I promise that I read more than serial mystery series. 😉 But that's what has been keeping my attention during the COVID craziness. I love Bess Crawford. This wasn't my favorite of the series, but I'll definitely continue.

Hoping to finish the Bess Crawford series (currently reading the tagged book), and then get to a couple random titles that have been languishing on the TBR far too long. Also may read a few Kindle books as well.
I've clocked a little over 5hrs for #24B4Monday, which is pretty solid considering what a busy weekend it has been!

This might be my favorite Bess Crawford that doesn't take place at the Front. When Bess hears an injured man in a French uniform speak German, she doesn't know what to think. Is he a spy? And how is he involved in a set of old murders? It'll take all Bess's ingenuity to find out!
Returned it before I took a picture. This wasn't my favorite installment as it was missing some of the core characters that I've come to expect. While these books are very good they're also pretty similar in format which may not have been so evident to me if I'd read them in actual time versus having just discovered them; & with WWI starting to wind its way down I wonder what's on the horizon for Bess
Looking forward to what she gets up to next.
Another solid entry in the series. I did however miss her parents and Simon in this one. She was pretty much on her own (except for the American, Captain Barkley) in Paris solving basically two mysteries this time...a spy caper and an 18-year-old multiple murder case. My, that Bess is a very busy girl! 😉 I‘m on the library waitlist for the current one...looking forward to it! 4/5 ⭐️
Excited for the 8th installment of the Bess Crawford mysteries and intrigued by this title and cover!
Thank heaven for libraries! ❤️😊
Picked this one up at ALA last year. While I loved the concept - a WWI battlefield nurse who solves mysteries - I had trouble getting into the book. The mystery in this particular book didn't really work for me. Maybe I'd like some of the other books in this series better. :(
I just won this over on WilliamMorrow's Litsy page. Yaaaay!!
If you love mysteries and historical fiction, or tv shows like Downton Abbey, you‘ve got to get into the Nurse Bess Crawford series! THE SHATTERED TREE is on sale now. WWI nurse Bess Crawford goes to dangerous lengths to investigate a wounded soldier‘s background—and uncover his true loyalties—in this thrilling and atmospheric entry. Comment & add this book to your TBR for a chance to win a paperback copy! We‘re giving away 5 copies on 4/27. 🙌🏼
Enjoyed more than I expected. Plot was tighter than the last few in the series.
Taking a much need Dombey and Son break 700 pages in. Todd's Bess Crawford series is a bit more contrived and not as satisfying as the Ian Rutledge mystery, but it doesn't keep me from reading them.
I feel like I read a lot.... but I bought a lot of books.... I am not allowed in a bookstore in October.
Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Overall, I thought it was just so so.
