited to see what everyone else has chosen!

Looking forward to a year of great reading ahead with #FictionalTraveler! My January selection is Mrs. Adams in Winter. I‘m excited to see what everyone else has chosen!

Tagging those who have expressed interest, but all are welcome. 😃

TheAromaofBooks I think I'm going with Manhunt by Janet Evanovich - it's been on my shelf forever and is set in Alaska!! 2mo
Amiable Do I have to finish the book in January? Because I‘m fairly certain I‘ll be reading “Anna Karenina” (set in Russia) every day of the month —and into the next one. Or maybe two. 😄 (edited) 2mo
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I picked a reread, but it‘s been like six years since I last read it - 2mo

BarbaraBB Yes I‘m in. I‘ll be reading a book that‘s been on my shelves forever 2mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Sounds perfect! 2mo
julieclair @Amiable You can finish the book whenever you want. This is a very casual challenge. I‘m reading Anna Karenina too, for the #KareninaWinter buddy read, and I‘m woefully behind. It will be a miracle if I finish it by the end of January. 🤪 2mo
julieclair @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage If you‘re anything like me, rereading a book after 6 years will feel like a first-time read. I never do remember anything! 😎 2mo
julieclair @BarbaraBB That one looks fascinating! Looking forward to your review. 2mo
DebinHawaii This looks good! I just posted mine. Part of a mystery series set in Alaska that I love & didn‘t get to in December, so this is perfect! ❄️ 2mo
LiseWorks Oh I have to pick a book 2mo
julieclair @BarkingMadRead Welcome! Looping you in. 2mo
BarkingMadRead Thank you!!! 2mo
BarkingMadRead I‘m going to use this one, for obvious reasons (if you‘ve read it or seen the movie) 2mo
julieclair @BarkingMadRead Oooohhh, just seeing the title gives me the shivers! ❄️ 2mo

Getting ready for our first #chunksterchallenge2025 read for tomorrow! 10 pages per day until we‘re done!

Thank you for hosting again, @Amiable We look forward to this challenge every year!

This one only counts as a Chunkster…not a Colossal Chunkster! We‘ll have to pick a longer one next! 😂
@Kelly326

Amiable I think we‘re going to run out of qualifying colossal chunksters before too long! 😄 2mo
Kelly326 It was hard enough to find one that long. 😂 Excited about this one!! 2mo

The Armour of Light | Ken Follett
post image

Here we go with the #12Booksof2024.

January was a tricky month to choose one. In the end I went for The Armour of Light by Ken Follett.

Notable other mentions : Diva by Daisy Goodwin, The Appeal by Janice Hallet, The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell, The Poet by Michael Connelly. A good reading month!

Mollyanna You can never go wrong with Ken Follett. I haven‘t read this one, I‘ll have to put it on my TBR. 2mo
Andrew65 @Mollyanna I totally agree, such a wonderful series. Such big books but I almost fancy starting all over. 2mo
Mollyanna I have book two queued up for next year, but it‘s been such a long time since I read book one I may have to re-read first. 2mo
Andrew65 @Mollyanna Sounds a good plan. 2mo

HAPPY #BOOKSPIN DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!

It is my favorite day of the month and I am excited at what the draw has picked for me. It's nice that this month there's fantasy and scifi rather than just one or the other. My selections are the tagged and Red Mars. We'll see how far I get with my backlog this month as well.

Dear Littens, I think we all have some classics we would like to read, but somehow new amazing books are released all the time, then some of these classics are, well, a bit on the chunky side and therefore a bit intimidating and in general there is too much to read and too little time!

So, who would be interested in joining in on a quarterly challenge?

Let's tackle those oldies!😊

#classicschallenge

Lunakay @Dilara I remember you being interested 🤗 3mo
TheSpineView I would be interested. I actually intended to read War and Peace this year but never got around to it. 2025 is the year! 3mo

BarbaraJean I‘m interested! I‘ve been joining too many challenges and buddy reads lately, but a quarterly challenge feels more low-key! 3mo

AvidReader25 Love this idea! 3mo
BookBelle84 I'd like to join in! 3mo
