Sold on a Monday: A Novel | Kristina Mcmorris

Pickpick

So I was a little annoyed that this book was more about two people working at a newspaper than about children being sold out of desperation in the 1930s. But after a bit I became so immersed in the story that it didn't matter anymore.

TheBookgeekFrau @DieAReader So do I! But it ended up a decent story in the end, so not a total loss 22h

My Side of the Mountain | Jean Craighead George

Pickpick

At first I was like, come on! a 12yr old city boy is tanning deer hide! But the mention of the Civil Defense put the whole Cold War, nuclear fear thing gave context to why Sam studied up on survival skills. Made it more enjoyable, and overall I ended up liking it more than I thought I would.

DieAReader 🎉Excellent! 7d
TheAromaofBooks I was a huge fan of “runaway“ books growing up, and this was a favorite. I loved the sketches and recipes that made me feel (falsely 😂) like I could take this book and use it as a guide. 6d
TheBookgeekFrau @TheAromaofBooks Something tells me you have a story here! 😂😂 6d

I, Jedi | Michael A. Stackpole

Pickpick

I really like Corran Horn so I was happy he was the MC. I also enjoyed getting more Jedi lore. But holy shit was this one long-winded novel. I was starting to feel like it was never going to end, and that makes it border on so-so.

Mehso-so

It's hard to judge this book on its own because the entire time I was reading it bits and pieces of the movie and its haunting song were running through my head. But what I did get from the book that I didn't from the movie is that this story is almost as much about Oliver and his father as it is about Oliver and Jenny.

Swift as Desire: A Novel | Laura Esquivel

Mehso-so

First read of 2024 is in the books ?

This was no *Like Water For Chocolate* that's for sure. But the story of Júbilo and Lucha and their daughter Lluvia was sweet. The bits of history of the telegraph were interesting. However, the extraneous, not quite, mystical elements were nothing but distracting.
