Sweet Tooth, Book One (Deluxe)
Sweet Tooth, Book One (Deluxe) | Jeff Lemire
20 posts | 19 read | 22 to read
Kids like Gus have a price on their heads. Seven years ago, the Affliction raged like a forest fire, killing billions. The only children born since are part of a new breed of human-animal hybrids. Gus is one of these children, a boy with a sweet soul, a sweeter tooth-and the features of a deer. When vicious hunters descend on his isolated forest home, a mysterious and violent man called Jepperd rescues Gus. The hulking drifter promises to lead Gus to The Preserve, a fabled safe haven for hybrid children. As the two cross this dangerous new American frontier, will Jepperd corrupt the boy he s nicknamed Sweet Tooth, or will Gus s heart change Jepperd? Written and illustrated by spectacular talent Jeff Lemire, SWEET TOOTH is a haunting tale of survival in post-apocalyptic America of friendships formed in tragedy, and the good and bad in humankind. Collects SWEET TOOTH #1-12, as well as never-before-seen sketches and an introduction by celebrated actor Michael Sheen ("Masters of Sex," "Frost/Nixon")."

This was stellar. A post-pandemic/post-apocalyptic story which reminded me of a lot of similar things, but managed to put a fresh spin on the genre. Gus and Jeppard are the classic innocent and dark characters. I am excited to read the next book. Another excellent choice from this NPR list: https://www.npr.org/2017/07/12/533862948/lets-get-graphic-100-favorite-comics-an...

I have read this previously but not the deluxe edition. The added mini-comics at the end were fun to read.

I still loved this story just as much the second time around. It is bleak, disturbing at times, and yet Sweet Tooth brings an innocence to the story that inspires hope.

I really need to read more of this series. 💚

Now, there‘s an end for you… What a fascinating story — fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and the plague of course hitting close to home. Complex characters with sharp motivations, some apparent, some hidden. The rough, stark quality of the art really added to the apocalyptic feel. Things aren‘t going well for our titular character, and I hope things change for him soon. I can‘t wait to see what happens next!

In a continuation of reading before watching, I picked up Sweet Tooth, which is more violent than I expected but a gripping read so far…

Sweet Tooth turning into a Netflix original series. I do not know if you ladies have seen this yet, but I just did. I wanted to share it since we read it together.

LibrarianRyan Oh my goodness. I do know there is a new book coming out but not this. That should be interesting. 4y

I saw the Netflix series trailer and got curious. Book One is available on kindle unlimited so I read about this DC character I had never heard of before. The trailer is not as dark as this. I give it 3/5 stars

4 ⭐
What in the world did I just read? Maybe I would think that always, or maybe I think that because I am currently working from home because of the pandemic. Who knows. This is a world where a pandemic has whipped out most of the population, and new kids being born, are born with animal features. I had to immediately put the next book on hold at the library. It‘s that good.

4⭐️ This was a great dystopia that had some really relatable moments due to our recent struggles in 2020. It was a roller coaster of emotions, and as much as the words, the artist imagery had just as much impact. Definitely recommend the story especially if you enjoy graphic novels and dystopias as much as I do.

This story moved fast and was really entertaing. Some of the images are legit haunting. The forward hypes it up a bit more than what I felt it was, but then again, I am no expert on graphic novels.
Overall, glad I read it and will for sure be adding the remainder of the series on #tbr list.

Another great start to a series by Jeff Lemire. This has a bit of a dystopian theme where humans have destroyed the world and children are being born as mutants(part human, part animal). It's delightfully strange. 😁

Oldschool_millenial It's a good series. Enjoy! 5y

So, I‘ve read the entire Sweet Tooth series today. I‘ve got all the feels. Such a great series. If you haven‘t read it yet, I recommend you give it a try. But have some tissues handy. You‘ll need them.

I‘ve also made a pretty good dent in my #24in48 readathon hours so I think I may call it a night and start up again after some 😴 💤

Reggie This was epic. I loved the Inuit origin story in the third book. 6y

I liked it. I did not love the art. Usually I stop reading of I don't like the art. The story got me though. It was a really good read with a satisfying end.

Wonderful and dark without losing its sense of the fantastic.
