Guzman's book began with her struggling to understand her Hispanic parents political leanings. I appreciated this as something of a black sheep in my own family - how do you love someone that disagrees with you to the point of thinking the vast majority of people who think like you are idiots, demons, or both?

A solid pre-inaugural listen. May we stay curious and humble even in dangerous and divided times.

This audiobook was okay and had some good pointers for handling business situations and ways to shine. I can find some value in the tips within, but glad the audio was the older version of “62 tricks” instead of the newer “92”. As I‘ve seen in some other reviews, I would agree it is outdated/old fashioned.

Cosmos_Moon_River What irritated me about the book was how the author read constantly with an extreme level of enthusiasm and almost every sentence in was an alliterative mnemonic phrase, like “parties are for pratter”, “dinners are for dining” and “Charlie, chance encounters are for chitchat”. They seem forced and a bit juvenile. Some parts also sounded quite out of touch, like calling a social “screw up” a “boner”. (edited) 2w

“We know that our brains have evolved to crave connection:When we “click” with someone, our eyes often start to dilate in tandem;our pulses match; we feel the same emotions and start to complete each other‘s sentences within our heads. This is known as natural entrainment, and it feels wonderful. Sometimes it happens and we have no idea why; we just feel lucky that the conversation went so well. Other times, even when we‘re desperate to bond with

Bookwomble This sounds similar to the Person-Centred counselling concept of relationship depth. It's something you can't make happen, but when it arises, the therapeutic work is usually much more affecting. 1mo

I'm not sure how much of this I'm taking away and keeping but the case studies were interesting. There is a "confession" at the end that I think should have been upfront, as it may have changed how I took in the information.

CoffeeAndABook Sounds interesting !! 🙂 5mo

This was very interesting. This made me think about the way that I listen and show people that I am listening. It also compares engagement in conversation. I liked it.

A much needed reminder to stay curious and engage in conversations rather than lectures.
