Last book I‘ll finish in 2023!! 🎉 Read 467 this year!!
If you enjoyed McCarthy‘s The Road, this is up your alley! In three acts you follow Magdala from an innocent child to a more complicated adult as she tries to make a pilgrimage through the desert to the sacred city of Las Vegas to see a saint‘s shrine in hopes it will heal her club foot. I liked that there were more characters, but it still got monotonous at points. Low pick. #aardvark
#ScarathlonPhotoChallenge Day 2: #Skeleton #Bones I need to finally get to this @AardvarkBookClub read! I love how the skeleton hand matches my spooky light up ones. #aardvark #aardvarkbookclub #scarathlon #batbrigade
The first section of this book had me close to bailing, as it‘s nothing but tragedy after tragedy. The world is interesting and I wanted to know more about it, but Magdala went through a lot!
The second section was my favorite, with a perspective shift and a new character, Third section was fast paced and ending was satisfying.
The #buddyread feature on StoryGraph kept me going- check it out if you can! Read with @Eyelit 💕👋. Lots of TWs!
For me, this dystopic/post-apocalyptic novel ending up being half baked. There are good ideas here, but not enough is explained about certain aspects, the mirroring is clunky, and one major character is inconsistent. I enjoyed reading much of this, so I do think this author has potential.
Y'all. I did not technically (or even not technically) need three more hardcovers, but it was really fun to open my first #AardvarkBookClub box today! And I comfort myself by telling myself that, if I read very carefully and don't use a slice of bacon as a bookmark (which I totally don't need to do because I have the #aardvark bookmarks), I can always gift these later.
I'm digging the cover of this month's #aardvarkbookclub choice. I switched from #botm to #aardvark for a few months. Definitely something for which I #blameitonlitsy 🤣🤣
🎧 LOVE dystopian novels.
Setting - maybe near future, Earth. Something has decimated the land. From the mutations, nuclear?
9 yo Magdala & her dad are evicted from their community. They‘re headed to Vegas to find a cure for her club foot which she feels makes her a burden. We experience 3 stages of her life.
Similarities to The Stand, The Road, Swan Song, a treacherous trek to salvation.
Gruesomeness happens but she perseveres.
