This a very dark, grimy, dreadful book, full of nasty people doing terrible things. It‘s also brilliantly written, hard to put down when you‘re reading it, and impossible to forget about when you‘re done. I may even watch the Netflix movie!

6 for me in the 3rd, 14 total, 10 to go!

My previous reading of william gay 'twilight' was an incredibly unsettling tale and Ive been looking fwd to trying him again. This was published posthumously +the end is ambiguous but the overall tale of a writer moving bk to tenessee w wife + dtr to use the 'Bell witch' legend as inspiration for a horror, +staying on the haunted farm allowed for some v unsettling scenes. I just wished there had been 50 pages more.

#BookReport This week I concentrated on finishing the last 3 books for #14books14weeks. All 3 were good reads.
I liked but didn‘t love Blacktop Wasteland for #Booked2021 #AppalachianNoir. I am behind on all my buddy reads but hope to be caught up this week. Sorry to the hosts for the lack of participation.

#WeeklyForecast Finish Moonlight and listen to Coy‘s Hill and see where my mood takes me after that.

This was grittier and at the same time more poetic than any book I've read. Set in North Carolina, during the last days before the sheriff retires it deals with drugs, corruption, loyalty, and greed. I'll definitely read more from this author.

Not a book or genre that I would‘ve picked if it wasn‘t for the challenge, but this was quite good. I liked how the writer interwove the personal struggles, including flashbacks to past traumas, of the main character retiring rural cop, the eco-activist, and the aging farmer, with the two crime threads of meth dealing and resort sabotage. The two voices, one gritty male and one poetic female, worked well in audio.
