When her long lost cousin comes back to town just in time for the holidays, Lila Macapagal knows that big trouble can't be far behind in this new mystery by Mia P. Manansala, author of Arsenic and Adobo. It's Christmastime in Shady Palms, but things are far from jolly for Lila Macapagal. Sure, her new business, The Brew-ha Cafe, is looking to turn a profit in its first year. And yes, she's taken the first step in a new romance with her good friend, Jae Park. But her cousin Ronnie is back in town after ghosting the family fifteen years ago, claiming that his recent purchase of a local winery shows that he's back on his feet and ready to give back to the Shady Palms community. Tita Rosie is thrilled with the return of her prodigal son, but Lila knows that wherever Ronnie goes, trouble follows. She's soon proven right when Ronnie is accused of murder, and secrets and rumors surrounding her shady cousin and those involved with the winery start piling up. Now Lila has to put away years of resentment and distrust to prove her cousin's innocence. He may be a jerk, but he's still family. And there's no way her flesh and blood could actually be a murderer...right?

I loved this edition to the Tita Rosie‘s mysteries. It was great to get a more light-hearted and sweet version of the family again.

More of a cozy mystery set at Christmas than a Christmas-themed cozy mystery (if that makes sense), but still excellent! I love Lila and her huge supporting cast of family and friends.

Loved Arsenic&Adobo so much, I went for this one next. A trilogy about Lila Macapagal, a Tito Rosie kitchen mystery - love these characters!

Soft pick for me! Liked it better than the second one for sure though! I think maybe I‘m not the target for a cozy mystery. The description of food really gets in the way of the mystery for me. I did, however like the mystery and I‘ve always loved all the characters.

Low pick, I‘m sorry to say. Lila‘s cousin Ronnie makes a surprise return to town (true Prodigal Son style), only for one of his investors to turn up dead by poisoning.
There just wasn‘t enough personal growth here for any character (except maybe Tita Rosie and Det Park???) and Ronnie is leg. terrible - at one point he blames his mom for his dad abandoning them. He never really apologizes either.
But the recipes included look to be the best yet! ⬇️

Larkken Pic is from https://www.criminalelement.com/cooking-books-blackmail-bibingka-mia-p-manansala... who bakes the salabat snickerdoodle bars and I‘m in as cookie bars are one of my fav things to make (I‘ve no patience for normal cookies lol). I‘m sure the rest of the recipes will show up on the author‘s website soon! (edited) 2y
batsy Mmm snickerdoodle cookie bars! I too love a cookie bar and the texture that's a little soft and gooey in the middle pieces. 2y

1. Historical SF; NYC; near-future dystopian US; and the tagged which I‘m not exactly sure? But might be in a fictional small midwestern town 🤷🏻‍♀️ these are my current active reads at least lol
2. I don‘t know! I love getting a feel for new places I‘d never dreamed of before!
3. So many 🫣 Im a sucker for any lush fantasy world, tbh 🧌🦄🐉🏞️

I love this series! Thank you @FeatherV ! Shortly after her recalcitrant cousin Ronnie returns to town, one of his business partners is murdered. Ronnie, of course, is a suspect. Now Lila has to figure out who the real murderer is.

Thanks to a quick audiobook finish of my last read I can move on to my next #Bookopoly read. Thank goodness my roll landed on Library because I have a huge influx of these books right now. This one has been on my TBR since it came out and I‘m glad I was finally able to snag the audiobook from one of my new libraries.

Book 3 in this cozy mystery. I have such a hard time with series. I loved the first book. The second was ok. This one i liked as much as the first. So that made me 😊. Lila and her family seem to always be in the center of all the trouble in their small rown of Shady Palms. It's up to Lila to help solve yet another murder and help keep her family name clear. Id round up to 4 stars.

The food always captivates me more than the mystery in these books. I would love to try everything that is described and I like that recipes are included! The story itself is a bit forgettable. If you liked the first two in this diverse cozy mystery series, you will like this one! 🎧

Good addition to the series, but I was really annoyed with how judgy they were to Ronnie. Yes he screwed up, but give him a chance instead of assuming the worst. The mystery was fun a as always, loved all the f&b stuff!
