Tarzan the Untamed | EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS

Skipping Jungle Tales for now since it‘s prequel short stories.

Just got to get through this one to get to my Tarzan the Terrible reread!

Bookwomble Jungle Tales has some good stories about Tarzan's youth with the mangani, but is incredibly racist even by ERB's standards. 2d
snapsnarlgrowl Yeah, when I first found the books as a kid I got The Beasts of Tarzan and Tarzan the Terrible at a yard sale. I read Terrible first and loved it, then read Beasts and hated when he was interacting with other people. In retrospect, I didn‘t have the context or vocabulary to handle the racism. Now I‘m a bit scared of rereading Terrible because I fear the lemur-people are just more racism but with prehensile tails. 2d

Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar | EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS

Tarzan and Jane are in their early(?) forties in this book. Jane is perfectly willing to shoot at invaders, but now she‘s escaped one kidnapper and has been kidnapped by an ape.

Tarzan thinks she smells vaguely familiar but apparently his amnesia comes with ape ADHD and he keeps getting distracted. You can tell it was originally published as a serial from the chaotic plot and constant cliffhangers, but this one definitely hits the absurd.

Pickpick

Look who finished a book

I‘ve been sick and obsessing about Disney Dreamlight Valley so this has been a long time coming.

Rise of the World Eater is the 3rd and final installment of the Frostheart series and I thought it was a good end to the series.

This was one of January‘s #bookspin #doublespin pick but I can‘t remember which.

ATOM: The Beginning Volume 1 | Osamu Tezuka, Masami Yuuki

Mehso-so

I was a bit underwhelmed with this one. Lots of action but the art seems rather primitive to be honest.

Only a little more research: This was the seed of Tezuka‘s better known Astro Boy, back to 1952.

“Astro Boy is considered one of the most important anime & manga series of because it was a pioneer in the industry…while also being the first Japanese animated series…effectively introducing anime to Western audiences.”

How can I resist a cheesy amnesia plot?

KCofKaysville @snapsnarlgrowl I loved it when I was about 12! Cheesy plots and all. 6d
snapsnarlgrowl Right?! I got The Beasts of Tarzan and Tarzan the Terrible when I was about 10 years old. I‘ve been trying to start at the beginning and work my way back to Tarzan the Terrible, carnivorous triceratops and all! 5d

I was excited to see Michael Crichton had a pirate book because I love listening to his audiobooks when I walk. Unfortunately this one didn‘t gel with me. Oh well. #BookedInTime @Cuilin

RamsFan1963 This was published after Crichton passed away, and eventhough it has his name on it, it didn't feel like one of his books to me, it was too short and underdeveloped. It feels like someone to his notes or maybe an outline and "ghost" wrote the rest. 1w
Bookwormjillk @RamsFan1963 ohhhh that makes a lot of sense 1w
Cuilin Oh that‘s disappointing. 1w

Pickpick

A quick easy YA read for #bookedintime. Pirates follows the daughter of a Bristol merchant as she learns the reality of where her wealth is come from & how tenuous her circumstances as a young woman are. enjoyed learning about something new.Pirates! Pirate honour! Whilst well researched it has a simplistic tone to it The love story seemed insta & there was a sense that Nancy was telling minerva‘s story as much as her own. @Cuilin

Cuilin Sounds fabulous. 🏴‍☠️ ✔️🎉 2w

Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon must battle an army of genetically engineered mercenaries to stop a hypersonic missile attack in this explosive new adventure in the #1 New York Times bestselling series. This was a fast-paced exciting read. I sometimes have trouble with the weaponry but I seem to have made it through with this one.

EadieB If you like action-packed thrillers, then you will love this book. Looking forward to the next installment. 2w
