Two years older than this guy, and I don‘t particularly like him, but I totally get this feeling.

readinginthedark Yep, 31 now and still in the "What do I want to do with my life?" stage. ? 6y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark 33 and I know what I‘d do in a perfect world, but still no clue how that translates into real world skills or anything. I‘m stating to think I‘m going to have to give up my life long dream of having kids.😢 6y
readinginthedark ? This is obviously a personal decision with a lot of factors, but if that's what you want, there's still time! Modern medicine is amazing, and you have many years before you're even in the "at-risk" range for having children. 6y

GingerAntics @readinginthedark only 2. You‘re geriatric pregnancy and at higher risk starting at 35. I always promised myself I wouldn‘t get pregnant unless I knew the guy was going to stick around. Now, I take care of my mother after a stroke. Not sure I‘m going to find someone willing to take both of us on. lol 6y
readinginthedark Huh. I thought it was 40. Well anyway, if it makes you feel any better, my stupid kidneys put me at risk for a bunch of the same crap even at this age, so whatever. I get what you mean, though, that's a lot. Just know that you have options! Don't give up on your dreams. Sometimes things crop up when we least expect them. 6y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark for the most part I‘m still looking and holding out hope. I have these odd maudlin moments. I know it‘s so cliche and considered anti-feminist (which I consider myself to be), but that‘s the one thing I have always wanted, no matter what, for as long as I can remember. I wanted baby dolls, never Barbies. I wanted to be a mother. It seems odd, but I don‘t know any other way to explain it... 6y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark even from a very young age (7ish) I really wanted to adopt, so maybe that‘s part of it. I was probably the only kid who thought there were so many kids needing homes, I should adopt at least one before I had kids of my own. I could adopt a child at any age and still be a mother. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Like I said, I was (and am) very odd. 6y

Joyce has a wonderfully creative way of describing things.

GingerAntics @Faibka so glad I saw you reading this and decided to give it a shot. Some parts are a little dry I guess, but 99% of this bad boy is just wonderful. I‘m doing the audiobook, but I‘m keeping track in my ebook which ones I want to go back and actually read. 6y
Faibka @GingerAntics Excellent! 👏👏 I‘m very happy that you are enjoying it and I have contributed in spreading the Joy of Joyce!😊 I was told by another Litten of this Facebook group that is reading Finnegans Wake one page per week! So I couldn‘t resist joining. If you wish to tackle that bad boy you can join 😉 at any point, we‘ll still be reading it by the end of the year 😂 6y
Faibka @GingerAntics Oohh on a side note Hamlet in Purgatory is on its way to me! 😆 6y

GingerAntics @Faibka oh you are so lucky!!! That reminds me to check the library here at work. Thanks for that. Is Finnegans Wake one of those massive tomes? One page? A week? That‘s all? Is this Dickens-esque? Dickensonin? Dickens-like in its crazy, ambling sentences? 6y
Faibka @GingerAntics wait for it... I‘ll tag you on my post for the first page 😉 it‘s as loud as thunder! I‘ll say no more 😬 6y
GingerAntics @Faibka well, the library at work didn‘t have a physical book, but they did have a strange digital download. I had to download every section separately, but I got it all together and then put it in iBooks, so I have Hamlet in Purgatory when you‘re ready to go. 6y
Faibka @GingerAntics hmm, that‘s odd but great that you have it! I need to go to the bookstore over the weekend to pick up my copy. Let me organize my myriad readings and will let you know 6y

Anyone else kind of freaked out by the guy in this one (second story of the collection)? First I thought he was blind, but then he obviously could see. First he seemed kind of cool, then he flipped and waxed poetic about beating boys who talked to girls. (Jesus Christ that sounded like my Grandmother when I was 11. 🙄)

JazzFeathers Read it a couple of years ago. It was definitely a sreange one. But Joyce has such way with words that l still liked it. 6y
GingerAntics @JazzFeathers I googled it, to try and get some insight into to. Apparently it‘s alluded to that the old man goes away to masturbate and then returns to talk to them again, which is when he flips and starts talking about whipping them. I‘ve got a version to read (as opposed to an audiobook) so I can go back and try to figure this whole thing out. So weird. 6y
JazzFeathers @GingerAntics Well, l saw that far. To me, the first story The Sisters was much more cryptic. That's the one l had to Google 😆 6y

Taking the audiobook of this for a spin with my tea this morning. It seems fitting, since I saw the surname “Joyce” last night in the other book I‘m reading.
#jamesjoyce #dubliners #teaandaudiobook

JazzFeathers I started Dubliners a couple of years ago and haven't finished yet. Not because l don't like it. I think Joyce is a genius od words and storytelling. But his stories are riddles and l'm not sure l have the key to those riddles yet. 6y
BeansPage I just got a couple of books from him on my e-reader. I'm hoping they are awesome 👍🏻 6y
GingerAntics @JazzFeathers I find stories like that just take multiple readings and a little research. I‘m really enjoying them, other than being a little weirded out by the old guy in the second one. @TheReadingMermaid I‘ve never read him before, so I‘m excited to have nice little digestible pieces of his writing to start with. 6y

Took a trip to Half Priced Books and found this gem; A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses, Dubliners, Finnegans Wake. I have been wanting to get Finnegans Wake and his other novels for a while now but always ended up putting whatever one I picked up back and getting something else. I had no clue there was an omnibus if his work!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽. I am really excited to have this in my library!
