I forgot to post yesterday!

Think The Mummy and Road to El Dorado had a baby! This was a fun treasure hunt novel with a plucky female protagonist, the ruggedly handsome mapmaker who helps her, and a hidden city with untold treasures.

A re-read for me, but perfectly timed for when it‘s cold and the wind is howling. This is the book that started my love affair with high altitude climbing stories and it still holds up almost 30 years after publication.

The story of Endurance is truly inspiring, highlighting resilience, courage, and the vital role of leadership in survival. However, the writing style didn‘t work for me. The heavy focus on technical details about sailing and weather felt repetitive and slowed the pace, making it hard to stay engaged. While the message is powerful, the execution made it a challenging read.

The sequel to Cascade Failure was my favorite book of July. The crew of the Ambit is forced to work with their worst enemy to save the life of one of their family members.

Cheesey action movie vibes.
I loved it.
Was thrown for a loop by the zombies though.

Keeps your attention the whole time. Love the cliff hangers.
Very well written.

Overall I liked this historical fiction from the point of view of a girl who stows away on the Titanic, but there were a few issues for me as a reader. Hazel sneaks onto the ship and then makes herself way too visible, including spending time in the first class areas. She asks specific questions that provide lots of clear information about the flaws/mistakes that led to the catastrophe, and of course it all works out well for her in the end.

Daisey It was all just a bit too perfect for me. At the same time, it is an interesting story of the different types of people on the Titanic and the events as they occurred.

@karisimo saw this shared by @Eggs #MiddleGradeMonday and it was a lot of fun!
I absolutely LOVED the tagged book, and a birthday gift that one of the protagonists gets in this book catalyses the whole adventure.

Karisimo That‘s perfect! Thanks for sharing!! 2w
