What if you had one year to save everything you loved? ONE PRINCESS. Merida of DunBroch needs a change. She loves her family--jovial King Fergus, proper Queen Elinor, the mischievous triplets-- and her peaceful kingdom. But she's frustrated by its sluggishness; each day, the same. Merida longs for adventure, purpose, challenge - maybe even, someday, love. TWO GODS. But the fiery Princess never expects her disquiet to manifest by way of Feradach, an uncanny supernatural being tasked with rooting out rot and stagnation, who appears in DunBroch on Christmas Eve with the intent to demolish the realm - and everyone within. Only the intervention of the Cailleach, an ancient entity of creation, gives Merida a shred of hope: convince her family to change within the year - or suffer the eternal consequences. THREE VOYAGES. Under the watchful eyes of the gods, Merida leads a series of epic journeys to kingdoms near and far in an attempt to inspire revolution within her family. But in her efforts to save those she loves from ruin, has Merida lost sight of the Clan member grown most stagnant of all - herself? FOUR SEASONS TO SAVE DUNBROCH - OR SEE IT DESTROYED, FOREVER.

I really enjoyed this story about Merida… it continues the movie storyline. I‘m guessing we‘re about 5 years into the future. We see the results of Merida‘s earlier wish to remain unwed, and the shift of the family dynamic from that moment. I liked seeing the individual personalities of the triplets, as well as meeting other members of the kingdom. The story was sweet and satisfying. Highly recommend to Brave fans!

It might be that I like Stiefvater so much, or that I don‘t usually read these YA Disney property books. But I really enjoyed this. It was much better than I thought it would be, better than it had any right being.

An enjoyable YA continuation of the beloved Disney movie Brave. I did feel like the pacing was a little slow throughout the whole book, but I enjoyed seeing Merida and her family develop and interact. I also did feel like the plot dragged a little, and I would have liked Merida fighting more like she does in the movie. The small romance was surprising and I liked it. The ending wraps most things up but there's room for a sequel.

I wish I had liked this one more than I did. The ending was beautiful, I absolutely loved the last few chapters and how everything came together. But, even though that ending was gorgeous, I found the rest of the book to be a little dull. The writing itself was great, I loved it. It was just the story I didn't care for. A shame, I really wanted this to be amazing.

This is a quiet little story that is appropriate for both middle grade and young adult. The real story is Merida‘s inner journey and her family‘s gradual shift. There is a lot of food for thought about taking risks, not falling into the trap of apathy. I recommend it to audiences of all ages that enjoy stories about loving and complicated families and hard headed Princesses. There is also a sweet slow-burn romance.
