Pet is about that stage of life of a young girl when you‘re trying to fit in but also be special and chosen. It‘s about idolizing someone, betrayal, and darker sides of growing up. There‘s also lots of grief (loss of a parent) that I was unprepared for. Racism also plays a part in this story. This teacher-student dynamic is memorable and nothing beats this cover! I‘ve GOT to read Chidgey‘s others. #blameitonlitsy you all were right!

This was a delight! It‘s been on my shelves for years, and a #blameitonLitsy trifecta prompted me to read it: I put it in my #192025 lineup for 1972, @TheAromaofBooks spotted it on my #BookSpin list & suggested a casual buddy read, then it landed as my August #BookSpin…clearly, it was meant to be!

Herriot‘s descriptions of the Yorkshire countryside make me long for England (admittedly, it doesn‘t take much to trigger that longing in me!). ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) His stories of life as a vet range from hilarious to charming, as do the personalities he introduces us to along the way. I loved every one of Herriot‘s anecdotes—from Siegfried‘s infuriating but somehow also charming contradictoriness, to Tricki Woo the beloved and overfed Pekingese, to Herriot‘s disastrous attempts to court Helen. I devoured the short chapters like the best treats, using the book as a reward to follow heavier reads. 2w
AmyG I read these as a young adult and absolutely loved them. 2w

Ruthiella I also read these as a teenager and remember loving them. The TV show was also on PBS at the time which was wonderful. 😍 2w
Sparklemn @Ruthiella There is a newer version on PBS that is wonderful as well. 2w

Daisey I loved these as well! 2w
BarbaraJean @Ruthiella @Sparklemn My parents loved the original TV show... I've just put the newer version DVDs on hold at the library, to watch with my dad 😊 2w
TheAromaofBooks It was SO fun to revisit this one! I'm starting All Things Bright and Beautiful next week 😂 2w
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Yaaaay! It is SO tempting to start in on All Things Bright and Beautiful... but I'm trying my best to finish a couple of reading challenges and can't believe October is almost over 😩 I'm planning to start #192030 in the new year, and I might just have to put Bright & Beautiful and Wise & Wonderful down for 1974 and 1976 😁 2w

Book mail! I know this was a #blameitonlitsy, but I don't remember for sure who exactly tempted me. (Maybe it was @DebinHawaii ?) But oh, man, is this book sweet! I almost feel like skipping the concert I have tickets for tonight to just sit and leaf through the pretty papers and paper-related items in here! (Almost...I think I'll still go to the concert and save this book and my others for tomorrow.)

DebinHawaii It could have been me! 🙋🏻‍♀️I did post about the book in my #5JoysFriday last month & before too! 😉 I‘m going to say sorry, not sorry though because aren‘t they fabulous?! I just got a similar one called Paper Love Vintage Florals this week.🤦🏻‍♀️ 4w

A whimsical middle grade story that turns out to have a lot of heart. Image is from a letter my mom wrote (urging the Gov. to sign protections for trans Californians) on my ancient typewriter, Goliath. She couldn't bear to part with it; I know she'll love this book.

Wow, how lovely to read a compelling story about middle-aged people who are happy with their life choices! I was afraid I would feel let down or betrayed by the end -- literary fiction can really turn on you! -- but I was completely satisfied and crying happy tears.

#DoubleSpin #BlameItOnLitsy

#TurnThePage readathon book 2.

This was a great break from Booker reading! Engaging, entertaining, and interesting history and mystery (of sorts?) about rare egg collectors and thieves. Loved it.

This was definitely a #BlameitonLitsy pick - thank you to @sarahbarnes for your review which put this delight on my radar!

JamieArc Interestingly, Bauer had a nominee on the Longlist a few years ago. I‘m forgetting the title, but I really liked it. 2mo
JamieArc I think it was this one 2mo
TheKidUpstairs @JamieArc I'll have to check it out. This was my first time reading her stuff, and I really enjoyed it! 2mo
