When Gwendolyn Blooms father vanishes, she sets off on a journey she never bargained for. Traveling under a new identity in a world of assassins, spies, and criminal masterminds, she uncovers a disturbing truth. To bring her father back alive, she must become every bit as cruel as the men holding him captive. Taken meets The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Bourne Identity in this action-packed debut thriller (optioned for film by Jerry Bruckheimer) from Scott Bergstrom.

Here‘s my review for a book I started in October. I won a physical copy of this book from Book Riot in 2017 and I finally got around to reading it. I‘m counting this book for 2 reading challenges. This is a YA Spy Thriller so I consider it to be a Genre Hybrid and I‘m secretly scared of this book because of the book title.

Today, I‘m sharing my reading progress for an audiobook I started in October. I‘m enjoying it so far. This book has been compared to the movies Taken and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I‘ve seen Taken but I haven‘t seen The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I can see how it is similar to Taken because in the movie, a man is looking for his missing daughter. In this book, a girl is looking for her missing dad.

Today, I‘m sharing my reading progress for a book I had on my Sept TBR. I started listening to this book in Oct and I will finish it this month. So far, I‘m enjoying it. There‘s a sequel to this book but I don‘t know if I want to read it or not. If I end up liking this book then maybe I will read it. I have the Audible audiobook for the sequel in case I want to read it.

4 stars. This wasn't a suspense read but an interesting one. A teen girl heads out into the world to find her father that's been kidnapped.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Gwen is on her way home after being suspended from school. Her father, a U.S. diplomat, is suddenly kidnapped, and the government leaves Gwen no choice but to track him down herself. Travelling in Europe, following every lead, infiltrating the slums of Paris, the nightlife of Berlin, and the biggest criminal family in Prague. Diving into this underworld of espionage, she needs to become crueler than the people who captured her father.

Holy. Crap. This book was so incredibly well written, everything about it was incredibly detailed, and the portrayal of the main character is so completely human that it‘s astounding. Bergstrom wrote an amazingly accurate depiction of a woman, and honestly, I‘m going to read the next book by him as soon as I possibly can.

I loved this one, a page-turner. My heart raced during certain parts-I love that. Some suspension of disbelief is required and yes there is some insta-love going on (nothing major), but I think the MC is a kickbutt female lead and presents some fun gray areas for readers to think about.

🎧 Audio narrated by Therese Plummer and is FANTASTIC

I'm sad that this book is controversial. It was really fun to read and I'm eager for the next installment.

"It feels awkward and too intimate." ???

I saw this prompt when it was shared by @LibrarianJen who gave credit to @BookishShelly and @BarbaraJean. My sentence made me laugh out loud because, I don't know, it might be a little too accurate sometimes ??‍♀️ I do know that the news is bananas lately and Irma is making me feel so many things. So this was fantastic fun today.

Thanks Litsy friends! You're always the best!

I felt like this was written so well, and that it was genuine! It didn't feel sugar coated like most authors do. If you enjoyed Taken (not Taken 2, which sucked), then you'll LOVE this reverse role read.

2017 READS | 10 | the cruelty by scott bergstrom | #bookdivinerreads

This was one of my least favourite reads of the year. The characters were not well-written, the plot was boring and I just couldn't really find anything to enjoy about it 😯

Last photo for the #LitsyMeetUp and I just had to show the #BookStacker actually being used! ❤️ I don't think I have ever had such a huge #bookhaul from one day. 4 book stores, 46 books, 1 magazine, and 3 bookmarks later along with a new tote and some stickies! Making new friends and hanging with some old ones 😊❤️😘 Thank you Ladies for making it SUCH a memorable day and a great experience before I move!

DivineDiana Sounds like a heavenly day! Congratulations on your new purchases and new friends! 8y

Scott Bergstrom's controversial YA thriller (the first in a series) is a slickly written affair with plenty of action that reads like JASON BOURNE meets TAKEN but for all the author's desire to produce a more "morally complicated" type of fiction, he doesn't push any new boundaries here and the snide swipes at YA dystopia are cheap and needless.

Linear I was thinking that aswell, the taken part 7y

I am loving this book so far. Easy to pick up and out down, yet whenever I do set it down, I want to pick it right back up!
