In the UK, we celebrate Mother's Day in March. But I would like to wish all the lovely Litsy Mums, Step Mums, Dog/Cat Mums, Foster Mums, etc, a Wonderful Day.

The best advice my no nonsense and straight talking Mum gave me....

"If you ever think life is hard and unfair, just remember there's always someone in a worse situation than you. Be thankful for what you have."

And my personal fave...
"Some people are just arseholes."

With my mother it was not really the advice she gave but her actions. She thought family always came first. She took care of her older sister in her final days when she had cancer, my grandmother lived with us for over 10 years after my grandfather died. She was always the first to help out friends, neighbors if they needed anything. She cooked many a meal and delivered it to sick...

Summer 1975. I'm on the couch and sighing heavily. My mom walks by. Sensing my ennui, she asks, “What's wrong?“ Me: “I'm bored.“ Cue long pause. Mom: “Did you ever consider the fact that you might be BORING? It's summer, and you can't find something to do? That's on YOU. It's up to you to make your life interesting--nobody but you.“

Still the best advice I've ever received. 💜

My mom always says “It never hurts to ask” in reference to finding deals or jobs. It‘s an ode I live by. You‘d be surprised at the what‘s available if you just ask instead of assume.

I have to share something different, but I think it has to be the time I was acting like a wierdo (as usual) and my poor frustrated mother went "You could just... Act HUMAN!"

I don't think I've managed it but it's been a funny story to look back on and laugh about with her

That not everyone will like me, but it is their loss. We often agreed on our awesomeness and how people who thought otherwise were reallllly missing out. I will miss her, the first Mother‘s Day in heaven.
