Ok this is my 1st time posting while I #ReadLesMis — please tell me I‘m not the only one feeling this way reading today‘s chapter! 😤 People are so cruel and despicable. Poor Fantine.

TheBookHippie People are unbelievably cruel. I saw it often being a volunteer doula for teens for 28 years. 2d
lil1inblue Fantine broke my heart in the musical - I Dreamed a Dream made my heart ache. Her story in the book is so much more devastating. 💔 2d

Cuilin Yes I‘m feeling all the😠 2d
tpixie Yes! Poor Fantine! 🥹🥺😢 2d
Deblovestoread Today's chapter was hard. Just heartbreaking. 💔 2d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads Yea. That had me all in the feels 2d
JenlovesJT47 @TheBookHippie @lil1inblue @Cuilin @tpixie @Deblovestoread @DrSabrinaMoldenReads glad I‘m not alone! I really know nothing about this story other than the names of the main characters (saw the first 20 minutes of the movie 😳), so I‘m really looking forward to reading the rest of this. I read 5 extra chapters today 😬. Poor Fantine. The tooth thing makes me irrationally angry 😤 2d
TheBookHippie @JenlovesJT47 it‘s so unbearably sad. 2d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads There are heartwarming events to come. That‘s what I have begun to love about the book. Capturing life's complexities @tpixie @TheBookHippie @Cuilin @dabbe @Deblovestoread (edited) 15h
JenlovesJT47 @DrSabrinaMoldenReads yay I‘m glad to hear it! 🤗 15h

“The cruel of heart have their own black happiness.”

Yes, yes they do. Life has not changed Mr. Hugo. #ReadLesMis

Cuilin Unfortunately there are too many Madames Victurniens about today. 3d

I resonated with this…Time seems to have started to move faster. I need some way to slow it down. #ReadLesMis

TheBookHippie The days are long and the years are short my grandmother said. 4d

I loved this chapter: “Mix Two Unhappy People Together and You Get Happiness”
I believe this happens a lot. #ReadLesMis

It‘s interesting that the French novels, Les Miserables and The Count of Monte Cristo have several elements in common. #ReadLesMis

Texreader Oh I‘d be interested in exploring this thought with you. I loved the Count but couldn‘t get through Les Mis. 2w
TheBookHippie I saw similarities with Anna Karenina as well. Count is not my favorite and the only Dumas I enjoyed was Black Tulip. However, the perceived main themes are similar at times and even with types of people. 2w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @TheBookHippie Wow! The Count of Monte Cristo and Anna Karenina are my favorite books. The Count moved Anna to No.2. I still have a crush on him. 😆 2w

DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Texreader To me, Les Mis is not at the same level at all to the Count. When I got the modern translation of Les MIs, I like it a lot better. 2w
Texreader @DrSabrinaMoldenReads How I loved the Count!! 2w
TheBookHippie @DrSabrinaMoldenReads The backgrounds have some similarities Anna & Les Mis, and the treatment of women… probably because I just reread Anna it seems familiar. It‘s an interesting thought process to explore. 2w
TheBookHippie @DrSabrinaMoldenReads The Count is my niece‘s favorite book, she adores him as well!! 2w
dabbe Which translation of the Count would y'all recommend? 🤔 2w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I had the Penguin Classic and loved it @dabbe 2w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads Come to think of it, it reminds me of Anna in terms of the intensity of the feelings @TheBookHippie (edited) 2w

tpixie Profound quote!! It struck me also. I‘m behind on reading, but I‘ll eventually catch up. I had to go up to Kansas City to help my sister with her 2nd cataract surgery & her eye bothered her too much to read this time so I didn‘t get much reading done. Now I‘ve got to drive down to Dodge City because my daughter‘s getting induced with her fifth child & I‘ll be taking care of the other kids this next week. 🦋 🙏🏻For safe delivery 🙏🏻 2w
TheBookHippie @tpixie sending love & light!!!! 2w
TheBookHippie This quote. Just so relevant. Truth. 2w

kspenmoll @tpixie Sending love & hopes for a speedy recovery for your sister- & for you, grandma!💕 2w
kspenmoll Just a perfect quote…. 2w
dabbe @tpixie Safe travels, m'dear! Hope your sister heals well and that your daughter's delivery goes smoothly. You are a superb caretaker! 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe Perfect quote. We just have to keep supplying the lightbulbs for their horrific shattering of glass to try and keep us in the dark. ❣️👊🏻❣️ 2w

DrSabrinaMoldenReads @tpixie God Bless! I have 5 grandchildren. You will have caught up with me. 2w

tpixie @kspenmoll @dabbe Thanks!! 😊😊😊 2w
tpixie @DrSabrinaMoldenReads grandkids are so much fun! 🤩 2w
julieclair Such a profound, and sadly relevant, quote. 💡 2w
julieclair @tpixie 🙏🙏 for your daughter‘s delivery, and for your sister‘s healing. And hugs and high fives to you in your role as loving caregiver and grandma. 💙 2w
tpixie @julieclair thanks! My sister is doing great. She got temporary glasses - plain on top with readers. Now she can see much better than with her old prescription and won‘t take her glasses off anymore and that will help continue to protect the eyes until she can get a new prescription in four weeks. Getting ready this morning to head out to Dodge City to take care of daughter & her kids & welcome the new grandbaby! 2w
julieclair @tpixie Great news about your sister. 💙 And wishing you much happiness (and energy!) as you spend time with your daughter's family this week! Enjoy! 2w
tpixie @julieclair thanks! I do need some extra energy!! 😀😆😅😂🤣 2w

DrSabrinaMoldenReads My translation is very different. 2w
Cuilin @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I was just sad for Fantine. The way the boys ‘surprise‘ abandoned the girls was appalling. 2w
dabbe And Tholomyes is described as “badly preserved ... wrinkled, toothless ... beginning to show signs of baldness,“ and in which he claims about himself, “Cock-of-the-walk at thirty, coot at forty.“ #wth? 2w
See All 9 Comments
Cuilin @dabbe yes!! Hugo tells us “20 years later he was a fat, provincial attorney, rich and influential”, but “always a man of pleasure” For all his philosophical talk he knew he was going to abandon her!! 2w
dabbe @Cuilin And it looks like the other girls totally got the joke and moved on, but of course the innocent Fantine, who gave herself for the man she truly believed she loved, is the only one to get pregnant. Truly #lesmis. 2w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin It gets a lot worse. That was a light event 2w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin I was truly into my feelings by the end of that section 2w
Cuilin @DrSabrinaMoldenReads You‘re right, I‘m bracing myself. It‘s so different reading it than seeing it in a theater or on screen. For some reason, I thought Fantine would get more of a love story before the abandonment and single motherhood and having to leave Cosette. I‘ll have to steel myself. 2w
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin Certainly no love story 🥺 2w
