This 500 page book is engaging, encompassing, and complex. Spanning 40 years, multiple countries, people, policies, methods of torture, and hope, this follows a few people living through immigration, deportation and escape. It‘s an incredible read- and expertly gives context to a complex multi-national issue. Exceptional.
Coffee tawk? yes please! feel free to chat here or on original post- or both! or Start your own thread!

Another great book by Everett. I love how different each of his books are and how they always surprise me. In this one he weaves together three events happening in the past and present in such a creative way. The three timelines slowly converge in the book as the events converge in the main character‘s life. I‘m a big fan.
Think of this book as the story of an empath on steroids, brought on forcibly by the government. When two young sisters enter America seeking asylum, they are denied but given a very different kind of pathway to citizenship. This story brought to my mind the real American history of coercion, ‘medical‘ experiments, forced sterilization of BIPOC.
When I opened the box for this round of #coffeebeanbookclub fall hit me. It smelled amazing. So excited about the books, one of my fav coffee flavors, and the candle is amazing! I‘m taking the stickers to school to put next to our reading hedgehog! Thank you so much @Avanders
