This book was really too short to be fleshed out as well as it could have been. The premise was entertaining, though. Mara lands a job on a ghost hunting show. Things are going well until she meets Jo, and then things get really weird.

I wanted pure escapist entertainment today and this fit the bill. Mara feels like she‘s failing at life and decides to take up her successful cousin on a job working as a PA on his tv show. They show hauntings (or are they) at newly bought houses. But then some funny things start happening. I found this really satisfying and not so much scary as fun.

This was a fun cozy paranormal book. At less than 4 hours on audiobook, you can‘t go wrong with this spooky story. 4⭐️

Mara gets a job on a TV show renovating haunted homes, and as a PA, it's Mara's job to convince the homeowners' that their houses really are haunted. But over the summer, it seems like Mara isn't the only one doing the haunting.

This was a short, not particularly scary, ghost story. It has a fun premise, and was a quick read for me.

Would we call this cozy horror? Mara has always felt slightly apart from her family and without a solid plan for the future has just been drifting along… but then her cable show famous cousin gets her a job on his haunted house show… and things start to click into place - until the lines between fake haunting and real haunting blur. I did pick the twist, but I really enjoyed the flow on effect of it - something a little bit different!

This book was a low pick for me. The actual haunting doesn't start until about 1/2 way through. The idea behind the haunting was an interesting one. 3.5 stars.

⬗Another one of those short stories that confuses/leaves space for interpretation but I‘m mostly willing to go with it because it‘s trying to impart a profound message and maybe sometimes the confusion is a part of its charm.
⬗The narration by the full cast was great and made this an effortless listen.

Lighter than most haunting stories, this is a great little palate cleanser for your spooky season reads.

I loved this quick & fun ghost story! Mara‘s the youngest cousin & feels left out around her family & struggling to find her own passion, so when her oldest cousin offers her a job with his reality TV show that is part home reno & part ghost hunting, she jumps at the chance. The audio is really great & I couldn‘t stop listening to it! I loved it— a great spooky read with some unexpected turns to the storyline! Can‘t wait for more from the author!

My first (but not last) Sarah Pinsker! This is a leisurely paced ghost story novella that takes place on the set of a hokey reality TV series that is part historical home renovation and part haunted house investigation. I loved spending time with the protagonist Mara, a directionless 20something who feels like an outsider in her boisterous extended family. Sweet but spooky, with lovely empathetic character work and subtly clever turns of phrase.
