On my way into work this morning, I spotted this truck as they waited to turn into the sub! I believe the elementary school was going to have a Scholastic Book Fair today!!! ☺️📚❤️
I interrupt my regular book posts because doesn‘ the world just need grand babies!? Thanks to my daughter and SIL, Sparks Arthur Meyer ‘Sparky‘ entered my world last night weighing a whopping 9.9 pounds giving me 4 grandkids under three!
4 ⭐ Upon reading this book I was trying to figure out why this book was banned. It was a story of monkeys. They showed off their fingers, they played the drums and other instruments, and talked with friends. Why was this book banned? Apparently, someone thought that this book was associating African culture with monkeys. I don‘t see this because the moneys do more than play drums, they also play banjos and fiddles. I don‘t think African ⬇
I'm resistant to this concept of "we're really all the same"; it's used to belittle experiences of difference / marginalization and as this book shows, uses whiteness as a default norm. Also: if we're saying having ten fingers and toes is what all babies have in common what about babies with disabilities? There is also an Inuit kid drawn with a penguin. Penguins only live in the southern hemisphere! A poor attempt at depicting different cultures.
Online scholastic book fair just doesn‘t have the same thrill. 😕
@outofprint 📚👚 Hadn‘t worn this in a bit, so I broke it out today. So fun! #velocireader #bookishtee
