It‘s so hard to write a story inside the larger mythology of superhero stories, and have it be fresh & new, but also not twist the existing story to far out of line. A very tough needle to thread, but this YA outing for the legendary Wonder Woman manages it beautifully, hinting at all the things we love about her legend, while keeping it fresh & fun for a young reader. I really enjoyed this early adventure.

#DuneBuddyRead. How‘s it going? I‘m just finishing up Part I today myself, but I‘m completely sucked into this story already! It wasn‘t at all what I was expecting. I was expecting something drier (no pun intended) considering what I‘ve heard of the strong religious/mythology aspects of the story, but I haven‘t found that a hurtle at all, just great story telling & world building. How are you making out? Enjoying or not? Is it what you expected?

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I started last night, LOL! I‘m almost at the end of Part I, It goes fast, and I‘m going to have a hard time putting it down after I finish Part I. 7y

Scurvygirl I have been busy, but I cleared my schedule this weekend to catch up and get ahead on all my read a longs! I am enjoying it a lot though. I think the best part is reading the characters in the parts from the movies. It‘s a great visualization. 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Scurvygirl I did the same, catch-up on this one, and then Wonder Woman that should have been finished in February for the #GirlPowerBuddyRead and then catch-up with the #ShakespeareReadAlong. Luckily all are pretty engaging reading, which always makes them go quicker for me. Then next week and weekend I want to catch-up with the Pratchett group #PratchettPosse 7y

TK-421 Dune is a reread for me (one of my all-time fave books) but it's been so long since I last read it that I was a little worried it wouldn't have the same magic. Well, it's still got it! I love the characters, the world-building & Herbert's prose still sings to me. I wasn't able to keep to the schedule, I'm afraid... I tore through Dune Messiah & now I'm reading Children of Dune! It sounds like everyone is enjoying it too & that makes me giddy! 7y

TK-421 @Scurvygirl I was obsessed with the movie before I realized it was based on a book, so I often visualize the characters as they were in the movies too! I've also had the soundtrack playing over & over in my head lol 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m not quite to page 100. I love it but have been busy and the print in the paperback is so tiny. I‘m an old lady to say that, but it means I can only read it at certain times. 7y

GarthRanzz I finished up the first section/book on Thursday night. Just as good as I remember it being 35+ years ago when I first read it. It stands the test of time, for me. I was surprised how quickly I was sucked back into the story. Can‘t wait to dig into the second book later tonight. 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @laundry_piles I felt that way in the beginning, but by the time they arrived at their new home, with all the warnings, prophesies, and court intrigues I was invested. I love that the intro to each section is written in the future looking back at this time, and by the daughter of the current Padishah Emperor...which must mean BIG changes as the prophecy unfurls. 7y

EricaReads I‘m only about 10% in, but will try to catch up on my “weekend” (Monday and Tuesday). I‘m enjoying it so far and it‘s also lighter than I expected, but I‘ve had library books I needed to finish before my loans were up. 7y

InLibrisVeritas I think I'm with @laundry_piles on this one. It's interesting but I'm not invested. It has some really interesting politics and world building happening but I'm just not feeling the connection yet. I have hope though! 7y

InLibrisVeritas Okay, so I finally finished part one and I'm liking it much more than before. It really picks up towards the end of that section and becomes more interesting. I don't know that I'm overly invested on the characters but I definitely need to know what happens! 7y

DivineDiana I am enjoying the story and the characters. Have created lists with descriptions to help me learn the strange names and places. Unfortunately, so many other book commitments are getting in the way. On pg. 130. (edited) 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @DivineDiana I completely understand that, I definitely over-committed this month too. But take your time, get to it when you can. I‘ve been trying to squeeze in at 2 hours of reading time everyday...sometimes it works, some days it‘s a complete fail. I‘m behind on a few of my reading commitments, but it‘s going better than I thought overall. It helps that March has been a rainy/snowy indoor month here so far. 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @DivineDiana My copies of Dune have a terminology glossary in the back. It helps a lot since Herbert doesn‘t always explain much. CareBear I LOVED it! It started a little slow for me but definitely picked up! I saw the movie and it felt very much like that...but I loved the movie, so that wasn‘t a problem! I haven‘t read the comics but I thought Bardugo did a great job with the girl power theme. 7y

LoverofLit I really loved it. I thought it was sweet, strong in the girl relationships department, had a good moral message, and ended well. I thought there were some great quotes too! I'll put the only thing I didn't like in a separate "spoiler" comment so I don't ruin anything for anyone! 7y

LoverofLit I was NOT a fan of the romantic thread between Wonder Woman and the villain brother, though maybe as she IS a teenage girl who's never had experience with males before I'm giving her too much credit. I just don't think she would have allowed herself to be so clouded by that pompous ass when she knew how noble and important her mission was. 7y

sammisho I really loved this book! I am a life long fan of WW, so not sure I could have disliked it! I loved the importance of girl friendships. I do think the first half was slow, but it really picked up the second half. 7y

sammisho @LoverofLit I think it was really realistic that her judgment was clouded by him. And it wasn't just because he was a hot guy. Diana trusted him because she trusted everyone. That was part of her nature. She was baffled by Alia being dishonest too, with the phone, ect... She thought Jason was on their side, I think her attraction to him was aecomdary 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @jpmcwisemorgan I agree, the Library list was long, so I bought the hardcover at BAM when they had their 20% off sale. So I got a deal, but still paid way more than $1.99. And I‘m the same, ebooks I read everywhere, my hardcover‘s only get a few chapters read at night before bed... I just can‘t lug them around everywhere anymore. 7y

Daisey I really enjoyed the book, and although the first part was slower, I thought it was important to clearly develop the world of the story. I also agree with the comments @sammisho made about Diana's confusion with deceit in humans. 7y

melrailey I loved it. I enjoyed getting to see a younger Diana face a “test” and really none of the Amazons know about it. I liked the romance part ok because it was Diana learning to deal with outside people and guys and it kinda helped her learn that not all people can be trusted. I would love a sequel! 7y

sammisho @melrailey I didn't feel like the romance part was a main focus, which was refreshing. It was used more as a way to show how Diana was so naive and inexperienced in the World of Man, despite all her power. 7y

All the confusion and both accidental and intentional wit on her part was amazing. There were also some amazing quotes (which I posted) in the book which is always a plus in my book (haha). 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I week late, but I finished it and enjoyed it, and agree with everyone above. I didn‘t see the twist coming, but I also didn‘t trust him from the beginning, so it wasn‘t as shocking for me. My favorite parts were all the Girl Power conversations, Diana‘s comments to the assumptions of men on the subway, the men at the gala, to the villain. And the great girl friendships that definitely passed the Bechdel test, so A++ there for young readers. 7y

This was a really fun read! I liked the combination of superhero story and mythology, with such a focus on the strengths and decisions of the female characters. The bookmark seemed an appropriate match for this story.
