nosferatoos Thank you for tagging me in, this is my literal day job 😂 (edited) 7y
TricksyTails Oh yeahhhh this is right up my alley. Prepare to be spammed! 😂 One of the best series ever written. BKV's wit with Staples's art is insanely good. (edited) 7y
brennahawleycraig My Favorite Thing is Monsters. Bone. Daytripper. 7y
TricksyTails Stephen King is featured in the first volume. This is an awesome series (edited) 7y
TricksyTails Wicked funny with badass female characters (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 1. Daytripper by Fabio Moon/Gabriel Ba (DC/Vertigo); this is a book I rec to pretty much everyone. It is entirely self-contained, the art really pretty, and the story is inexplicably beautiful. 2. Saga by Brian K Vaughn/Fiona Staples (Image); second universal rec. It is a space-fantasy epic in the vein of Star Wars in that it is a giant universal conflict with one family at the center. It is BEAUTIFUL. (edited) 7y
MinDea I knew you'd be great people to tag @nosferatoos @TricksyTails !!! 7y
nosferatoos 3. Harrow County by Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook (Dark Horse); southern gothic supernatural spooky book. One of my favorites, consistently high quality. 4. East of West by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragota (Image); “What if Game of Thrones was a Spaghetti Western about the 4 Horsemen of the apocalypse?” 7y
TricksyTails I guess I should ask what type of stories do you like? Superheroes? Horror? High fantasy? 7y
TricksyTails If you like Joe Hill, this is one of my favorites (edited) 7y
TricksyTails Neil Gaiman's masterpiece (edited) 7y
TricksyTails Extremely funny and entertaining 7y
nosferatoos 5. Animosity by Marguiette Bennett (Aftershock); “What if animals had human self-awareness and instead of a zombie apocalypse, your house cat wanted to kill you?” 6. Motor Crush by Babs Tarr + the rest of the former Batgirl is Burnside Team (Image); Fast and the Furious but in the future on motorcycles. Looks like a Grimes music video. 7y
TricksyTails If you like superheroes, Scott Snyder's Batman is excellent 7y
nosferatoos Those are pretty much my go-to recs for anyone who comes into my shop like “Hey, I wanna read a comic book what do you suggest” along with my elevator pitches for them. If you are looking for any specific age range or genre, feel free to let me know. 7y
TricksyTails Do you read manga? 7y
nosferatoos I also have Superhero comics recs for days 7y
nosferatoos Ooooh Sweet Tooth is such a good rec @TricksyTails I forgot about that one AND THEY JUST REPRINTED IT IN PAPERBACK 🙌 7y
night_shift Pretty much anything I'd recommend is here already. I'm reading The Wicked + The Divine right now and it's pretty cool if you're into mythology and people's heads occasionally getting blown off. 7y
TricksyTails I didn't get into it, but If you like fairy tales 7y
TricksyTails @nosferatoos Have you seen the deluxe edition? Trying to decide if it's worth getting. 7y
nosferatoos I didn‘t get into Fables either because there is So Much of it. But my boss really liked it. 7y
TricksyTails If you like the show Lost 7y
nosferatoos @TricksyTails The Deluxe edition is nice if you like hardbacks. The benefit of getting it would be that all three (?) volumes are already out so you don‘t have to wait for the new tpbs to be released. But, personally, the tpbs are cheaper, and that‘s more of a priority for me. 7y
TricksyTails @nosferatoos I feel like I "should" have loved Fables but it just didn't do it for me but I know people love it. 7y
nosferatoos Also @TricksyTails Usually once they print the paperbacks, they start phasing out the deluxe hardback versions, so they will become harder to find 7y
TricksyTails I have a thing for serial killers so I really enjoy 7y
TricksyTails @nosferatoos If there isn't any extra content, I'm happy to stick with the tpbs! 7y
nosferatoos @Clwojick I hope this helps and didn‘t overwhelm you 😂 7y
TricksyTails @MinDea Thank you for tagging me! Love to talk about comics/graphic novels! 😁 7y
TricksyTails What @nosferatoos said! 😂 If you need suggestions more tailored to your tastes, let us know! And if you read manga also, I've got a ton more to suggest. 😆 (edited) 7y
TricksyTails Thought of one more. Honestly you cannot go wrong with anything Brian K Vaughan 7y
Bertha_Mason Through the Woods by Emily Carroll, Stuck Rubber Baby by Howard Cruse, Sally Heathcote: Suffragette by Mary M. Talbot, God Loves Hair by Vivek Shraya, and The Sleep of Reason. Apologies if you've already read any of those. 7y
laurieluna I love Mouse Guard. It has a big Redwall feel to it. Love the art work. 7y
CoffeeCatsBooks Through the Woods, Blankets, Maus, Mouse Guard, Monstress, Sandman, Fables, Elfquest (childhood favorite) 7y
JenlovesJT47 Awesome, I'm going to be hosting a graphic novel swap and should have the details posted today. 7y
haileybean I‘ve only read up to Volume 3, but I‘m loving the Wicked + The Divine 7y
haileybean I‘m just going to quick add this in too; I have had really good luck with Image graphic novels. I‘ve loved almost every graphic novel series from them that I have picked up. The only one I was a little iffy on was Wytches and that‘s because I didn‘t connect with the story as much. I‘ve heard good things about it from others though. 7y
Aleida Monstress. 7y
Clwojick @TricksyTails @nosferatoos Yay! This list is bloody brilliant! Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I will read pretty much any graphic novel, though when it comes to actual comic books I'll ask my brother cause he is a major fanatic (like had a comic book themed wedding - fanatic) I have read a few of these suggestions, but the rest got added to the TBR! Thanks again. I hardly ever see posts of GNs on my feed. Anyone I should be following?? 7y
