Lynn Painter - my favorite author!!! She is a master at chemistry and real, cravable dialogue. I wish I had a friendship like this. What a fun, creative story & super cute characters!!! Another win!

This was an impulse I grabbed off the shelf at work because of I had to read a book I hated (not even going to post about it) and wanted something light and fun. So, this absolutely worked for me in the way I needed.
Happily Never After makes you laugh, makes you think, and most of all makes you realized that certain ideals are not black and white. We are allowed to live, love, and lose but by our own definitions not those placed upon us.
Ok, no. The two characters didn‘t seem to have any actual connection beyond ‘you‘re hot and I‘m hot and I can‘t stop looking at your lips.‘ I feel like they didn‘t really know each other at all. Secondly, I cuss like a sailor but reading the F word as an adjective randomly in back to back paragraphs when it‘s really not necessary to the story is off putting. There were opportunities for the characters to develop, but I gave up at halfway.
#RomCom a bit #LoveAtFirstSight a bit #FriendsToLovers and a lot of not so #FakeDating (for the work-life-balance that gets them the promotion)
Liked the idea of their meet-cute: Max is the hired objector at Sophie's wedding.
Loved Sophie's flatmates. 😂😂

Memorable meet-cute! 👏👏👏
BANTOR 100% 👏👏👏
Satisfying friends to lovers 100% 👏👏👏
Superb elderly roommates/side characters 100% 👏👏👏
Could see this being a wonderful movie but would likely need to take out some over the top descriptive love scenes and tame them down a bit.
The chemistry between main characters was fantastic. The banter was funny. Snarky and breezy writing. It was not as perfect as Better than the Movies, but it was a good rom-com 😄
My parents and I visited my sisters family in Dresden over the #Easter weekend. I bought Happily Never After, my fourth Painter book, at the big Thalia store close to the Old Town. Unfortunately, I really prefer her YA novels. The younger characters just fit her writing better.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
My 2nd Painter novel, & unfortunately, her books aren‘t for me. I struggled w/ the lack of chemistry between the characters. I didn‘t feel their connection at all. While the plot could have made for some great moments (Sophie & Max are “professional” objectors at weddings), this played a minimal role in the book & the majority is spent w/ them ignoring their feelings or Sophie trying to rationalize falling in love as being something else.

Haven‘t been on Litsy in a while! And so behind on reviews. Picked this one up as soon as it came in the mail from #BOTM. Quick different type of romance story where they break up weddings together.
Sophie and Max have become friends and side-gig business partners in the most unexpected of ways. Both have people with expectations that each couples-up with someone. They don‘t need to go as far as fake-dating, fake we‘re-just-friends should suffice. … The story driving the romance is a hoot, and I do wish more of the story was given to that layer rather than Sophie and Max spending so much time in their own heads contemplating the other.
