All Her Little Secrets: A Novel | Wanda M. Morris
30 posts | 21 read | 21 to read
In this fast-paced thriller, Wanda M. Morris crafts a twisty mystery about a black lawyer who gets in over her head after the sudden death of her boss. A debut perfect for fans of Attica Locke, Alyssa Cole, Harlan Coben, and Celeste Ng, with shades of How to Get Away with Murder and John Grishams The Firm. Everyone has something to hide... Ellice Littlejohn seemingly has it all: an Ivy League law degree, a well-paying job as a corporate attorney in midtown Atlanta, great friends, and a for fun relationship with a rich, charming executiveher white boss, Michael. But everything changes one cold January morning when Ellice goes to meet Michael and finds him dead with a gunshot to his head. And then she walks away like nothing has happened. Why? Ellice has been keeping a cache of dark secrets, including a small-town past and a kid brother whos spent time on the other side of the law. She cant be thrust into the spotlightagain. But instead of grieving this tragedy, people are gossiping, the police are getting suspicious, and Ellice, the companys lone black attorney, is promoted to replace Michael. While the opportunity is a dream-come-true, Ellice just cant shake the feeling that something is off. When she uncovers shady dealings inside the company, Ellice is trapped in an impossible ethical and moral dilemma. Suddenly, Ellices past and present lives collide as she launches into a pulse-pounding race to protect the brother she tried to save years ago and stop a conspiracy far more sinister than she could have ever imagined

This has a great opening scene. Though it slows down a little after that, I stayed interested in what exactly were all the secrets (from the past and present). It‘s a good thriller that reminded me of classic Grisham. I‘m excited to read the second book, which features the backstory of one of this one‘s characters. The audiobook narrator is great.

Legal thriller. So good for me, couldn‘t put it down. Ellice Littlejohn a successful black female attorney working for a big firm one day went to an early meeting but found her boss dead. Instead of calling the police, she ran away. Why? At that moment we will start to know all her little secrets, “mistakes didn‘t make you a bad person. They made you human” (Said Vera, a character I loved). This is a debut novel but I will follow this author. 4⭐️

Alfoster I liked this one too!❤️👏 3y
Gissy In this novel we will see racism, prejudice against black persons but Ellice sees herself as “a fighter”. “Black girls fight all the time...I was a fighting Black woman...” loved it!

Ellice‘s boss, with whom she‘s having an affair, is found dead at the office and she‘s suddenly catapulted into his job in the executive suite. Very quickly, she finds herself steamrolled by the racist white men running the place and she suspects something very bad is happening. I really liked this thriller. It‘s a great story wrapped up in the realities of being a black woman in a high powered position in a white man‘s world.

@TheAromaofBooks I did it! This is my #bookspin square 8. Woo!
This was a good thriller. Ellice is a successful attorney in Georgia. She is one of the singular Black employees in the company. When her boss suspiciously dies in his office, Ellice is fast-tracked into the General Counsel position for the company. This promotion comes with a cost. Secrets of her past begin to surface & threaten to ruin Ellice or cost her everything she loves. ⭐⭐⭐✨

#NYWD22 book #3 this is a soft pick for me. Ellie Littlejohn has climbed the corporate ladder dragging her secrets behind her. She‘s the only Black woman on the executive floor and she‘s only there because her boss (and lover) is found dead. I think a rather pedestrian mystery is elevated by Morris‘s observations about race and misogyny.

It took me a while to get into this thriller, but once I was in, I was committed. I think it was a good debut. Ellice Littlejohn is a well crafted, imperfect, sympathetic character.

This is a fun thriller featuring a corporate attorney with some secrets in her past...so when she finds her boss and lover dead from a gunshot wound in his office she walks away. The murder, the secrets, the corporation and some bad 'fear' based decisions all combine to unravel the good life she has created. This is a debut novel and I will be watching for more from this author. I gave it 4/5 stars and will be recommending it to friends.
