Help Littens! This is the reading list for my son‘s summer class (he‘s 14). He has to choose one...I‘ve only read #All the Light We Cannot See and liked it but I‘m thinking he may not love it. What do you recommend from this list? He loves history but typically reads fantasy. He‘s a strong reader so no worry there. I‘ve been wanting to read #Night so debated that one and reading it together. Also considering #Persepolis. Any other votes? Thanks!

Bradleygirl HMMM - i'm not the best to ask since i haven't read them all, but. I can *highly* recommend Maus, as something both easy to read (a graphic novel/comic) and entirely immersive, about the Holocaust. Like. I wouldn't honestly give it to a 14-year-old (it was in my freshman college class) but, it's very very good. Also a true story, which may have some weight. 5y

LibrarianRyan I would probably suggest Code Name Verity as my #1 choice and then Orphan monster spy as my second. Both graphic novels are excellent but may be a bit of a bore to a 14 year old. I love Maus and the story it tells, but it's a son telling you they story of his father while also dealing with his father aging. 5y

wordslinger42 Both Maus and Night are extremely good (though, I have to admit, seem a bit much for that age. I didn't read either until I was in college). I'm not familiar with the others, so I can't help with those! 5y

TEArificbooks I loved All the Light You Cannot See. As it is about a blind kid his age he may like it. Guernsy is excellent about how a group of people formed a book club to help them get through the war while their island was occupied by Germans. It is written all in letters from the characters to each other which makes it a quick read. And it is a movie on Netflix. 5y

TEArificbooks Salt to the Sea is a fantastic YA novel about 3 kids in Germany during WW2. They are fleeing the country as soon as it is clear Germany lost. And it ends with the worse maritime disaster in history - worse than the Titanic. You don‘t here about it in history class because it was the Germans boats. There is lots of suspense as they flee. He may like it. 5y

Bookzombie I second @LibrarianRyan on Code Name Verity. I haven‘t read Salt to the Sea yet, but I read another by that author and suspect Salt would be a good choice too. 5y
