I love the Fable graphic novels. They remind me so much of the Once Upon a Time tv show.

An entertaining romp through modern fairy tales. A villain, known as The Adversary, exiled the fairy tale characters into our world. In this volume, it looks like someone or something has killed Rose Red. Bigby, the Big Bad Wolf, is investigating the case. The prose and illustrations blend seamlessly together. 4.5 stars

Day 155.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
Danielle! OMG! This is amazing! 🎃 First everything was wrapped with awesome Halloween wrapping paper. I took a photo of it all wrapped but then I could barely get everything in one photo.
I absolutely love my #HHS package. 🧡🖤🧡🖤 I‘m starting on Fables now while eating some candy corn. I‘m already using this epic bat book sleeve.🦇 And I‘ll wear the socks tomorrow. 🧛🏻♀️
Thank you! 🎃🖤🦇🧡👻🖤 😘

I just received this WONDROUS PRE-BIRTHDAY package today from the marvelous @DaveGreen7777 !!! 🎉🎉🎉 I'm SO excited for the amazing books and graphic novels! I'm starting Fables tonight! Fairytales are my jam! 😁 There were also two beyond incredible Star Trek gifts but I already tucked them away for safekeeping! 😄
Thank you SO SO SO much, Dave! 💕📚
This was awesome; I‘m excited to read the next volumes. A modern take on characters from fairy tales living in exile in NYC from their homeland because of the invading Adversary. Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf (in human form), Jack (of Beanstalk fame), Bluebeard, and Rose Red are central characters in this one. Murder mystery vibe.
What happens when fairy tale characters escape from their world into ours? More fun than I thought, with a murder to be solved and need to keep from the real world. Quirky and thorny relationships, but very predictable. Liked the artwork, and it‘s nice for a break or palate cleanser. Won‘t be following the whole series.
I bought this after I saw high praise for it from a few people but the cover initially turned me off so I put it on my shelf for a few years. However, I ended up enjoying it. All of our favorite fairy tale characters are in exile in New York, living hidden lives while they long to return to their magical lands. This first volume revolves around a crime.

Not as immediately nor as thoroughly hooked by this as I was by Saga but it is definitely intriguing. It reminded me a little of the TV series Once Upon A Time which I loved (back when I still watched TV.) The artwork is gritty and kinda retro looking (don't know a real lot about this genre.) The relationship between Snow White and the Wolf is one I'm keen to follow.
I enjoyed this volume collecting the first five issues. It is a very interesting concept and loved seeing how the fairytale characters were living in our world. I enjoyed the detective story and can't wait to see how this series plays out.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
1. The whole series of Fables

This was okay; just not for me. A lot of people would tell me to lighten up, but there were some small snags in the investigation that I just couldn't suspend my disbelief for.
I mean, I have no problem believing the premise of all these characters from fables finding themselves in our would, but the way they conducted a murder investigation was pretty silly. Again, it's just not for me.
Finished reading Vol.1 of Fables (issues 1-5) the other day. I‘m a sucker for fairytales and retellings, it‘s always a joy to read different takes on the classics. The first vol had a good opening tale and instantly captured me, from recognizing the fairytale characters to actually enjoying the detective story involved, definitely one I would recommend to others i can tell it‘s going to be enjoyable.

I‘m obsessed with fairy tales and especially love the fairy tale characters living in our world aspect. I‘ve been meaning to read this forever and it did not disappoint. Ready to start on volume 2 👍
So I‘m participating in this passport to CT libraries. First stop at a library not my own and look what treasures I found!!! My own library has ZERO adult graphic novels; this one has a whole section! Definitely will be going back! #litsyloveslibraries
On recommendation from the local comic store, I picked up Fables Vol 1 & 2. Not bad story lines, the art is pretty good but not really a replacement for Saga. They are similar to Once Upon A Time but better. #2018christyread #hookedongraphics
Enjoyed this much more than I expected, a good detective story. Thanks to Litsy, I learned about Libby.
This was an interesting graphic novel. Fairy tale characters are living in New York and keeping their true identities under wraps. There were some great characterizations and the story was good. I am not sure if I will continue this series, but I am glad I read this one.
I really enjoyed this. I am a sucker for fractured/twisted fairy tales & this definitely delivered. I can't wait to pick up the next volume.
I think this may have been the first graphic novel/comics I can say I have thoroughly enjoyed in many years. The story line is fabulous, the sarcasm/wit well done and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous!
Loved the prequel short story included in the back of the graphic novel! And these fabulous black and white illustrations!
So much fun! Such gorgeous illustrations! Can‘t wait to read the next volume!
Much sarcasm and some absolutely breathtaking illustrations.
Prince Charming is a serial womanizer and #ratbastard if I ever saw one. The referred to incident was just the beginning! #speechbubblechallenge #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon
Rose Red‘s apartment/Bigby‘s crime scene is #bloodydisgusting ! #speechbubblechallenge #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon
Bluebeard and The Adversary are both #villainous characters in different ways. #speechbubblechallenge #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon
Ooh, #sassattack ! I‘m finding lots of panels for the #speechbubblechallenge so I‘ll try not to go too crazy. I love this gn so much already!!! #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon
It was a quick and 'light' read. I loved the characterization of these old characters. I loved them when I was small and i loved them even more now that I'm older. :)
Finally started this and love it so far! Reimagined fairy tales are SO in my wheelhouse!
Finally got this in the mail a few days ago. Gonna try my hand at graphic novels. I'm mad at the post office for rolling it up and shoving it in the PO Box. 😤
I could have picked just one short book, but comics and graphic novels are short and here are just some of mine! Day 29 - Short Books. #readathon #30daysofreadathon
The result of a very successful shopping trip today! Volumes 1-6 at an amazing price!
Interesting concept. I enjoyed that the writer decided to make these classic fairy tales a whole new adventure. He thought completely outside the box and I'm curious to see where it goes to next.
Pinocchio is hating being 'a real boy' and I'm dying. This series is a damn trip so far.
This first graphic novel was so much fun! I can't wait to check out Volume 2!!

This book is way deeper than I gave it credit
Havin a drink and enjoying Fables Vol 1
So I read this once many years ago and retained almost all of it, which is surprising for my spotty memory. It's a really good introduction to a very interesting world, if a bit dry. There's a lot of talking for a comic book, particularly in the last issue. But the characters are interesting and it does keep you engaged. Definitely worth checking out.
I saw this series at my library and figured I'd give it a shot. I do adore fairytale retellings. It was definitely an interesting take and I've already got more volumes on hold at the library.
Book Mail!! I got the next volume of Rat Queens, and I decided to try out Fables!