TricksyTails @haileyhugsbooks YES! I was coming back to suggest anything by Image Comics. They've become my favorite comic publisher. 7y
Clwojick @TricksyTails @JenlovesJT47 Thanks for the tag, I'm going to think about the swap, but I have a ton going on with the holidays and all. BUT I am thinking it would be a great swap idea to do again down the road, and I would definitely be game after January. I think in January's I'll be hosting a bookish tshirt swap too. There's so many good ideas out there. 🙈🙈 7y
JenlovesJT47 No worries if you can't join in for this one. If this one goes well I'm thinking of doing another graphic novel swap around Valentine's Day. If you host a swap please tag me! I don't always see the posts in time and would love to join 🙃 7y
nosferatoos Second to Image, Aftershock is quickly becoming a favorite publisher of mine. Animosity, American Monster, and Insexts are all really great. Unfortunately the company is pretty new so they don‘t have a huge selection of Graphic Novels yet, since most of their loose comics are only 4-6 issues in. But, keep an eye out for them I think they‘re doing really interesting and risky things. 7y
Clwojick @JenlovesJT47 I am currently hosting a bookmark swap! Check out my feed for the link. #bookmarkswap 7y
xicanti Here're a few I don't think were mentioned above: AMY UNBOUNDED by Hartman; CASTLE WAITING by Medley; YOTSUBA&! by Azuma; SILVER SURFER by Slott & Allred; HAWKEYE by Fraction & Aja; HAWKEYE by Thompson & Romero; pretty well any NOVA (but especially Abnett & Lanning's take); HARK! A VAGRANT by Beaton; MOOMIN by Jansson; PHONOGRAM by Gillen & McKelvie; ELFQUEST by the Pinis; STRANGERS IN PARADISE by Moore; GREEN ARROW YEAR ONE . 7y
xicanti I could go on and on and on and on and on. Comics are my jam. 7y
TricksyTails @Clwojick @nosferatoos I'd be interested to see the suggestions on who to follow too because you are two of three I've discovered who are posting about comics. Also, I haven't made posts of the books I've already read since joining Litsy. I should get on that but a lot of them were library books, so I don't have the physical copy. Did you see the #geekygraphicnovelswap sign up is now live by @JenlovesJT47 ? She also posts about graphic novels. 7y
TricksyTails @xicanti So many awesome suggestions! Yotsuba&! just warms my heart. 7y
JenlovesJT47 Thank you I signed up for the bookmark swap! 7y
nosferatoos @TricksyTails I haven‘t found a ton of dedicated comics readers on Litsy. I work at a comic store so when I look for recs, I tend to look for novel/book recs. But if anyone plays a lot about comics @ me and I will follow bc I love talking about comics. I am trying to make a more concerted effort to post about what I‘m reading week to week on Litsy since I just discovered you can tag comics singles. 7y
xicanti @TricksyTails it's one of my very favourites! I recommend it to anyone who asks for upbeat recs. 7y
TricksyTails @nosferatoos Ooh I'm going to have to keep a lookout for Aftershock. Those titles have me intrigued! 7y
nosferatoos @TricksyTails Insexts is one of my favorites but I am always hesitant to use it as a blind recommendation. It‘s a Victorian Lesbian Body Horror Erotica 😂 7y
TricksyTails @nosferatoos True! You probably don't need comic/graphic novel recs since it's your job to DO the recommending all day at work! 😆 I need to get better about updating Litsy. I'm pretty new here and need to focus on posting my books. 7y
TricksyTails @nosferatoos it's funny because that is the exact one that caught my attention with the title. Now, I definitely need to get a hold of it! 7y
TricksyTails @xicanti It's such a pure, feel-good series. I always turn to it if I need a laugh. 7y
Serotonin Definitely 7y
Vansa Fun home is one of my favourites. Preacher is pretty good too, till.the last 10 volumes. One of the absolute best in my opinion , is Transmetropolitan. Complex, thought provoking and hugely relevant to the political scenarios playing out across the world right now. 7y
speljamr I love the Wicked & the Divine. Lazarus is an interesting one too. And I love the shared universe of Valiant Comics. 7y
speljamr Oh, Rat Queens was awesome too. 7y
speljamr And I loved Black Science as well. 7y
Aninski I love Paper Girls, and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz series by Marvel. They‘re BEAUTIFUL! 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @TricksyTails Who is the 3rd person you watch for comics recs? 7y
TricksyTails @Natasha.C.Barnes Not necessarily comics recs but @JenlovesJT47 posts graphic novels and is doing a GN swap. Do you know any more? 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @TricksyTails Nope! Just been getting good recs from @Clwojick and @xicanti (who, by the way, should def make the #comicthon she hosted in September a more regular thing, eeeeeh? 😉) 7y
xicanti There's another #comicthon scheduled for November 26th! I skipped October because of Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon. 7y
xicanti Oops, forgot to tag @Natasha.C.Barnes in my last comment. 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @xicanti !!!! I didn't see that! Yay!! 😘 7y
xicanti @Natasha.C.Barnes I announced it on Sunday and I'll be posting regular reminders leading up to it! We've had a few more people join each time, so hopefully it'll catch on. 7y
Clwojick @xicanti oooh this sounds like fun!!! What exactly is it? Just a comic reading weedkend? 7y
xicanti @Clwojick it's a one-day, comics-focused readathon with no minimum targets and no limit on the kind of comics you can read. Everything's welcome, in whatever quantity works for you. 7y
claffy_reads Hey lady! I miss you around here! I hope you are well. 6y
