This one was extra jarring & felt like a totally different series. Just when I finally had gotten used to the 2nd narrator, this one has a different one. Everything felt off in this one. Sigh. 3⭐️

This is a short, modern retelling of Macbeth from the point of view of Lady Macbeth or Gruoch. I loved Grouch‘s relationships with her women; they are her heart and strength as much as Macbeth. Queen Macbeth is the 5th in the Darkland Tales series in which various Scottish writers reimagine events from Scotland‘s past in new ways.
I definitely recommend revisiting Shakespeare‘s Macbeth before reading this novella or at least have a good understanding of it. McDermid‘s retelling is short but does not lack substance. I love when we get a more fleshed out character (particularly the women) in a retelling of a classic. Added bonus here for the more historically accurate story as well.

Between Michael‘s production of Macbeth, the “historic” Scottish re-enactors, the real life witchcraft in the woods - this one is creepy!
I don't usually read manga, but I love Macbeth so I thought I'd check this out, and I'm glad I did.

The latest in the Hamish Macbeth series is kind of a tie-in to events that happened in the previous book. Green‘s contribution to the series has made the narrative a bit more polished, which I think has made the characters and setting fresher and in some ways has revitalized the series.
I can tell I am that distracted that I forgot to take a photo of the book before returning it to the library! So, enjoy a photo of #SebastianKitty #CatsOfLitsy !

A reread for #Scarathlon. 😳 While I loved all of the references to MACBETH,
it was sometimes difficult to take the journey with the hero in this novel. Why? Well, the hero is a sociopath for one, and even though she‘s justified in what she does, it makes for a blood-gripping ride. I couldn‘t put it down, but I didn‘t walk away with any human-condition idea to make me a better person. ⬇️

I thought this book was really interesting but something about it didn't fit with me. The references and overlap of the history of Shakespeare and Macbeth were fascinating but something about how they were presented detracted from the action and I found myself rereading aspects as there was almost too much detail packed in. I know that's a strange criticism but it's hard to explain any other way.
